elfico:It's most likely a forgery. This moat existed almost 1,000 yrs ago. I don't believe Islam was in Yorubaland 1,000 yrs ago. There would have been no one bearing Bilkiss to build this moat. Could be a clash of stories or a forgery going on with the historical account. Someone is trying to infuse Islam where it did not exist. This moat was obviously well built. It would have taken a kingdom and many slaves to build. With very capable architects. It's very old but still stands solid. 4 Likes 1 Share |

It is actually an earth wall, was there about 10 years ago,it was suspected to have been built by ancestors of the ijebu people to protect themselves from the invading yorubas from ife. 2 Likes |

stubornnn: Don't talk about things you know nothing about. The modern day 'Jews' of Israel are NOT the same as the Jews of ancient Israel. Modern Israeli 'Jews' are Europeans, from Poland, Russia, Germany, etc. They are 'Ashkenazi Jews' from Europe, who are 'Jewish' by conversion to Judaism, not by blood. The ancient Israelites were blacks and were dispersed and driven away. Most of them fled into Africa. Have you heard of the Lembas? 1 Like |

ElsonMorali:I read it well. Ancient Egyptians are not Yoruba's. They are different people and different civilizations. Ancient Yoruba's are probably closer to the Nok people. Their terra-cotta art is quite similar. Yoruba people had their own civilization. The link provided, I read it and it's all conjecture that is far reaching. They even say *Red Color* in Yoruba is Duden. Red is pupa. Lol.Egyptians were black but they were not Yoruba. 3 Likes |

henrydadon: It's not really about us being helpless. They simply have more money for things like archeological research etc.. If they tell you the annual budget of that Bournemouth University, UK, which sponsored the research, it will probably be half of our entire education budget. But as we get richer and more developed as a country, we will start being able to fund these sort of things. 2 Likes |

stubornnn: Yorubas are actually cousins of Igbos. If you could understand both languages, you would be stunned by how many words and terminologies they share. Both groups consist of migrants to Nigeria from the Nile valley/Middle East. Many Nigerians don't know this, but in ancient times those regions were very heavily populated by black people. 2 Likes |

baby124: First, there was nowhere in my post where I said Yorubas are Egyptians, old or new. Second, of course everything is conjecture, even your own claim of Nok culture, unless you can tell us that you went back in time to find out. In other words no one knows anything for sure. Third, some of the word comparison in the link may sound strange to you, but You'll be surprised that they sound very close to some other Yoruba dialects like Ondo and Ijebu, what we invariably refer to as ede adugbo in Yoruba. So, that you don't recognize it doesn't mean it doesn't exist in Yoruba. Also it could be Ijinle Yoruba, deep or conc. Yoruba. The researcher provides a strong case for his arguments and all I've done is to bring it out for a scholarly discussion. I hope you get that. 1 Like |

ElsonMorali:There are art forms to compare with the Nok culture and Yoruba culture. Yoruba also had a presence in the North but today are as far as Kogi and Jebba. So the possibility of them being descendants of the Nok is quite high. The Egyptian claim is bullshit because most of the Egyptian words have not even been decoded yet. So where did you find all those many words to use as proof. Nutjobs go online creating stories out of the sky that don't exist to twist history. Leave Yoruba out of it. Let us preserve our own history. Ancient Egyptians are in Sudan, not Yorubaland ok? There is nothing like Ijinle kink Yoruba in the color Red. When the attempt at bending so called Egyptian words by Yoruba meanings all seem to be similar to today's popular language patterns. That fake link can not have been created more than 5yrs ago. Your post did infer that Yoruba's must have come from Egypt to achieve the feats they have achieved. That's not true. 4 Likes |

baby124: Yes that's absolutely right. This is 100% African and Yoruba civilization. We need to stop with the Sheba or Egyptian origin of Yoruba culture. Why give middle-easterners credit for the culture and history we've developed on our own. Most of the magnificent Ife sculptures weren't uncovered until the 20th century. There are many hidden secrets and historical gems in Yorubaland waiting to be uncovered. 2 Likes |

9jakool: And to think that since the times of racist explorers like Leo Frobenius and co, there has been no major excavation works in places like ife to uncover centuries of history buried underneath that place. Eredo sef, if not that it was visible from above ground... it would have probably still been there undiscovered. 1 Like |
