Reading some comments here shows just how daft we have become as a people and how some brains run on reverse logic. Rather than commend a good initiative and offer suggestions on execution, the see no gooders will condemn the initiative in its entirety. Please tell, where are the okada riders sent packing recently or the molue drivers whose livehoods were taken away from them? Oh, they are armed robbers now, abi? Hundreds of jobs have been created through BRT scheme all over and more will be created. There will always be opportunities for the people who open their brains. 90% of okada riders went into Marwa riding and other businesses. The lazy ones are still running the risky business at least until the law catches them. If Ambo brings another scheme wise people will look for opportunities and not complain. Danfo is not the best thing for us. The drivers and conductors are not the best, abeg lets start from somewhete to sanitize the system. If you like danfo so much, please ride it to your village and keep it there. |

Fashola campaigned by giving okada riders free helmet.. when he became gov, he banned them. Ambode.. I remember his theme song.. Ambo ooo Ambo popularly advertised with danfo bus.. now he is about to dump them.. Click like if you feel these govt is a use and dump govt. Click share if you think government truly think of the massess in their decision making. For the record those in Ikorodu don't drive because the road that would have been expanded was used to create lawn for BRT My car is more convenient than a public bus that I will have to wait on a queue for close to an hour on a Monday morning to get a standing position and stand all true Lagos. It is cheaper no doubt. |

You are a wise man. Well said. But Lagos is becoming superior to every other state. I think its education level of the Lagos state Governors, and a total willingness to work.It really started with Fashola.Indeed That man and now i think Ambode are the people who can make this country a great place if they become President.Fashola had a reputation of inspecting projects in person(disguised). Thats the kind of rigidity we need if we are ever to see true change. Plus a total commitment to improving the state of the State from where they met it.Ambode is thinking outside the box, and thats how Governors think outside nigeria. They always have a goal to make their states world class.God bless Fashola and God bless Ambode. 12inches1:

Ambode is not removing pickup vans from the roads. There will be alernatives for sure.Real change must come with a few adjustments. Its only in nigeria danfoes are used to move tomatoes around. eRex: |

The problem with Lagos and all cities in Nigeria is that we never planned for them from the beginning. No matter what you do now the possibility of Lagos or any other Nigerian city getting to the standard of western nations is close to zero. Unfortunately I still see new urban areas springing up in many areas without adequate planning. No plan for real drainage system, road network, sanitation, construction, transportation etc and these are areas that would become big cities 40 years from now. By the time we get to that time, we would have already lost it. Cities are supposed to be planned to project decades in future taking into account the economics, population, technology etc of the future. LASG should try as much as they can to see how they can salvage the city but in reality, I don't really see Lagos looking like the cities I see abroad. I think we lost it 40 or 50 years ago. |

I don't think Ambode knows what he's up against here. Those Yellow buses and cabs are the symbol of identity of Lagos. You don't face them out, you upgrade them and make sure only modest people engage in the business. Moreover, these buses have Union that turns in billions for government (or maybe some corrupt politicians) yearly Those yellow buses wit black stripes are synonymous to Lagos transport system as depicted in X-men Civil War |

Went throuqh the comments... a lot of people with varyinq opinions, fine! Anyways those of u commentinq "Yh qood idea", "carry on" and so on. Well it's obvious you people don't know what it's like if that is the only means of livelihood in ur household. It's throuqh it that a friend's Pman manaqes to manaqe his household. His momcy herself makes huqe use of danfos in conveyinq her tomatoes from mile 12 to home after purchase. And now you think dad who's a commercial bus driver or mum who uses commercial bus on few days interval basis will be happy with such policy?... you know how many families that'll become affected? Does he know how many families are beings fed through this means? Will he be able to employ them all?...what a clueless innovation!... Pls let him do something else like light; he could make Laqos a truly worthy Meqa city by facilitatinq cost of accomodation, let him use the money he intended to buy new buses with, to build houses and sell just like jakande did-and see whether Laqos will not leapfroq into a Meqa City. The policy will without any dubiety render a lot of people jobless, and you are talkinq of Meqa City - Fine, you could have that Meqa City, but what's the point when the level of already hiqh unemployment is on the boost? It's like a Ranqe Rover body car with Golf 2 enqine. Many of those Meqa Cities have enouqh employment level-one of why they are referred to as "Meqa cities." However, the system could be modified, upqraded and made seem better, that's possible and achievable. It could be made modest. There's a room for improvement. Let everythinq be clear from the FRSC, LASTMA, Police ET AL to stop collectinq bribes and arrest anyone culpable. More other thinqs could be done to upqrade the system rather than scrapinq it. |

This man want to increase armed robbery for Lagos. Has he forgotten that the keke and danfo drivers are area men and boys in Lagos. If they loose their driving and conductor jobs, there will be high rate of armed robbery in Lagos. Except he has a plan for them. It is either when he buys the new buses he has to invite them to apply for the position drivers or increase police surveillance and build additional prisons to accommodate these guys because they must steal. |

blackaxe78:Bros, Once the initiative is executed, it is going to be an all inclusive. First off, the "conventional" motor-parks where their is "chairman" and "Agbero" will be replaced with an organised, private sector-driven bus parks. "Agbero" would be replaced with stewards whose "daily collection" (and I doubt if that will still exist) will be to private company. Secondly, we need able bodied men like the Agberos to go into skill acquisition and training so that they be useful in factories as Lagos is fast become a hub of production factories |

yedidiah:Even tho I am not in government, some of my suggestion will be 1. Hopefully professionals are engaged to manage the change process. For example the change could be phased, say remove them from Ikorodu road (Ikorodu Round-about-CMS route) after 6 months do same in other defined route 2. The current Danfo Drivers, just like was done in the BRT scheme will be asked to organise themselves into a collective (Union) and float a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). This SPV will then be one of the operators of the scheme. So the Danfo drivers still get to keep their jobs. The conductors and Agberos could be employed as Ticketing officers, Park control officers and other ancillary services. 3. I think this service will not only eradicate agberos, it will show how more money can be made in a more effective and efficient Transportation Business. Other states will soon come and replicate it |

ruudboie:I thought the Yellow buses gave Lagos its Transportation Identity, have watched many Movies and it was these same yellow buses that they use to depict Lagos,, anyways the state govt. should ensure adequate employment for those guys before putting them out of jobs, we don't want more thieves and kidnappers on our hands. |
| Re: Ambode Insists On Removing Yellow Buses (Danfo) From Lagos Roads by mapet: 1:33pm On Feb 07, 2017 |
12inches1:...and how are you sure this is not a transition from your definition of short range to long range? Danfos and Okadas cannot "standardise" thier operations as they are not set out to. Okada for starters is not meant to be a means of mass transit in all true sense, Danfo business is becoming a hydra-headed monster (Agbero, Fights and Skirmishes over park ownership, Political thugs and stuffs).....nutshell we need to decide if we want to evolve or stay same. Look at what happened to the "Molue" business.... they were accommodated in the BRT scheme, they could not maintain the standard despite having Ecobank assist with the scheme, hence they were removed |

If any of the Danfo drivers cannot integrate himself back into the society (either as a licensed Driver of the new scheme or gainfully employed in other businesses) then na village straight.....and let not anybody threaten us with "armed robbery"......Abba Kyari and his boys know how to treat your fvckups |
