I AM NOT AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT OBSERVING THE MINING REGULATION, BUT WHAT I AM AGAINST IS "they calling it illegal mining when they are not providing job oppertunities. The few hard working Nigerian who chosses not to go into criminal act resulved to feed their families through this sressfull activity, yet you want to chase them away hereby conveeting the site into a private property just as in the case of TIN and COLUMBITE in Plateau state just for your selfish interest

I don't know if the government has taken possession of all the lands in the north where there are all kinds of deposits and if the federal government has taken control over those places as done in oil rich regions. The fed should also include them 13% derivation from those deposits if it's not been done.

This is serious.
So Nigeria has gold deposit

I learnt that there are large deposits of Gold in Oyo state. Even in Ibadan, when digging well for water, you will see shining particles which they say is gold. Yes I have even witnessed some years back when someone hired labourer to dig on his site for house building but they found gold that's olunde after olomi. That's 1995

Can you please explain how the government is different from the people who elect and/or allow them to be their public servants?
Thanks.

If the person doing this is prosecuted now some coconut heads will start screaming witch hunt and what have you.
And why is it illegal? If I own a piece of land and a mineral resource is discovered there why can I not exploit it?

Finally! A Nigerian who understands property rights. Chop knuckle jare. This is the most basic building block of almost every democracy and capitalist system. That is how a nation develops from the bottom up by guaranteeing freedom to its citizens from the encroachment of govt. This is the most important social contract between the people and the govt.

I think mining should be d sole responsibility of d state, the FG has too much on its plate right nw to be able to monitor and regulate dat sector
Wrong! It should be the sole responsibility of the individual who owns the land. It's called private property rights. It's the reason some countries are rich and some are poor.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Kayode Fayemi, yesterday visited the sites of illegal gold mining operations in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State. Fayemi said, the ministry was on a National tour on mining locations.

The minister, while commenting on illegal mining, said it was a source of concern for the government, adding that steps were being taken to address the challenges. He said the government had been active in pulling together the artisanal and informal miners to reduce illegal mining.

It's very annoying to hear people commenting rubbish about people carrying out illegal minning of Gold in Kaduna. My question is, how many minning License has the government given to companies to mine and employ jobless workers. How well has the government develop policies to develop the mining industries to create job for jobless youth. For me let them mine and create jobs for themselves, since the senseless government has no cut policies to use the mining industry to create job for our youths. My opinion.

That is the norm in Northern Nigeria. Lots of mining going on with nothing going into the federation account.

These activities are not even hidden, they are done in the full glare of the public and law enforcement agents. Along the Potiskum - Fika -Gombe road, there are lots of mining activities going on there and they'd just pocket the money but keep their eyes on oil money.
That's how things are supposed to be. The govt should have no right to take what belongs to an individual. If I own land them i own the resources on it and I can exploit it when I want. It's called property rights.

I'm as free market as they come but guys you guys should get permits. I'm not even sure some of these guys get any before they mine. I think the permits only need to exist for city planning and environmental protection. They also don't pay any taxes to the state as well.

I agree if you own land do as u please with it. Mine your mineral resouces, collect your oil royalty or rent it out.

Look this gold is not available there in commercial quantity..That is why the big Companies have not shown interest.

It is only viable for small interested parties..What the govt should do is to regulate this small holders and make equipment available to them for rentals .

No big Companies will invest in such marginal field
