CAS CALLS FOR MORE INTER-AGENCY COLLABORATION
The need for more collaborative efforts among security agencies to tackle various internal security challenges confronting the country has been stressed. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar made the call during the graduation ceremony of 487 cadets of the Department of State Services (DSS) held at the DSS Academy in Lagos. The CAS who was the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion noted that recent successes recorded in the fight against insurgency and other forms of criminalities in the country were as a result of inter-agency cooperation.

While congratulating the graduands, Air Mshl Abubakar stated that the training would further boost the security system of the country. “The injection of fresh minds into the nation’s security system has become a top priority for all security managers. I have no doubt in my mind that their contributions to national service will be seen and appreciated in no distant time” .The CAS assured the DSS of NAF’s continued support as well as improved working relationship to enhance the nation’s security architecture.

In his remarks, the Director General, (DG) DSS, Alhaji Lawal Daura disclosed that the security challenges facing the country required constant flow of critical intelligence. “The security intelligence services are besieged with a lot of threats such as terrorism, insurgency, cybercrime, corruption, kidnapping, espionage, subversion and others. According to the DG, to effectively deal with these threats, there is the need to fully apply the knowledge acquired to ensure availability of critical intelligence to deal with any threat. Highlight of the occasion included display of combat, driving and ground-breaking drills by the graduating officers.

Lack of vision..these people should leave this aircraft alone.. Haba!
For the training role this aircraft is good, its a trainer. NAF choose it for this role training, and this aircraft saved our lives after being militarise. For the role of ground attack im ok with it is not appropriate. But for advance training & light attack the only jet better than alpha jet is the Yak-130

All these innovations must not go to waste , I feel NAF should try and work corporations to produce this aircraft and perform their main role as trainers while dedicated attack platforms are sourced.
Yes since they like it why not, a trainer light attack under licence for a start this is very good

you people should stop taking your opinion as fact, most arguments usually starts with someone stating an opinion as fact.

.
The alpha jet is nowhere as good as other regular trainer/attack plane, heck its not even near the top ten in its trainer class. with a bomb load of 2,500Kg and a combat radius of just 600+ km its not really a spectacular aircraft.

How can you argue without giving your opinion, and it is not because its an opinion that what is being said is false. And also I gave no fact, but here is one : Alpha jet is still in use by many countries including Egypt, Morocco, Portugal, Qatar, Thailand, a super power France.
This jet it is not build for dog fight but for training, and can be coverted in light attack so it is normal that the range that the combat range is small ... Compare to other jet of the same age and same type the Alpha is the best. It is cost effective, efficient, and it work... Dont judge the ability of the Alpha to fight, keep in mind is an trainer and as a trainer I have no problem with the that jet and since It is not bad in light attack and killed more boko than any other jet. I am satisfied with. We need a true ground attack jet yes I no. But say that alpha jet hasnt been a good boy I am not ok with that

I don't think they participated soomuch in this years event, either they are really busy or their superiors realized how big of a joke the whole exercise is.

CSIR develops active aerostat

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has developed a novel active aerostat, which although tethered, has control surfaces to allow it to better withstand the elements and provide better stability than traditional aerostats.

The helium-filled wing shaped balloon is fitted with rigid control surfaces, allowing it to better maintain its position in high wind conditions through the additional lift created by the envelope. This results in better coverage from sensors fitted to the aerostat, as conventional aerostats will be pulled back and buffeted by the wind. The aerostat features an active control system, with an autopilot controlling pitch, roll and yaw.

Applications could include military and security, farming, wildlife monitoring, crowd control, border surveillance, mining surveillance, shark monitoring, advertising and communications relay.

The active aerostat, designed by the CSIR in collaboration with Dr Ralph Katzwinkel, first flew in April 2016.

The plan is to put the aerostat to work monitoring 300 km stretches of South Africa’s coastal and northern borders.

The CSIR’s Francois Anderson believes that with an appropriate mix of mountain-based and aerostat-based radars it should be possible to cost-effectively cover all of South Africa’s land and coastal border zones. South Africa has more than 4 400 km of land borders and a coastal border of a further 2 800 km.

Unfortunately it is true. From the videos I have seen of this year's exercise, the whole thing looks like a big joke.

Again, I'm making a comment based on what I've seen.

Well, I was and am going beyond superficial photos and videos. Things like "Basic Marksmanship" and "Basic Combat Radio Procedure" for example, have no place in an SOF exercise. And some of the scenarios. Jesus wept!

Nah common man that's not what you said, you didn't say thesame thing as I said, you said in a more "master and slave tone" .... you were like South Africa is the only SSA country that has mutually beneficial exercises with western militaries.

The arrogant manner in which you presented it sparked the whole argument.
