Nigerian Government Adopts Measures To Reduce Food Prices by jimfarayola(op): 3:39pm On Feb 08, 2017
The Federal Government of Nigeria says it has adopted some measures to reduce the price of food items.
This was revealed by the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting ofthe Federal Executive Council, FEC.The Council had last week set up a task force to advise the government on how bestto address the rising cost of food items across the country.

Mr. Ogbeh said the task force submitted an interim report to the council on Wednesday. He said the committee had identified that the hike in cost is “not due to shortage but high cost of transportation”.He said food items are generally moved across Nigeria with heavy trucks and the price of diesel which has gone up has therefore, led to increase in prices.

He said the government had therefore, decided to “start using railway wagons to transport food items.
”The minister said the use of wagons to transport cattle from the north to Lagos hasalready greatly helped in reducing cost and will be replicated in food distribution.“We will also work with state governments to reduce delays experienced by trucks along the roads through all sort of taxes by local governments,” he said.

Mr. Ogbeh also said the government has decided to adopt the “Ivory Coast model” in which trucks distributing food items are given special labels.

We are not going to believe you until itvis done, because all your promises are always met with disappointment.

Your party and party promises are always lies and deception.

Let's see it done first!

Are they just realizing this?

This is the reason why citizens should speak up during oppresion, as we can see that this idea would not have materialized if people did not complain.

This is the major difference between Africa and the developed world, over here we have reactionary leaders that only function in times of desperation rather than the visionary leadership of the West which thinks about the future while also catering for the present.

Does the committee identify extortion by security men on the roads as one of the reasons for high cost of food? A trailer heading to South with cattle needs at least #200,000 to settle soldiers and other security men on the roads and it is the consumers that finally pay for it.

This is the most stupid statement from this government.

Why can't they face it that the rise in foodstuffs is as a result of inflation today.

Another reason is the exchange rate because those foodstuff sellers will need to buy things they don't produce and also meet their other pressing needs like clothes, new house, cars, farm machines etc

Re: Nigerian Government Adopts Measures To Reduce Food Prices by grandstar(m): 3:57pm On Feb 08, 2017
The primary reason why food prices are high is due to the collapse of the naira from around 200.to a $ in 2015 to 490 today. Note that also the price of diesel is set internationally.

Also, protectionist policies such as high import duties on rice and increased duties on wheat have only worsened matters.

Imported food would have helped moderate the price of local ones but that's not the case.

Also there has been massive demand for food from neighbouring francophone countries who now find our food very cheap as their currency has increased in value by at least a 100% against the naira over the last two years.

Lord have mercy.... Reallyhuh That's the fucckery they came up with?

Well it is obvious they are a bunch of illiterates with no knowledge of how the economy works.

My friend people are selling what they are not producing and the prices have gone up because of reduced dollar capacity to pay for imports. Roll out programs to boost local production in the short term and in the long term, achieved over time.

Bunch of losers
