If not for this dollar wahala, I would have ordered for a 5w 12v ceiling fan from eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/12-volt-ceiling-fan

Most are 12w but I saw a 5w fan among the listing

Don't mind renewable energy, theirs is expensive.; it goes for about 26k in other shops. My advice for whomever wants to buy it, is for them to be careful with the regulator as it has a tendency to misbehave.

Hello thread and oga dem in the house...

I've have been a close follower of the thread in anticipation of creating my own setup and it's about time. coolI need to be clear on a few things though.

1. I see you guys mentioning 12v appliances. Why the need for this? I though the ups will convert the 12v current to the standard 220v, abi? (I'm not too knowledgeable on electricity) also, what is the benefit of the 12 voltage appliances

2. My setup will power my laptop (45w), two light bulbs (planning to get energy saving bulbs), phones and torches, 2 ceiling fans (also looking at low energy options), and sometimes my sound system on the lowest volume. How much (estimated) runtime can I get from a 100ah battery?

Thanks!

3. I already have the elite1000 ups from mercury. Can I wire this to a bypass (no kitchen, fridge and ac) of my house? It's a small one bedroom with only the aforementioned appliances.

4. Oga ceejay80s can you help me with purchasing the battery and a 20amps charger? I stay I Abuja, and the price of all these things here are super enormous. embarassed

(1).I hope the ups u are talking about is not the mecury model: elite 650 pro, it won't work , that's why I prefer blue gate, 12v appliances consume less ,it will be difficult to get all appliances in 12v or u go waka tire. 12v appliances can not be connected to ur inverter directly unless u have a 12v to 220v converter adapter.
If the 12v appliance has a red and black wire, u will just need to connect the red to the positive terminal of the battery and the black wire to the negative terminal of the battery, and if connect the red to the negative of the battery ,black to the positive of battery, that appliance will be damaged, so u have to be very careful

(2). Don't include ceiling fan, u can get ur self a 15w-20w rechargeable or non Rechargeable standing fan or buy a 12v ceiling fan , no refrigerator, use energy saving bulbs 5-15w, its best u get a 200an battery

Thanks Bro, now I get the whole 12v thing.

The ups is mercury elite 1000 pro and it uses only one battery.

What are the rules for using stabilizers or surge controllers with the setup? That is at the wall socket where I'll connect the ups and or the charger

I have tested the 650pro mecury ups I mentioned above 2yrs ago and it didn't work, I tied the set up on a neighbors same mecury ups yesterday and it didn't work, which mean the said ups won't work, though II have no tried on other mecury ups, that's why I prefer blugate ups, never connect ur ups or smart charger to a stabilizer, all ups has surge protectors inbuilt,
I repeat: don't plug to a stabilizer

Don't go for 20amp charger, buy 30amp ,it charges faster than 20amp
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by ceejay80s(m): 12:01pm On Mar 19, 2017
This mercury elite 650 pro won't work, this ups only work with small 12v 7ah batteries but when u connect to a 200ah battery, the ups power won't come on, not tested on other models, but this particular model won't work

Hi guys... I just want to drop this energy efficient lamp idea. It may be helpful to sombody:

Its a remodding of this common rechargeable lontor light with 63 LED bulbs to use regular USB source.

The light its self on full power draws about 4.4Watts of power and its quite bright for its Power demand.

Materials needed: Used lontor recargeable lamp (actually any recheargeable lamp should work too), male usb cable, Usb power socket (like phone charger or power bank or cigarettes phone charger for 12v battery), screwdriver, plier... The usual stuff

Step 1...open the lamp, look for the battery and carefully disconnect or cut the battery(s) from the circuit board. Take note of its positive and negative wires and where they attach to to the circuit board.

Step 2.. Connect the male USB plug wire to the points where the battery was cut from or directly to the mother board. Whichever is easier to do.

Step 3...cover the lamp back-cover such that it clamps on the usb wire enough to hold it in place not to spoil the connection done inside but loose enough that the usb wire is not severed into two.

Step 4...connect d USB plug to any usb socket such as phone chargers, power banks, laptop usb socket.

THATS ALL.

Note, dis lamp uses about 4.4watts So to get maximum brightness make sure your USB socket can deliver at least 1000mA of current.

Cheers.

PS: This is my brain child i didnt learn it anywhere. Dnt monetize this info pls. I currently use one In my room. Its so bright and lasts like forever.

The batteries will be removed. I understand his design fully. A general challenge with using DC appliances however, is that Voltage drops over long distances, especially with thin wires, So you may have to use a large diameter wire if you're wiring over a long distance.
