Bilikis is an Arabic name for Queen of Sheba. so, it's either the name is a forgery or she actually was the Queen of Sheba which isn't likely considering that Queen Sheba existed long before Sungbo
It's most likely a forgery. This moat existed almost 1,000 yrs ago. I don't believe Islam was in Yorubaland 1,000 yrs ago. There would have been no one bearing Bilkiss to build this moat. Could be a clash of stories or a forgery going on with the historical account. Someone is trying to infuse Islam where it did not exist. This moat was obviously well built. It would have taken a kingdom and many slaves to build. With very capable architects. It's very old but still stands solid.

There is not one single historical artifact as significant as this in the whole of the South East and I guess that's why the Igbos are constantly jealous of Yorubas.... undecided

....heck, they are not even sure whether they're Africans or Isrealites. Shame and inferiority complex has made them to trade their historical culture for a foreign one...

The irony of it all is that the Jews are unrepentant racists that would mostly avoid any genealogical links with black Africans if possible. undecided

Don't talk about things you know nothing about. The modern day 'Jews' of Israel are NOT the same as the Jews of ancient Israel. Modern Israeli 'Jews' are Europeans, from Poland, Russia, Germany, etc. They are 'Ashkenazi Jews' from Europe, who are 'Jewish' by conversion to Judaism, not by blood.

The ancient Israelites were blacks and were dispersed and driven away. Most of them fled into Africa. Have you heard of the Lembas?

I read it well. Ancient Egyptians are not Yoruba's. They are different people and different civilizations. Ancient Yoruba's are probably closer to the Nok people. Their terra-cotta art is quite similar. Yoruba people had their own civilization. The link provided, I read it and it's all conjecture that is far reaching. They even say *Red Color* in Yoruba is Duden. Red is pupa. Lol.Egyptians were black but they were not Yoruba.

Eredo is best appreciated when seen physically. A section of it cuts across Augustine University Ilara Epe, Lagos State. I worked there with some French Archaeologists last may. For the first time, I felt the discipline of Archaeology. We have a lot of history buried under the earth.

Thanks for sharing that. cool

Fastest way to integrate is speak the language, assimilate, adopt the culture and marry into the royal family. Slaves in African culture grew to prominence why not a stranger? It could also be that they had the belief through divination that a savior was to come and save them. Another possibility could be that he was a Yoruba man known to them but from another town. There is no evidence that Oduduwa was much different from the natives. If he was, they would have pointed it out. Yoruba oral history is quite descriptive. They will tag you with something to describe your total strangeness. Could be tribal marking or different language.
Quite true. @Olu317 said something about his fight with Obatala. I hope he gives more details

It's not really about us being helpless. They simply have more money for things like archeological research etc.. If they tell you the annual budget of that Bournemouth University, UK, which sponsored the research, it will probably be half of our entire education budget. But as we get richer and more developed as a country, we will start being able to fund these sort of things.

Does that mean igbos are migrants who should be driven out of Nigeria back to Isreal

Yorubas are actually cousins of Igbos. If you could understand both languages, you would be stunned by how many words and terminologies they share. Both groups consist of migrants to Nigeria from the Nile valley/Middle East. Many Nigerians don't know this, but in ancient times those regions were very heavily populated by black people.

First, there was nowhere in my post where I said Yorubas are Egyptians, old or new. cheesy

Second, of course everything is conjecture, even your own claim of Nok culture, unless you can tell us that you went back in time to find out. In other words no one knows anything for sure.

Third, some of the word comparison in the link may sound strange to you, but You'll be surprised that they sound very close to some other Yoruba dialects like Ondo and Ijebu, what we invariably refer to as ede adugbo in Yoruba.

So, that you don't recognize it doesn't mean it doesn't exist in Yoruba. Also it could be Ijinle Yoruba, deep or conc. Yoruba.

The researcher provides a strong case for his arguments and all I've done is to bring it out for a scholarly discussion. I hope you get that.

If "Nigeria" started 1914, I don't think any of them is an immigrant to it

There are art forms to compare with the Nok culture and Yoruba culture. Yoruba also had a presence in the North but today are as far as Kogi and Jebba. So the possibility of them being descendants of the Nok is quite high. The Egyptian claim is bullshit because most of the Egyptian words have not even been decoded yet. So where did you find all those many words to use as proof. Nutjobs go online creating stories out of the sky that don't exist to twist history. Leave Yoruba out of it. Let us preserve our own history. Ancient Egyptians are in Sudan, not Yorubaland ok? There is nothing like Ijinle kink Yoruba in the color Red. When the attempt at bending so called Egyptian words by Yoruba meanings all seem to be similar to today's popular language patterns. That fake link can not have been created more than 5yrs ago. Your post did infer that Yoruba's must have come from Egypt to achieve the feats they have achieved. That's not true.

If Nigeria was a serious country that would have done serious archeological excavation works around the premises and entire length of this ancient wall, to discover more. In fact the entire city of Ile-Ife is waiting for serious archeological research, and is a treasure trove for historians, waiting to be discovered. Until Oyinbos come and do it for them again, and claim to "discover" it.

why shud dey do serious archeological works on it wen de av oil exploration work to do at bornu, den later de will shout diversification....

I think the story that Oduduwa descended from the sky is generally accepted to be a myth.
It's been long held that Oduduwa came to Ife from the East, with many sources claiming Mecca. And that he met natives in Ife when he arrived. How he was able to reign over them and consolidate his rule is still not clear to me.
I find your story and analysis interesting. Please what are your sources?
I agree that oral traditions were skewed towards a religious point of view, but we cannot throw them away completely.
If you can write more, it would be a pleasure to read.
there is no history in the east or mecca that corroborate the story of oduduwa or his grand father lamurudu ( remember the story claim lamurudu was a king if this was accurate at least lamurudus name would feature prominently in their history)

Nothing like Queen Sheeba. Bilikisu Sungbo was simply a Yoruba woman. Probably wealthy and influential. That wall holds many secrets. Civilizations rise and fall and it's inhabitants learn hard lessons of being prosperous and rich. You attract many dangerous and jealous enemies. So when civilizations fall tragically, people tend to return to more modest and less flashy way of life.

Yes that's absolutely right. This is 100% African and Yoruba civilization. We need to stop with the Sheba or Egyptian origin of Yoruba culture. Why give middle-easterners credit for the culture and history we've developed on our own. Most of the magnificent Ife sculptures weren't uncovered until the 20th century. There are many hidden secrets and historical gems in Yorubaland waiting to be uncovered.
