The north presented a presidential candidate in the person of Buhari. They did so without prompting from the south. People talked about a repeat of Yaradua phenomenon but the north was unstoppable. The problem is that they believe so much in the accomplished aged men than in vibrant educated young men and women who are nationally accepted (which they have in abundance). Given another chance I have no doubt that they will present people like Domkat Bali, TY Danjuma or Barnabas Gemade. I suggest for the sake of the North and peace in our country, that we modify the constitution so that the President and his vice come from the same region, if possible from the same village.

Not exactly bro. Most of us dont bloody care where the person comes from, especially me; he could be a Tibetan for all i care.

But Nigeria is a unique country and our people have yet to attain such levels of political maturity and suphistication to ignore these nuances. Sacrifices have to be made to keep this ship bouyant and one of such is ensuring there's a balance of power between the North and South.
No yawa. That is how we want it, so it would be Southern Nigeria's birthright from '23 to '31.

This is why despite his handicap, some people desire to see Baba's face in that office all through to '23, because should someone else take over from him in '19, with the greed of the typical Nigerian politician, he wouldnt wanna run just a single term and with that, we might be looking at power returning down South '27 at the earliest.

So, call it a birthright whatsoever, we dont bloody care, but for the sake of political stability, it should become the birthright of Southerners from '23 to '31.
you have always been speaking from the both side of your mouth.,

People like you are the reason why Nigeria is like this..

I can proffer common sense solutions but I cannot help people who are plagued but tribalism.

Nothing will help them, it is a sickness like religion.

But Nigeria has state and local governments, let the local governments push for greater autonomy and then create the environment in which local business can thrive and then there will less desire for people to ally themselves with 'tribe'.
As for me, the simplest and most direct route to confronting these agitations is making those elective positions far less lucretive. Once one doesnt see a route to making billions from them, it would become unattractive to those who desire to get there for anything else besides service to their people.

And to those monkeys sumasaulting in and out of my mentions, i see you all, but like Fayose your god, i dont talk to monkeys- sorry.

You can make them less lucrative by ensuring that there are always checks and balances in place so that no one entity holds too much power (or money).

You need to make the salaries competitive to attract capable hands but you're right that they should not become avenues for people to make millions (of dollars) in a short space of time.

When has medical checkup lasted up to a month.

You are aware today 19th February marks exactly one month your Buhari left for a ten day medical vacation.

Doesn't this register in your GEJ bashing brain that not all is well with your Khalifa?

A typical check up does not take a whole month.

And if you saw his Democracy Day address you would know that this man has not been well for some time.

Friend, my concern is on power returning to South by 2023 and Buhari's 8years in power is the only thing that can assure that. If you're waiting for a Northerner who will do better than Buhari, then I have to laugh in Swahili.

Any northerner would be better than Buhari. Even by northern standards Buhari is terrible.

But given the choice I would want for someone who is interested in federalism so that the issue of presidency isn't such a big problem in the future - whether that is a northerner or a southerner I do not care.

I think with the situation in Nigeria and in all honesty I will support a northern presidency come 2019. Not because I believe this is the way to go at all but it is one less problem to deal with and I appeal to all Nigerians to let whatever interests they have go. The nation is in dire straits right now economically and socially and can ill afford a contentious poll and power tussle at the centre. The transition to the next administration must be as smooth, even smoother than that of 2015 because this is the only hope we have of retaining the remaining eggs in the basket.

As for President Buhari, I think he should start the process of finding his successor. Clearly his body is not in support of his vision for this country and he should not even contemplate continuing beyond this term. The memories of the Yaradua saga and the ensuing instability is not helping this country in the eyes of those who can help and he has to use the remaining period in government to consolidate the gains made so far and institutionalise the processes and procedures both in government and in his party the APC such that his legacy is intact and will continue to be felt for times to come.

It was good while it lasted, it could be better if it lasted longer.

Anyone who has the genuine interests of Nigeria cannot ask President Buhari to continue beyond 2019. This country needs solid leadership. It takes more energy to right a sinking ship than to sink one and in the eyes of the world we cannot be considered serious with an incapacitated captain. If anything happens to him in office it will be worse. Yes for the sake of political stability Nigeria should support a northern presidency but that is only because we have more pressing problems and can ill afford opening up another war front. If we encounter a messy transition you can imagine what will happen to the already battered naira. I am not an apostle of nonchalantly destroying with the hope of repairing. A wise man chooses his battles and the chronicles of this government are clear to be read to all that you will have to face the mess you help create.

If the north is determined to hold on by all and every means fair or foul, I think in the interests of all Nigerians, they should let them be. If not whoever succeeds will have to explain the broken pieces of china scattered all over the kitchen floor and will bear the near impossible ignomy of putting them back together. In a nutshell he will most certainly inherit failure. Let us use the period 2019 to 23 to come together to repair the existing economic damage. Let socio-political brigandage take the backseat for a few years. Nigeria is on her knees abeg. Na peson wey chop belleful dey fight....mbok.

Where did he say in the interview that the presidency is the North's birthright till 2023??Amala and Ewedu journalism!!

I read it from start to finish and I could not pick up a single line that even had any tone remotely similar.

He made it clear the North had an advantage that expires in 2023 when if the rotation principle is applied the presidency would move to another region
