haha..

My life switched in one night.

My older self would have ran to social media, but Mehn ain't gat no time to flaunt, you won't believe something came up one day like that and I had to tell a particular friend while chatting that I bought a particular stuff,

He never believed until he came and saw it.

So for all its worth, no one cares, just make sure your bank account is happy with you always

My dear you are not alone o.That was how one my friend was uploading pix of been inside a plane. He said he was coming to Naija from ghana ,he cannot go through the stress of boarding a car that journey was too far.I now said okay since the money is there.Only for him to called me few hours time that he is helpless in the airport. I asked him the reason why,he said his luggage did not come with him, that I should send him airtime to call the airline in ghane. You can imagined that kind of thing.Someone who said he took plane from Ghana to Naija do not have airtime on his phone.I just off my phone immediately because I don't have time for nonsense.

For the single ones like me our married friends never fail to flaunt their wedding, marital and family life on fb, making some of us to feel unfortunately single. A friend once upload picture of their new bundle of joy, less than 5 minutes the child didn't survive, it took them about 2 years to have another issue. That was how a policeman uploaded details of his child dedication, enemies track him and finish his family, another one after using his hard earn money from peacekeeping to a build a house his wife uploaded the picture and attracted assasins.

Good observation, there!. So spot on.

Apparently, everyone is afraid to fail in life, so we put on this 'fake apparel' on social media so as to appear good and not left behind. We try to impress and not express our being. Social Media presents a false reality TV show. It takes those who are real not to be caught up in its antics.

While, I dont support such fake life. However, Isnt it strange that supposed fake people inspire us to reach out for more, pray more, aspire more. It's the flip side of the coin. ☺ #JustCurious.

Word!!' cool

Personal experience on Facebook some years ago.

I knew a guy who once uploaded on his timeline, a picture of brand new Toyota Camry Le, I even congratulated him for his new Car, he responded and told me that God will also do it for me grin.

Months later, I got to know that this guy doesn't even own a Bicycle, not to mention a moving Car shocked...
People can lie for Africa angry..

Nigerian girls own is a different story, if I start to talk about their own life on Social Media, this thread will reach 400 pages.

After the upload boss chick, #slayQueen, slave chick ni
When you try chatting with them, you will find out the are #brokechick #hungergames #povertyBae
grin

I have so many regrets about Facebook. I didn't understand that people were really watching and trying to see the next step you take. Growing up, when Facebook newly came out, I would complain and rant when I was having a hard time especially when I was in school. After school I became a social media political warrior and was gaining a little bit of popularity. I would have continued and perhaps one of this political parties would have contacted me cus they contacted a few social media warriors I personally no but the heat was just to much for me, 3 years ago I started reducing my Facebook activities a lot until last year when I got my job and went from a size 18 to 12. Lost a lot of weight. I was so happy to upload pictures of my office and my progress in loosing weight, My happiness was shortlived four months later. Lost the job and almost back to the size I lost. I cannot upload pictures nor anything cus I am so ashamed.

I realised that all those times I uploaded pictures of me doing well, I was indirectly taunting a lot of my mates. Sometimes u might think u are celebrating but there is a thin line between showing off and actually praising God. Who really is giving thanks to God? And how does one show appreciation to him without showing off?

Times are hard. The Country is extremely difficult to live in. We all need to be tactful. I would never want to be the reason someone will commit crime.

op, I don't even know how to start to agree with you.
I don't know which story to tell concerning this matter.

I know a couple of people - ex school mates o, family members o who do this fake life on social media.

some call it 'fake it till you make it'.

There's this homeless broke girl i happen to know personally on my Snapchat that's fooling everyone to think she lives a posh life in Lekki but the girl barely has a job and squats from one house to another every week

i can't even start to give stories, cos I won't finish.

Don't believe those things o.

real successful people don't flaunt it, and that's the truth. infact, they hardly change or update pictures. They're too busy for that. they probably have the least Instagram followers.
you might not even find some on Instagram

@op, good morning. Bc you are just waking up to what most people know. Even most of the people here on this thread supporting you are also living fake life if u get to their facebook page.

Just a hint, here's a quote I made recently on a different thread and a different issue. It may help with understanding

toshmann:

grin
Fake is the name of the game in the states.
Fake hair,
fake skin color,
fake breast,
fake butt,
fake wealth (credit card/loans/etc).
Fake education (some of those guys who say I'm a professor in the US na local community college dem go)
Fake happiness (many smiling photos on facebook from america are actially people who are depressed) grin
Fake jobs: (many people have no real jobs but they will say I'm a realtor, into real estate, teacher etc. Na lie. Dem got nothing doing grin
Fake marriages: you know every cheesy
Fake homes: those houses na bank own am cheesy. No be like naija wey u go build ya own house. Here na bank own the house, you go de pay mortgage. Dem fit vex one day come collect their thing grin

Even sef the latest na fake men and women. You fit go carry woman u no go know say she was a man 2 years ago. grin

So my dear, chill. Na so we see am, no be we start am. cheesy

Actually those pictures will make u work harder and serve as source of inspiration but it depends on how you look those things. I experience things like this way back when Instagram wasn't even there. What I did was to take it as source of motivation and the rest is history. A friend who post pictures of him in exotic locations and claiming good life in Frankfort Germany suddenly turned cold when he got a call from me and I was in Frankfort to take care of some business. Only for me to know my guy dey wash plate for one local restaurants. Social media and lies.

Yes this country is bad now but don't forget we are talking about people living social media fake lifes. Anyway u don't have to give on on this country easily. I believe there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Washing plate in Europe is not a better option trust me.

Interesting thread and comments.

The race is not to the swift. That someone got an early start ahead of you doesn't mean you can't eventually catch up and exceed them. Starting well is not what matters, finishing well is what does.

All the people I know who are doing very well, from their social media profiles you won't even have a clue. Empty barrels have to make the loudest noise, that's the way it is.

Very true... That was how i hustled to gather 5k for good two weeks and took my gf to Oluma rock, under the scorching sun, i wore my one and only suit (which I used for my bsc project defense). So i took some nice pix and uploaded it on my fb, the comments flowing in was my friends asking me the name of the company am working for, most of them feeling as if I am P.A to Donald Trump just because i took pix next to G wagon parked at owners risk.
damn!
