I almost didn't want to comment but seeing some of the comments from people with poor knowledge, I just had to say something.

Consider the following to update your thinking.

What is the one thing nations compete for worldwide, FDI.

Every country wants people with hard dollars to bring it into their country, create value and grow the economy.

Now for whatever reason, we seem to have a group of people that think that foreign investment is bad. They at the earliest provocation of any sort want to take it out on foreign investors.

For your information, if you kick out foreign investors or make life hard for them in any way, FDI will dry up and the countries economy will collapse ultimately. We are seeing this already in small degrees with international investors avoiding Nigeria due to our multiple structural issues. No FDI means no new jobs, no taxes, no value creation and stagnant economic growth.

That's why a country will fight against a court ruling that mandated it collect 13 billion euros in taxes from an international corporation. True story: http://fortune.com/2016/08/30/apple-ireland-tax-bill-noonan/

I am so relieved to see that there are still sensible Nigerians.

Some of the comments got me thinking that there was no hope.

Nice move, if the SA authorities re not ready to handle the issue with fairness, seems they are indirectly instigating the xenophobia from their body language.
Shoprite, DStv and MTN Nigeria can easily be bought off by our standby billionaires.
SAs should goto hell.

I wonder why they're wasting time. They'll be debating again.
Just Gove them notice of some months to pack their things and go. They should go and make money out of the endless opportunities in South Africa.

I agree with you guys, this relationship it must stop, no one need a stress. You must keep your nigeria, We will keep our own SA, We survived without africa for millions years. We have our own stress here at home. Take your people back to your country. We don't need a stress. We achieved so many things without your noise for so many years. We will continue to work together with our neighbors as usualy. This noise is irritating. I don't think it good to talk bad about my country. We don't need any favour from you. I believe you are the one who will suffer the most. I don't believe the will be more companies from SA to nigeria again. Almost 90% of your malls are own by south africans, Shoprite, Mr Price, Game, and many more. Now is time to say Good bye. No more nice stuff grin

If a whole president of South Africa could fly and come to Nigeria to beg us so as to reduce the fine given to MTN then it is obvious that the South African economy is in our hands. Better warn your brothers because once a decision is made, there will be no going back.

It is obvious you don't know your own economy. When the news of MTN fine came, do you know the massive impact it had on the JSE alone?MTN shares in JSE lost 20% market value in minutes. Now imagine all SA companies being affected, you guys will end up being beggars again at the mercy of the white men over there and this time no one will listen to your cry if apartheid.

Don't tell me about economy, we know our country will survive without you, We survive alone before, nothing new. Our main aim, to go to africa was to help you, to change your life style, giving you jobs, but if you don't need that. nothing wrong. Don't expect your people will remain in SA after that. we aren't friends. If you care more you must be very careful before you act, if you really need help.

It's not a matter of "let", we're not holding them hostage here. It's funny how your govt. people are barking about chasing South African companies away but are not saying anything about taking their people back. That to me would be a fair trade.
