Do you have to show us your inability to read and comprehend wtf you read? This your post and even equating it as what the article said showed you don't even know how to read whatsoever. I doubt you even understood wtf written up there. Agbero goat

Well then I'm not shocked. You Afonja are the biggest illiterate known to men. Una rather be agbero than go to school. Wtf do i except from a bunch of savages whose oba begged English men to come and colonize them to stop them from killing each other of like rats. I don't know why the British did as una asked, they should have allowed una to wipe each other of the face of the earth. The less black Savage monkeys in this world, the better.

The truth remains that yorubas would have been extinct by now if the British didn't save them from killing themselves. They would have been a micro-minority group today.

The first Black African to write a book was an Igbo- Olaudah Ikwuano (Equiano), a book he wrote before Crowther (whose true ethnicity is still being questioned) was born. Crowther's training in English literature required reading Olaudah's book. So you see an Igbo taught your Crowther some of what he knew. cheesy

the significance of the writeup was not brought here but I have copied it from the link

With the narration, our minds are awakened to the basic realities of the igbo society. One, she draws our attention to the fact that Ndigbo, prior to the emergence of the state of Nigeria, were largely organised and independent with the best suitable system of administering their society, she did well to refer to the igbo society as a country. Igbo society was democratically communal.
Second, Ndigbo as a people accepted education with open hands. They only resisted the forceful annexation of the igboland by the British colonial masters. This does show that as a people, Ndigbo are naturally inclined to Liberation, independence and freedom. No wonder whatsoever, should be expressed in the agitation of an Igbo person when he feels intimidated or his rights are denied. It is a natural tendency that Ndigbo clamour for their rights.
Three, Ndigbo are real custodians of culture. They love their culture and traditions. On the other hand, they love education which of a truth, can liberate the mind from the shackles of ignorance. And in some way, education which is a western tool, is readily in contention with traditional ideals which is a tool and the essence of existence of the igbo people. Therefore, it is safe to assert that most educated persons of the igbo society are partially mindless about cultural ideals yet, some have manged to reconcile the two indispensable realities and instruments of life.
As we lend our thought to the epistle, let us appreciate the naked truth that Ndigbo are just a unique people with unmatched ability for survival, thansk to the revelation of Mrs. T.J.Dennis.

Thanks a lot... Did you notice the organized communal system? The way the chiefs insisted on consultations and the way a pre existing traditional representative system was beckoned to welcome the strangers? You noticed the bravado exhibited by the man that was intrigued by their "noses"? Typical igbo stuff. I have always said it here. The best type of communal democracy was practiced in igbo land. Some of that exist up till this day. Those who think that monarchy in their places at that age represent a more "sophisticated" political organization are just petty thinkers... Monarchy marks obedience to one man... Communal representation in the process of decision making ,in my assessment is even far modern than some atavistic monarchies..

Udo diri gi nwanem for extracting and pointing out the hidden and undeniable essence of that letter. We were so engrossed in wadding off the attacks from children of hate than perusing to understand the cogent point in that beautiful essay.

And there's one other thing the essay pointed out that caught my attention. The essay noted that even though the community produces and deals in weapons of warfair, "they still live in peace with their neighbours".

Your invective only came short of screaming Afonja, which could have calmed your nerves. You needed to be reminded that the author of the write up was the latter set of missionaries to have visited igbo land. The very first set was led by Ajayi crowther(Afonja) who founded the first mission church, school, clothing materials & educational booklet of vocabulary that were taught igbos how to read & write... Now you see why the Yorubas are referred to as being sophisticated.

I don't like tribal rants but a lot of lies have been told about Ajayi Crowther's expedition to the south east, it was actually Christopher Taylor who led the expedition, being an Igbo man whose father was from Isuama and mother from Arochukwu.
There was this other lie that I read that Ajayi crowther translated the Igbo bible, meanwhile when Ajayi crowther came to Igbo land he found out that the Igbo spoken in Sierra Leone was quite different from what was spokennin south east. So many lies from this people

Right. If the British didn't come, there wouldn't have been a tribe named yoruba today. They would have wiped eachother out considering how they kept killing. When you look at the theor ritualism way, they still doing it, just called it a new name and no more war. That's why it makes me laugh whenever they accuse igbo of being disunity. If I recall, the afonja were the only tribe wiping each off over stupid things. I personally believe that's one of the main reason they scream one nigeria more than anyone else. If it breaks, it's back to them being alone with themselves and back to them killing eachother like before.

Will you stop displaying your stupidity all over this place. This yoruba history rewrite have already been destroyed. Crowther DID NOT build any church in onitsha or did he translate igbo Bible to English or teach anything to igbo.
In his crusade, there were three Africans that came one the mission. Crowther (yoruba), Simon Jonas and Rev Taylor (both of igbo descendant)
The person that translated the bible to igbo was Jonas. All Crowther did was publish Jonas work

In 1857, an ex-slave of Igbo extraction, Simon Jonas, wrote the first manuscript written in Igbo language, 'Isoama-Ibo Primer'. This was done in Sierra Leone for emancipated slave from Igboland in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Igbo dialect spoken in Sierra Leone is called Isoama/Isuama-Igbo. Ex-Lagos slave, Samuel Crowther, published it as a book. Both Jonas and Crowther stayed together in Lagos before being shipped to Sierra Leone.

Trash, trash, trash, arrant trash as usual!..
Not did he only Publish/ptoduced it, he also wrote. He needed someone of an igbo extraction who would help interprete/translate from English to igbo.. fortunately a certain Jonas a bond-servant who worked under him in the mission came in handy. Not only in igbo, but also wrote & produced vocabulary in Yoruba & igala( I suppose).
There is no doubt that Ajayi, being the first west African Bishop established the first mission school & church in igbo land in the town of Onitsha & was later handed over to JC Taylor at the end of his sojourn.

For the record, Ajayi did not translate the English Bible into igbo, rather his igbo counterparts took a leaf from his monumental work( of translating English Bible into Yoruba) & were greatly inspired to write the igbo version. Once again Yoruba leads, igbos copies & follows.
