........ ******We arrived Lagos on Sunday evening, i was happy that things were moving smoothly, but i wasnt happy with my uncle, i dont know why he doesn't want my mother and i to be happy, but my God will put him to shame.


Nelson dropped me at my apartment before driving me to the house to tell mummy how things went and the date for the introduction. We arrived and met daddy 's absence, mummy was in her room relaxing, so we went to see her.


I ran and hugged her.


"Mummy, good evening ma"i greeted her

" "Evening, where' s Nelson? "she asked me

I noticed the change in countenance, she didn't bother asking after my mother or how things went in the village, but i thought maybe she was having mood swings,


" He's coming up, he went to get water from the fridge "

Nelson entered immediately

" Mummy why is your face like this"he asked

"What's wrong with my face" she sharply said

She hugged her son

"Thank God you're back,........ I had a bad dream about you." she told him

She didn't talk to me throughout our stay in her room, she ignored me, she focused her attention on her son.


"Nelson, i'm tired and i think i need some rest, you can drop Amaka in her hostel on your way home" she said entering her bathroom

"But mum........ You didnt ask how........." he heard sound of water running out of the tap in the bathroom



" Baby let's go,she' s bathing, i dont think she's in the mood to see or talk to anybody, it's already getting late. "he told me


I was totally lost, mummy always begged me to stay with her, she was always sad anytime i was going back to school, but today, she told Nelson to drop me off. I convinced myself she was having mood swing.

Nelson dropped me off and went home, Chy was already at home, she was cooking, when i returned,


"Mrs Nelson, how are you doing?" she asked hugging me

"I'm fine jare, what happened in my absence", i asked her


" You don't look happy, did Nelson do something stupid?,"she asked me



"Nooo, there's nothing wrong with me," i lied to her

She started waving her fingers at my face,i didn't recognize what she was trying to say


"Dont tell me you're blind that you didnt notice the ring on my finger," she said looking angry

"Ahhhhhh, i'm so sorry dear, i had a lot on my mind,your ring is beautiful, i'm happy for you, have you fixed date?, i asked her.


"Not yet,till when i'm done with my final exams,......... Maybe we'll wed on the same day", she said laughing

"That would be fun,....... i need to shower," i informed her

After bathing, i met Chy busy with her phone,

"your phone has been ringing," she informed

I rushed and checked my phone, i had missed calls from my mother and Nelson

I called my mother and told her how safe our journey was,then i called Nelson


"Baby, hope you're good ", he asked me

"..... Yes,u?"


"You dont sound ok, are you still worried about mum? ", he asked


" Noo, baby pls i'll call you later, i need to rest."

I wasn't feeling OK, i was so worried about mum, i knew something is definitely wrong somewhere


"Helllllooooooo..........."

I forgot i was on the phone

"Baby, good night "i told him

" I'll call you tomorrow "i love you

" love you too."i replied


I I ate the remaining food in the pot and slept off.



TWO WEEKS LATER
Mum has been cold to me, she doesn't call me anymore, the previous month has ended and she hasn't sent my monthly allowance.

I didn't bother asking her about it, i dont want her feeling that i'm disturbing her, i had little money in my account and I 've been managing it.

Thank God Chy has been helping me, though i didnt tell her about the sudden change in mum.

I was about sleeping one night when she called me,

"Amaka, i' m not happy with you...... I dont know why you keep hiding things from me....... I've noticed how cold mum has been to you recently,.......... At first i didnt take it serious,...... But with what is happening now, i cant take it anymore,..... Has she sent your monthly allowance? "she asked me

" Emmm...... Eem..... Not yet, she will still send it", i lied to her

"Keep on lying to yourself,..... She called me to the house today, and told me that she has washed her hands off you, she said you should pack out of her house, and that she wont pay your school fees anymore "she blurted out

Hot tears fell from my eyes, i started sobbing, Chy left our room angrily, i waited for her till midnight but she didnt return, i cried myself to sleep,



It was around 3am that i noticed someone was in the room, i turned and saw Chy sleeping


I tapped her on the shoulder and she woke up

"What is it?"

"Chy pls forgive me, i'm sorry, this is not something i could have told you freely,pls forgive me, such will not happen again"


I started crying profusely, my eyes were red and swollen, she had pity on me and told me to sit down let's talk.

"Amy,pls tell me the truth, did you do anything bad to mummy" Chy asked me

"Noo, i didn't, i swear with my life" i told her

"pls accompany me to the house tomorrow morning, i want to talk to mummy, i want her to tell me what i did to her, i took her like my own mother, i love her so much, i dont know where i went wrong......... Even if i'm wrong, cant she forgive and correct me"?, i was now shaking because i've cried so much


Chy consoled me, we agreed to meet mummy the next morning.

I woke up not feeling too good, but i managed to get up and shower, i lost the appetite to eat. We left very early

We met mum eating her breakfast

"Mummy, good morning" , i greeted her,

She ignored my greetings, Chy gave me sign to calm down,left the dining and waited for her to finish eating before i went to meet her.

"Are you here to pack your things"?, mum asked me

I kept quiet,...... I knelt down immediately and started crying,

" Mummy pls, if i did anything bad to you pls forgive me, i'm really sorry, you know how much i love you and your family, remember you'll soon be my mother in law, this is not a good start for us" i begged her


"You love our money and not us, you accepted my son because he's from a rich home,......... You can never marry my son, i'll make sure i stop him from marrying you, leave my family and i alone, pls go back to your mother in the village and tell her that her charm is no more effective on me"

I couldnt see clearly, my sight was blurred, my head was aching badly, i held my head crying, i held mummy's leg but she didnt look at me at all.

"Mummy when did you suddenly change?, why are you acting like this?, you're really surprising me,...... Take a look at this poor girl crying her eyes out for your love,........ pity her mum..........." Chy tried advising her mother


"All of you should leave my house,...... I have withdrawn paying your school fees,go to your mother and ask her for your fees,make sure you pack your things as you're going today,........ Pls leave my room i need to rest"

" Mummy, did you just ask us to leave your room, or you were joking" Chy asked her

"Leave my room, i dont want to see her again in my life,"

. Chy was angry with her mum, i refused leaving the room, Chy dragged me out of tthe room to the car and drove out.


When i we got home, my body temperature was hot, i was shaking seriously, i couldn't move my feet, Chy helped me into the room.


I was so weak to walk ,my feet was getting cold, i couldnt see clearly again,i heard Chy calling Nelson, she was crying on the phone


.. .. Nelson pls hurry down here, Amaka is dying, she cant breathe properly,i dont know what to do, pls hurry up! "


I was loosing my breath, my eyes was closing slowly.

That was the last word i heard as i closed my eyes and didnt know where i was. I lost consciousness.
