Perhaps more often than not, I find my folks in the irreligious community constantly throwing pot shots at the people of faith. Since it's obviously not to proselytize (cause I don't think you can convince too many people) about the existence of a supreme being or beings, I feel most people do so as some kind of intellectual Penis measuring contest. It may start with an actual conversation but soon deteriorates into tossing of derogatory remarks. Personally I think it's unnecessary. I'll admit that I've been heavily influenced by the Christian faith and still retain some of my core values and philosophies from the teachings of Jesus. Notwithstanding, I think it's often best to let sleeping dogs lie with theists. I come from a very religious family and I've learnt that trying to assert intellectual superiority or chiding people for their simplistic views on life and faith won't get you very far. My own remedy for theists is to take the best of what their religion offers and discard the rest without being too arrogant about it. I mean, it's not all bad right? Religion has also done some good (anyone remember the nuns of the 60s that taught our parents?). So while I admit am a lazy unbeliever, life is too short particularly when you have no expectations of a hereafter. YOLO |

Am irreligious, but like I said, I've been heavily influenced by the Christian faith. |

Sabergol99 I used to think that way, but I can't deny that the earlier people begin to realize the absurdities in their religious dogmas the better. One of such ways is to use this platform as a means to inform willing minds by contesting(criticising) their claims publicly. So, it's not about the monikers I'm exchanging posts with, it is about those who are ready to be honest in their quest for truth. However, the transition into abusive words are mostly instigated by the theists who in most cases have ran out of sound arguments. Recently, theists on this forum seem to be less concerned about engaging in intellectual discussions. They've observed for a while how their counterparts have lost several arguments, especially those relating to establishing reasonable connection for believing that Yahweh is the creator - if there has to be a "creator". In my own opinion, as an agnostist, religious posits should be anchored on faith and belief alone. It never should be mistaken for factual realities. If any theist agrees to the fact that his/her religious beliefs are only held by faith in the absence of proofs, I see no reason for abuses or prolonged arguments. |

Sabergol99:Christianity is the most annoying religion, how can someone not heavily criticise it? They call you evil, claim they are special when they are nothing, make excuses for themselves when the going is bad, blame and condemn u when yours gets bad. They are hypocritic and selfish. They believe others deserve evil except them. Their self righteousness is annoying, they claim to be good but are nothing near good. They will never allow you to rest, pestering you all over and all the time to follow them in their foolishness. Always making bogus claims they cannot substantiate Nah, i will criticise at any given opportunity. |

ScepticalPyrrho:That's what they don't realize. Put it down to faith and we won't have issues. But presenting it as facts, then we'll have to correct you so that you won't mislead the audience. |

Thrash! Tell me where in the bible Jesus asked Christians to be hypocritical and selfish Or where Jesus asked his followers to pester people. NL is a case study, who seems to be pestering who about religion or God? Obviously the atheists. Why are you in the religious section sir? Is atheism a religion? Very often than not, atheists create threads raining insults and criticizing us about our "non-existent God" and you turn around and accuse us of being the ones criticizing? Exactly what is your problem? frank317: Christianity is the most annoying religion, how can someone not heavily criticise it? Amberon:Let's try to forget the loud speakers booming with drums and screams of hundreds of people in residential areas, or regular visit of your kind on the bus, street, disturbing the peace of peace loving people everyday. I call that harassment. You guys are nothing but nuisance to people. You ain't gonna talk about that are you? You follow a cult blindly. |

Amberon:I only come to Nairaland Religion section to criticize u and u are crying... Well, that's how it tastes... In the bus, radio stations, TV stations, church speakers in our neighbourhood, impromptu crusades in any open space close to our homes, stopping us on the road to preach, in the market places, in schools, early morning preachings (imagine as early as 5.50am), even knocking on our doors... what u see here is just a tip of the iceberg of what we face, i wonder why u feel oppressed by us. I really don't know why Christians are hypocritical, i feel something Jesus said without considering how humanity will handle his words is the cause of this attitude from Christians. That's to show that even Jesus didn't have foresight. |

Sabergol99:Like seriously? Are u trying to be nice to Christians? Well, here is a shocker, the same Christians think you are going to burn in hell forever, they think you deserve it for not believing in their God. If you are still sitting down you are on a loooooong thing. |
