Hey.
You could also mention any IT experience or job experience you have and skill you might have acquired that are related to the course you are applying to.
It would also help to send a draft to someone else to proof read before you submit it...

Bros I find it hard to reconcile all you've said. You've lived in Germany for 22 yrs, did your undergrad and Msc in UK and now in US doing PhD in soft science.
Drive from Louisiana to Houston to eat.

How to view a scammer from afar, trust me chiomalonglegs is a scam, beware!!!!!

andradaeze:

I find it very difficult to understand, in fact inscrutable, why you cannot give these information to everyone on the thread. Everyone wants to hear about how to get funding. From your post, you need people's phone number and email. At first, it was for LSU. Then you encompassed the whole south of USA.

Now, you have lived in Germany for 22 years. And also have information for studying in UK and Germany. Please madam, drop the hidden agenda attitude, prove me wrong and give us all the information pertaining to USA on this thread.

You can always do the German and UK advert on their respective thread. Please do not derail our dear thread.

FYI: No one really does well with criticism, we all deal with it. Please deal with it. Have a good evening.

It's fine ma'am, hope you got the reply?
I have tried to reply you countlessly but I keep seeing that your email address isn't correct. I will just go ahead and reply you here. Please, do not take MGE for granted. I would have prefered you read MGE more. See, the trick to passing PSAF is the past questions. At the end of each chapter of the Ican pack, go to the question aspect and study it very well. You will definitely pass because Ican repeats questions a lot. For MGE, you can't escape, make sure you finish your pack at least once, infact marry your pack. Hope I helped smiley smiley

Good day Dr. X,

I hope this meets you well. I was recently accepted into the department of X and Y at your institution for a Master's program. Yours was at the top of my list so you can understand my excitement on receiving the email.

I am using this opportunity to express my interest in securing a position in the department as a research or a teaching assistant. Apart from the tuition waiver and maybe stipend that the position will assure me of, I am vying for it because I believe it falls within my long term academic ambition to push for a doctoral position in your institution at the conclusion of the masters program and I am convinced that participating in an assistantship will help nuture me into further graduate study.

Let me chime in at this point to state that I am extemely resourceful; time conscious; diligent and above all disciplined enough to more than contribute my own fair share to the success of my program, the department and the University of X or Y as a whole. In fact, when you meet me in person you would agree.

Thank you for taking your time to read this. I will be expecting a response from you Sir/Ma.

Regards,

Topiipii/Andradaeze

You have nothing to lose. They already gave you the admission they cannot rescind it at this point. Besides, they know graduate school is expensive. You can even tell them FX issues in Nigeria will forestall your academic dreams. But waiting by and by will do nothing as they would assume you are OBO.

My Goddness! You're such a blessing to this thread. Look at the piece you effortlessly composed for someone else's predicament.....weldone man!
You are such a good man, helping people here with your talent. I'm seriously praying for your admission with good funding cos you truly deserve such....
I look forward to your testimony soon.

Remain blessed!

Naah. You missed the point. Creating that whatsApp group to address funding opportunities etc. will take people away from NL which is essentially why this thread was created. You can use your whatsApp to contact those in LSU so that you all can meet up, but when you want to discuss gaining admission and funding into LSU or schools in US in general then here is where you need to make such posts and address such enquiries.

So please, your experience is still invaluable to us. Cheers.

This above comment was unnecessary because his post was not addressed to you in particular.

If you are legit. That is good and fine. From my earlier post, I told you to discuss funding tips on this thread. No one told you to stop your LSU Whatsapp group. Anyone who wants to be part of your group can join, we are all adults. We can only advise people but would not stop them. Whatever is the outcome, it is to their personal benefit or loss.

Moreover, you never offered to help this thread but to add people to your personal Whatsapp group which is a private group.

It is good to see that you want to show us that you are for real. But at the same time, do not put individuals down while doing so. That you feel you are up there does not give you the privilege to insult folks here. You would argue that they called you a scam, but at the same time, your vibe came off as one. Your approach to negative situation or comment matters a lot. Be the better person.

I apologize if you were hurt by our comments. We would love to learn from you on this forum.

Shalom

Lol there's no need for the insults, if you're really international as you claim you would know there are better ways to drive home your point without being insultive. Everybody is being careful because issues relating to scams have come up in the past, that's all.

Recently took the GRE.

Big kudos to those who constantly via this thread, sew into our lives. cool (pun intended)
I am equally honored to add my little quota to the existing plethora of information on this thread.

The GRE isn't a test of intelligence (as they say at the beginning of most texts), it is a test of how well you can take the GRE (Cliche right?).

I started preparation about three months ago; getting acquainted with the structure of the exam, reading the tales of those who performed excellently and those who didn't. I also got the necessary materials suggested; magoosh GRE flashcards app and Memrise app; Even though it might seem a daunting challenge to study and remember 1000 new words in a matter of months, these apps ease you into it. IF you assiduously study a meagre 20 words per day(2 words an hour), you would consummate the GRE vocabs in 50 days. Also it helps that these apps are intertwined, so if you exhaust the magoosh word list (which you should), going to another app (say memrise) would be more or less revision. For those who have ample time to prepare, you can also take time to go through word power made easy by norman lewis; it is a thorough book that helps you really understand etymology and co.
Another wonderful app is Ready4GRE; this not only has vocab flash cards, it simulates the real GRE syllabus and walks you through vital topics and concepts which are pertinent to your learning. I also combed through a lot of Sentence Equivalence and Text Completion Questions on various platforms; Manhattan 5lb, magoosh videos, barrons 6 tests, and princeton 1014 questions. I learned new words in the process and further got acquainted with the strategies and formats to tackle questions; the most efficacious being the Process of Elimination (IMO). For the Reading Comprehension; one key to acing this section is a cultivated reading habit. This can be improved by dedicating time to surfing academia texts, aldaily, nytimes, aeon, and the likes- ameliorating reading speed in the process.

For the Quantitative section, this also requires practice. IMO, the quantitative comparison is perhaps the most important; as this incorporates all other concepts (Geometry, Combinatorics, algebra etc). It also makes up 16/40 questions of the test, and is the only section that would strike most as new. I read the books by manhattan on the various topics, revising old & forgotten concepts. I then went on to solve most of the questions in the 5lb pack. After doing this, I still had a major problem with certain topics such as combinatorics and probability (we all do grin) and I went on to nova GRE bible; they had over 100 questions on each topic. I watched magoosh videos too; learning short cuts and more basic concepts. The Ready4GRE app also had a myriad of really tough questions that was a similitude of the actual exam.

I practiced the Analytical writing section with each practice test; so I had a rigid format, and I was a becoming a virtuoso in the art of using linking words and GRE vocabs. I also went through the question pool during leisure; taking time out to generate at least three points for each question.

The test day was overwhelming!
I had QVQVQ; my dream format, and I proceeded to tackling the question. I cannot overemphasize the effect of adequate practice. I had almost no problem with pacing, even though I saw a few TOUGH traps disguised as questions. I was not so lucky with the verbal section. The Devil himself assisted ETS in setting the questions. Even the TC and SE I though I was good at, they proved to be too hot to handle. I barely had time to finish my last RC set and I had to make lucky guesses. I then had my break; quickly devouring my meal and from my conversation with other test takers, ETS was just in a bad mood that day. The second quant was quite tougher as expected, and I did my best and readily moved on to the verbal section; which seemed relatively easier, same as the last Quant.
I reported scores; 163Q, 157V.
Sent scores to four schools (major key).
And I left feeling elated.

I can't but appreciate the likes of Sirriddy, Time2Smile, topiipii, OGreene, fredoricko, iekene, scholastica16, happyday, Alan (I cant spell that your long german name ) et al. for taking time out to give encouragement, tips and advice. God bless you guys real Good!

Pardon my verbose epistle and malapropist use of recondite and esoteric words. I barely saw 20 words on the exam; and I dont know what to do with the rest of the words in my head.
tescoman90, ezeeche, temmitarts, et al. You are next folks!
