Now I see why our politicians loot the nation with impunity and still get celebrated by the very people whose lives have been reduced to poverty by the looters. The lady made a mistake by transferring the wrong amount of money to the receiver. Nobody knows the state of mind she was in when the transfer was being made. It's called a careless mistake. The receiver on the other hand didn't make any mistake(s). She acknowledged the receipt of the money and proceeded to spend it. Now that's a crime. Let's call it what it is - a CRIME. She's a CRIMINAL! Stop celebrating thieves!

It is a simple case, write an instruction at your bank requesting for a recall of funds stating the amount, account details of receiver and sender. Request a lien on the receiver account. Go to the nearest high court, obtain an affidavit on the claim, and head to a police state where a jurisdiction covers your home address or where your bank account was opened for a police report. Take both the affidavit and police report to your bank were the instruction was written and drop a copy at the receiver bank (if it is a different bank). Never, drop the original of the affidavit.

Receiver bank will place a restriction on the and place a minus debt on the account. If it is too bad, allow the bank and police to do their job.

Truly, the Nigeria Police is effective and your friend.
It is not that simple
Under what law will a banker refuse to honour its customer's cheque based on the petition of a third party?
The relationship between a bank and its customer is contractual
The person who paid in error is not a party to it
Let him bring a court order to stop transactions on the account - an ordinary letter WILL not do
The beneficiary (payee) of a cheque cannot even stop the cheque if it is stolen from him; only the drawer (the account holder) can

Consider the opposite - you sell goods to somebody, he pays you and changes his mind about it because the price is lower somewhere and he now tells the bank he paid you in error

He needs a court order - even the police cannot freeze without a court order

You have a point there with a court order but in some cases, the banks do have the power to carry out an investigation when foul play is suspected. For me i got my money back. The court order was my 2nd choice in the list and the 3rd was locate the receiver, get him arrested and proceed to the courts.

People make mistakes and this is no exception. It wouldn't take anything for the so-called couple to return the hard earned money to the rightful owner but greed wouldn't let that happen. God is watching them! Karma is watching! Sometimes God allows certain things to happen just to see our reaction and reward us accordingly. That lady should either take the issue to the appropriate authority or let God fight for her.
