1. Savings In the process of looking for quick money, we forget planning ahead through savings. My uncle will always tell me: ' It's only lack of planning that makes a man poor.' In whatever trade you find yourself doing, try to save for speculative motive/for the future. I started working as early as 16years. This year [25 now] makes it ten working years in futility. So i've decided that from now till ten years time when i'm ready to settle down, i'll save up 10,000 naira monthly to arrive at 1.2 million naira once i'm 34years. This should help me leave my mother's house and achieve something. |

QueenSuccubus: . Well... The ladies have their future worked out for them already, if you know what I mean . Notwithstanding, females could subscribe to some of my points to be financially independent. |

2. Motivation Ups and downs will come up along the way. What one needs during this time is a motivating factor/person. Things that should storm your mind can be: i need to be a somebody tomorrow, i will make my parents proud, i'm made for greatness,my future children deserve a good life etc. This can spur you on. What kind of friends do you flock with? They can help as well. Those with religious inclinations can motivate you when the ships are down to keep pushing on till you meet your goals. Motivational books can also help. |

3. Self-discipline As a growing man, there are temptations to use money extravagantly on girls, drinking, fancy clothes/gadgets etc. One has to discipline himself & see the bigger picture. Doing these things moderately though is not a bad idea. Choose your friends wisely in order not to join the bandwagon of guys spending above their means to 'belong.' Try to be contented with what you have. |

4. Setting targets/goals To make the long term plan a reality, one needs to set realistic short term targets. From time to time, check if these targets are going smoothly. Irrespective of the obstacles one might face, try not to be deterred. Instead, modify the target. So if your target was 60,000 naira in the next 6 months and you later fall into 50,000 naira, no problem. I've noticed,as some of you must have, that there's a sort of relaxation/optimism about the future for someone who has some money in the bank. A stitch in time, saves nine. |

5. Investment For those who have saved up enough already, genuine investment can help secure your future. Note that ponzi schemes are excluded because online businesses without a face arouses pragmatic objectivity. So thread carefully. Beware of fraudsters and mischievous persons/businesses as well. Being in a partnership business is a good one. I know of a friend of mine who joined hands with some of his friends to go into building rods business. He gets good money regularly now. Like the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad said: let money work for you and not the other way round. |

rhymesnoni:hmm... I feel your pain. Kind of in that web but since i'm not the first child, i try to shift the responsibilities. Let your family into your dreams so they support your long walk to financial freedom. You can specify though if it's another reason |

Nicely written OP.The stated issues are major concerns for young men and women.I also urge early teens who come accross this thread to start putting it to practice. Permit me to add ma lil quota 6.Self development:As a child grows in age he/she should also grow in grace and mental activeness.I noticed very few young men and women actually develop themselves through reading of books which belong to categories such as Financial education, self development, mind excercises, spiritual growth, self discipline e.t.c. This can prove very fatal as self development could and certainly give u an edge both in the present and future over ur mates. It will help u make ur life better and certainly save u from making stupid mistakes and discisions that could cost u a few pennies in the moment but a alot in the next few minutes and a fortune in the future .With self disciple;opportunities are endless. |

rhymesnoni:i get you. This is tough mostly when someone has been introduced to an 'easy way of life' by their parents. You will want to get your needs regularly as it used to be. In terms of financial management, i admire women. But we just need to try. |
