NAF LOCALLY PRODUCES AVIONICS TEST BENCH ON ALPHA JET The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in collaboration with Nigerian Universities, has successfully produced a test bench locally for testing the anti-skid system on the Alpha Jet aircraft. The new test bench allows the entire anti-skid system to be tested on the ground before installation on the aircraft unlike what hitherto obtained where test on the aircraft component was carried out in parts. This feat has not only saved the country huge foreign exchange that otherwise would have been spent abroad, it also marks a major research and development breakthrough for the NAF in its drive towards developing local capacity for self-reliance. The feat is also a major plus for the NAF in its conduct of offensive air operations in the North East given the crucial role played by the Alpha Jets in the ongoing counterinsurgency operation against the Boko Haram Terrorists. Those involved in the collaborative effort with the Air Force Research and Development Centre include Professor Mohammed Dauda from Ahmadu University Zaria as well as Engineers Kabiru Abdulwahab and Mahammad Shuwa from University of Maiduguri. Others are Professors JD Jiya, EE Omixegba, Engineer Mohammed Baahir and Dr Kabiru Ibrahim from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. The latter team helped the NAF with the repairs of faulty gyro and UHF/VHF radio systems, which has been a recurrent issue, on the Alpha Jet due to old age. Meanwhile the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has promised to give more aircraft maintenance work to the team with a view to spurring technological growth as well as save the country scarce resources. The CAS made the disclosure in Kaduna while appreciating the combined team of professionals from the Nigerian Universities for its spirited effort and contribution to national development. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okzUdzn27OU |

Hi Patches, can you please explain why the US retired its fighter bomber fleet. From my little understanding it has to do with a change of warfare strategy Patchesagain: |

kenpaul0:off topic : Two-thirds of US Navy strike fighter jets can't fly Nearly two-thirds of the US Navy's F/A 18 strike fighter jets are currently unable to fly, grounded due to repair delays or because they are awaiting spare parts.read more http://edition.cnn.com/2017/02/10/politics/us-navy-planes-grounded/ |

Henry240:All these innovations must not go to waste , I feel NAF should try and work corporations to produce this aircraft and perform their main role as trainers while dedicated attack platforms are sourced. |

Katyusha:There are plans to withdraw the Alpha jets from service. That's what the Tucano is for. Until then, it is only proper that we keep the Alphas in service, serviceable. |

DEATHMACHINE:The Alpha jets would have to be replaced. I don't think we ever deploy them as Trainers or do I say the majority of them are deployed in the light attack role. In my opinion, anything other than the JF-17 and a dedicated COIN aircraft like the Tucano would be a collosal mistake. |

kenpaul0:Because with the advent of guided munitions and targetting pods a B-1 can now do what a F-111 did. More payload, longer range, longer loiter time and safer. Another example is the USAF using the B-52 in place of the A-10. |

IbnSultaan:why haven't the army done it in other Nigeria languages. or is Hausa now the default official Nigerian language. |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 3:43pm On Mar 06, 2017 |
Henry240:they are primarily trainers and have played that role ,lack of adequate jets made them playing strike roles.upgrades have been carried out also |

giles14:I haven't seen this video but lemme say Hausa is not the default lingo of NA ,from my own point of view I its due to the geographical effects of having basic military training training institutions in the northern part. So its the first language after English you will definitely come across in the barrack community.back when I was in termer one most of my course mates who lived in Lagos started forming Hausa accents when they went home just the way some nigerians form British accents after spending one year in England. So my friend Hausa is not an official lingo |

giles14:You stop all these ur nonsense. Everyone knows the history behind y Hausa is commonly used in Nigeria Barracks dating back to WAFF n loc of training institutions, so many ppl folks from South speak Hausa fluently. And NA trains officers in other languages, you left the Chinese aspect . |

giles14:i didn't think something like this we be discussed on this blog. DURING training during practice runs the Nigerian army " sings/ chants diferent songs from different languages even some incorporated from the old / defunct biafran army, the fact that they are singing hausa songs is not a big deal, they sing YORUBA / IBGO/ PIDGIN ENGLISH songs too. |

SA Navy displays new riverine patrol boats http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47024:sa-navy-displays-new-riverine-patrol-boats&catid=51:Sea&Itemid=106 "the boats can be equipped with a single 12.7 mm machinegun and two SS77 7.62 mm machineguns. The boats are powered by twin water jets. According to information obtained by military analyst Darren Olivier of African Defence Review, the boats are powered by two inboard V8 diesel engines giving a top speed of 20 knots. They accommodate five crew and ten passengers. A variety of small boats are being acquired for the South African Navy under Project Carol, including boarding boats, diving boats, riverine patrol boats, ship sea boats, ferries, sailing dinghies, an ocean racing yacht and associated trailers.
