So they were already selling to you their secondary markets rates all this while?
I have never bought secondary market from them. I got 17.05% for 182 days in the last bid from First Bank.

Good News! Good News! Good News! Good News! Good News! Good News!

The DG of DMO just anounced on AIT that in a few months from now, they will launch an APP that we can all download and transact FGN Savings Bond without the stress of going through any institution.

Happier days ahead.

Indeed that is what I thought the Government would do. Kenya launched M-Akiba in 2015 where Govt bonds were offered exclusively through mobile phones

lets not jump into conclusion so fast, from what i understand about NTB...individuals ordinarily cannot apply directly unless they have a minimum of 150m......thats y we go through the banks or financial houses , and what the banks do is to compile a list of applicants.....then apply to the CBN......on our behalf, minimum investments varied with the different banks. So now if this new policy is stating 50m minimum.....how does that affect us when ordinarily we dont apply individually or r u guys saying that the banks would require u to have 50m before u can put in an application at the bank level.

fidelity securities and other finance houses could as well collect peoples money and invest in d NTB primary market.......without any wahala just like they have always done . or r we saying that the finance houses would no longer offer such services unless we apply with 50m.

as individuals we dont subscribe directly to CBN.....and from what i read above ,minimum subscription to the CBN on NTB is 50m.

i would like answers and clarifications on my observations.
You are right, I have filed the form for the next bid and my account was just debited.

When FBN debits you for NTB there is 99 % probability of success.
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by zamirikpo(m): 3:15pm On Mar 06, 2017
Last warning to d mods that banned @feelamong.

Then to d issue of d day, d new guidelines may not necessarily affect us.....I think its meant for banks and finance houses not individual investors

So let's not pannick.....let's go about d next auctions like nothing happened and see what d banks would tell us. I plan to walk up to my branch, apply as usually with my stop rates and see how it plays out. The bankers don't even know jack about NTB grin

Rates may drop a little though.
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by 40manlappy:
@zamirikpo

Lol @The bankers don't even know jack about NTB cheesy grin

That might be an exaggeration but truly, majority of bank workers do not know much about Tbills and the reason is not far-fetched.

Apart from the top guys, most of those who know how NTB works are either staff who process it for their customers or those who invest in Tbills themselves.

Wow....

Am back after my ban...

Since its obvious that we all cannot take part in the Primary markets anymore...

I want to suggest that we share info on what each of our Investment bankers are offering in the secondary markets...

At least that way we can identify the banks/Investment houses with the best rates and deal with them..

Shalom!!
I think what banks and investment houses will try to do is act normal that means they will still try to do the normal Tbills transaction considering they will always have funds above the minimum amount, that way they get to retain their clients. the will buy in their(bank/investment house) name and appropriate to you based on how much worth Tbills you want( business as usual) but where the challenge will come up is when the collect funds from their clients and the whole funds are not up to 50m

This is my simple idea.

You get true yield when you hold your investment to maturity.

Suppose you invested 100,000 Naira for 364days at 18.28%. The interest is 18,280 Naira. Now remember that the debit from your account will be 100,000-18,280 which is 81,720.

So to calculate your true yield
(18,280/81,720)*100%.

Ans : 22.37%
please whats the essence or importance of true yield if all you will get is 18280. Does the true yield change anything?

I looked at the FGN savings bond. It seems the yield wont be better than TBs. Please does any one have an opinion on which is better. Thanks.

feelamong
The true yield is your true returns on your investment not the discount/stop rate.

In the example you quoted, the 18.28% is on the face value of N100,000 but you didn't invest N100,000 but just N81,720 because that is what is debited to your account. The interest of N18,280 is actually received on an investment of N81,720 which gives a return of around 22.3%

Unlike fixed deposits that you receive your interest at the end of the tenor in which case, the actual and true yield are the same.

Another way to derive the true yield on treasury bills is that since you receive the interest upfront, that interest is immediately available for another investment e.g in the example above, if you reinvest the Upfront interest of N18,280 on the same tenor at 18.28%, you will earn additional N3,341. So your total interest will be 18,280+3341=N21,621. If you also reinvest the upfront interest of N3,341 @ 18.28%, you get additional N610 bringing your total interest to N22,221 all on investments totalling N100,000 running concurrently. That is 22.22% true yield.
