Icon4s:When I talked about the U17, I was being indicative and certainly not definitive or comprehensive with regards to youth football. With regards to your point 2, in that 2009 tournament we got to the final and our boys won the Golden ball, bronze ball and the silver shoe. But they are all playing in low rated teams and not going anywhere fast. Considering that Mario Gotz, Neymar, Isco, Bertrand Traore, Morita, all played in that tournament but are playing in the top teams in Europe. Is that your idea of progress ![]() Your assertion in point 5, about England having an abysmal record in youth competitions is not in dispute. I refer you to my comments about the Toulon tournament 2016 which England won and why. English youth players at the top of thier game are playing in top premiership teams and are not released for age group competitions. In addition they the players often decline cause they are already in senior national team. The purpose of winning youth competitions is to institute development and forward progression for Youth players. With all the youth competitions we have won, where are Nigerians youth players playing and where are England youth players playing . Rashford 19, Ssegnon 16, Dele 20, Kane 23, Reece Oxford 18, Barkley 23, Stones 22, Raheem 22, Harry Winks 21, Rueben Loftus-Cheek 20, Joe Gomez, Tom Davies 18, I will stop here this list is not exhaustive. Your assertions in point 6, smack of biased sentimentality. Outside of KC and Ndidi the rest are highly debatable. Consider Tega Abrahams, Solanke and Ike Ugbo Chelsea youth strikers and compare these boys to them. In addition do you truly believe if KC was in Chelsea he would even be on the bench . The Spanish press not the British press to expunge any claims of bias as you might allege. Picked a best European X1 and included in that line up was Solanke and two other English players who happened to be all black. See below. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/spanish-press-pick-best-under-7429689 I am sure you know Yahaya was at Tottenham and they didn’t consider him good enough and let him go to Sporting. Is it the 21 year old Benin-city man at Watford Isaac Success with his very peculiar name and I will not even talk about age cheating, as some find it such a hard issue to deal with. That is better than the prospects considered on this forum. Point 7 is incredulous, where did you get that idea from I don't believe anyone of note on this forum has made such a nonsensical proposition. So I will not even respond to that.Pont 8 is answered you could say comprehensively by the Spanish press review, not one German player was picked in Europes best youth X1, England had more than any other European nation. Your point 9, I am in complete agreement with. Black players are not given the same opportunities as white player add to the mix corruption and agent manipulation and it gets very complicated. Consider Oyedinma in Millwall he should really be in a premiership team. I rate him higher than Ademola and the difference between them in age is negligible. Finally, I will repost a video of PSG U19's celebrating as they a picture can say a thousand words and a video I guess millions highlighting the difference between England and France. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHDAGDINqyY |

maidaboi:Mbappe deserves praise and respect. He has already broken a few long standing records. By the way, he is more likened to Henry than Ronaldo due to their similar playing style and career path. I think TheGoodJoe erroneously brought up the comparison with Ronaldo. However, I will still ride with the Ronaldo comparison. He's that talented. |

I almost lost my head here a few yrs back because of that kind of comment/contribution. I told you i have been following youths football and development for over 3 decades. Welcome to the journey and expect a bumpy ride. |

TheGoodJoe:It does actually, it's Henry he's being compared to but you brought up Ronaldo and am ready to go with the flow. In Europe currently as I type this, he is the best teen out of the lot. I have not committed treason by comparing him to anybody. |

maidaboi:Talent will only get you so far indeed it is not the defining factor. Dedication, Discipline, Diligence, Perseverance, Positive-Attitude, Hard-Work, Focus, will take you very far not just basic talent add to that the Grace of God and you are a winner. Being in Nigeria being in England doesn't matter we all have to battle with different demons. Admittedly the demons in Nigeria are blatant, overt and obvious such as ; favouritism, tribalism, bribery, age-cheating, nepotism, etc, etc. Black boys have to battle with covert clandestine and subtle educated demons of Racism, favoritism, abuse, bribery. Agent - coach arrangements, yes even in England bribery. So what are you talking about its not always green on the other side of the fence. And by your own unit of measurement your tacitly saying that they the English boys are better because they are in England. Talent without dedication and discipline is simply. USELESS. There are more talented boys who are African that didnt make it than those who did. There are many more players better than Ademola that you may never hear of. England is not France where black players rule. |

goldfish80:Comparing champions league appearances in 2 different eras is unfair. The reason Ronaldo didn't score in the in the champions league in his first 4 seasons in Europe, despite playing for Barcelona and Inter Milan and winning the FIFA World player of year twice was because his teams never appeared in the competition. Champions league was a tournament for just the league champions p. With the dominance of PSG in Ligue 1, Monaco and Mbappe would have missed out of the champions league. By the way, the fact that Ajax couldn't beat PSV in both legs of their 1995/1996 league fixtures shoud let you know the quality of the dutch league then. Ronaldo was even the top goalscorer at 18 yrs. The dutch league was no more a one team league than Ligue 1 is now, with PSG's dominance. Nigeria at some point had a player in almost all the teams in that league due to Westerhof connection, i suppose (Iroha, Rufai, Babangida, Finidi, Obiku, Kanu etc) |

Had it been that most of those Nigerian youngsters are springing up from the French, Spanish or German academies, wow! I would be singing a different song. The English youths system is overrated, the earlier you realize that the better. |

Nawa! this home based matter!! ----------------------------------------------------- After Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr announced his 25-man squad to prosecute match friendlies involving Senegal and Burkina Faso, there have been grumblings and outcries amongst some ex-Super Eagles players as well as some quarters of the NFF regarding Rohr’s decision to completely ignore domestic league players in his list, save for a few. The said decision has made various football pundits to be of the opinion that the coach may have been compromised in his selection decisions. All of a sudden, news about Rohr’s contractual extension conditions with the NFF made it to some dailies signalling that a faction of the glass house may already be looking forward to the German tactician’s failure. Working in a football environment full of diverse sentiments may not be a familiar terrain of the German, but I suppose he must have done his homework as to how challenging the top job in Nigeria can be. Many managers have failed to succeed here in the past especially because they could not play the required politics in Nigerian football management, or cope with persistent interference from their employers. Gernot Rohr, on his part, instantly became the bride of Nigerian football, restoring the hope of a footballing nation that have failed in recent times to qualify for literally all recent international competitions – age grade or not. He gained this recognition after he shot Nigeria to the top of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, relegating African powerhouses Cameroon and Algeria to second and third places respectively. Even though the Nigeria senior team did not have the chance to further gel when they missed out of the AFCON in Gabon, the March friendlies put together by the NFF presented Rohr with a chance to get the boys back together after a long break, and possibly test new players for future reinforcement. A look at Rohr’s 25-man squad selection reveal a dominance of players who were part of the World Cup qualifiers. Even the few unfamiliar names, have long been rumored to be considered for the friendlies. With this in view, there have been lots of bickering as to why Rohr ignored promising talents in the NPFL. In my opinion, I believe it would be prudent to leave him alone so he can do the work for which he’s being paid. There is no doubt that he has got it right so far without our domestic players, so why the distraction? Several debates about this issue have been made in various forums, even in the popular Nigerian forum, Nairaland. Hence, I will state five reasons why Rohr is on the right track, and therefore should not be distracted in our latest bid to cheer up Nigeria at the world stage: http://spotkik.com/2017/03/16/march-friendlies-players-selection-why-rohr-must-not-be-distracted/ |

Joebie:I am whole heartedly with Rohr's team selection. The best and most promising talents and professional players are outside this country. Celestine Babayaro that was making comment the other day, how many home-based players played along with him during his hey days in the late 90s? We have gone past that time where Keshi would be reserving 5-7 slots for home-based players! Players should be invited based on merit. If our best 25 players are based in Europe so be it. The home based eagles had a chance to impress at CHAN last year but they showed they lacked substance. Another CHAN qualifiers will commence soon. Let Rohr use that to assess the players. No room for mediocrity. We need the best devoid of allotments and allocations. |

Icon4s:What is Super Eagles materials please Explain please I beg Currently when I look at our hey days we had players in the top teams and top leagues. You cannot be playing moi moi football in one obscure leagues and then jump to Eagles and expect to become great. Your club form generally speaking all things being equal will be replicated in the national team. |

komekn:Comparing apple for apple now. Lets look at players U21 playing for the Super Eagles or are Super Eagles Invitees. I would want you to name Anglo-Nigerian players U21, that are eligible, that you feel can match or surpass them in talent and performance. Like for like in terms of position. Alex Iwobi Kelechi Iheanacho Wilfred Ndidi Isaac Success Oghenekaro Etebo Musa Mohammed Moses Simon Victor Osimhen. I purposefuly excluded Obazee and Ebuehi bc I have not had an opportunity to fully assess them. |

Kog45:To add to what Kog45 is saying. For example, where Dele is concerned he had a very tough start his alcoholic mother incapicated resulting in him being taken into care. His Father had remarried and swaned off to USA at the time he needed him most. Adopted by white family that showed him love encouraged and nurtured him. Is that what you call having it easy because you were born in England. He wil not tell you the racial taunts and discrimination he had to go through to make it. Or because Ademola was born in Peckham that gave him an advantage, no way. He was playing Sunday football three years ago. Or you think Seyi Ojo became successful because he too was brought up in England. Or Ibe who was released by Charlton at 12 and ended up in lowly Wycombe Wanderers before Liverpool bought him for £1 millions 3 years later. All because they were born in the UK. I could give another hundred examples to prove that being born in the UK has Absolutely nothing to do with it. |
