This is not the plane Ojukwu flew into exile on!

I say this because of what those with Ojukwu at Uli Aiport said.

Philip Effiong said in his book "Biafra: My Story" that the plane Ojukwu left with was a large cargo plane that had propellers. This plane is neither large nor has it got propellers.

Philip Effiongs son who flew out with Ojukwu said that the plane was so high off the ground that a tall ladder had to be placed by the door of the plane to help people up. This plane is so low to the ground it doesnt need ladders.

The third reason why I think this is not the plane Ojukwu flew out in is because people like General Alexander Madieboh, Mr Akpan and Col Nwobosi who were all on the plane with Ojukwu all confirmed that the Plane had only four seats and carried a huge number of people. This plane doesnt look like a cargo plane with just four seats that can take a lot of people.

Facts: Ojukwu never started or declared war against anyone. It was Gowon who declared 'Police action' which started the war.

The war would have been avoided had Gowon honoured the Aburi agreement he signed in Ghana.


Ojukwu was already a senior military officer, a highly educated individual and had a father who was one of the richest men in Nigeria. If Ojukwu had been interested in power and wealth, Biafra would have been the last thing on his mind.

Biafra was a a declaration of independence from the British colonial contraption called Nigeria. The Eastern Nigeria consultative forum representing the 20 provinces that made up the old Eastern Region mandated Ojukwu to declare the Eastern Region a separate country on the 28th of May 1967. Ojukwu declared Biafra 2 days later.

For Ojukwu, it was a war of liberation. For Gowon, it was a war of subjugatiom.


Ojukwu was in Biafra for the 3 years of the war and only flew into exile 2 days before the war officially ended. Only a very foolish person will stay back to die when they have an escape route.

Stop listening to ourdated and discredited Yoruba propaganda. Ojukwu did not cause the deaths of millions of people, Nigeria did. It was Nigeria that came to the East to kill millions and not Ojukwu. If Nigeria had wanted, it could have chosen a peaceful resolution to the problem rather than the violent war it chose.


Hitler and Ojukwu were fighting for opposite things. Ojukwu was fighting for the freedom of his people, Hitler was fighting to take the freedom of people away.

Hitler deseved to commite suicide, but not a freedom fighter like Ojukwu

Read Nigerian history well, Ojukwu had no time to be patient. Gowon had announced the dismantling of the 4 Regions effectively removing Ojukwu and breaking the Aburi agreement he signed in Ghana. Had Ojukwu wasted time declaring Biafra, there would have been nothing to declare.

Nigerian youth with misplaced priority. The Nigerian - Biafrian civil war should have been a platform to make Nigeria better like America did. Instead it has drawn us apart because of misrepresentation of fact and failure to accept and correct those issues that gave rise to the war in the first place. To make it worst, the country has decided to eliminate it from her history which is very unfortunate. Lot of people on this platform were not born then neither have they taken time to study the issue surrounding the the war from both local and international perspective. Those issues are still there to date and no body is doing anything to correct them. Several mistakes were done then and are still been done today. The leaders then were faced with a situation that the people never experienced and had to do what was seen to be right to them then including Ojukwu. Bear in mind that Nigeria was an entity contrived by the Britain for trading purpose. The war could have been avoided if there were concerted effort to implement the Aburi agreement or any other acceptable agreement to both party and rather than to centralized government which Ironsi started and Gowon tenaciously held to and is still been practiced today. Nigerians are still calling for the same restructure today. If we don't correct the fundamental issues, our past as a nation will continue to hunt our future. The war was not about Ojukwu nor was it about Gowon. It was about the unabated genocide and resolve of a people to protect themselves, so nobody should twist the history. God Bless the people of Nigeria.

You said it all... any news in nairaland usually turns to war between Igbos and Yorubas even some news that needs applause. This is so bad. Other tribes also exists in this Nigeria. This is one of National heritage that tells our story as a nation. It depends on how we individually want to see it the picture. I remember how excited I was as a kid in 1982 or there about to see Murtala Mohammed's official vehicle at Onikan Museum. I still could visualize it in my mind today.

Actually that's what Nigerian military leaders wanted to do..kill off the male Igbo population and enslave the women and children but Gowon held them back bkos the British had already warned them that if they tried that, they'd invade Nigeria themselves and recolonize the country. That's why muritala and his cohorts piped down.

And this reasoning of yours is why the Igbos will continue to seek to pull out of Nigeria.
