Sincerely it's never a crime to graduate with a 3rd class,especially in the ever competitive and challenging School/Faculty of Engineering in any Varsity.
However it's nothing to be proud of.

Nothing can substitute hardwork while on and out of campus. Let's encourage our wards/siblings to graduate with good grades.If the lowest class of degree surfaces,let it not be for laziness on the part of the students but circumstances uncontrollable.
You don't want to experience the outright descrimination and rejection of this class of grade in a saturated labour market.
Civil Engineering is a nice course. Expand your opportunities and impact by developing yourself.

Our Society

1st Class - Most go into Research, Continues studies end up a lecturer. Some will work for a blue-chip company

2nd Class Upper - Joins a company and begins work. If lucky, a blue-chip company

2nd Class Lower - starter-up, begins a business if lucky ends up with a very profitable company that employs 1st class and 2nd class upper grads

3rd Class - Not much prospect so goes into politics, unionism etc.

If you read my other comments you would have seen where i said he should go and improve himself, I was harsh because he was proud to have a 3rd class. I have a cuz staying with me that made 3rd class do you think i denigrate him, he is ashamed and remorseful that he bleeped up education wise and he went to a 300k per year university.

I have enrolled him to do his masters but you know he has to do pre degree courses b4 he is accepted. If he made 2:2 at least it would have been easier.

These are the challenges he faces cuz of his degree. There is something called tough love and that is d route i took with the OP.

Because in most cases, employers don't collect applications from the Third Class graduates. This is because, they're already labelled as unserious type.

Actually he/she isn't stupid for aligning with someone of comparative academic standing for their benchmark of success since success in its entirety goes far beyond academic excellence

However, the stupidity comes from he/she believing they will equally get the same chance like Dino whom in all ramifications was elevated by the corrupt system to a position beyond his capacity

In a nutshell, the 3rd class didn't get him where he is today ....end off!!!!

It is not their fault that most end up with poorer grades because SO many things bedevil them in the quest to acquire a degree. I know about 4 of my set who were never serious in school but are doing far above many who read too much and took this certificate as key to a fulfilled life, which didn't quite happen.

One thing about most with such grades is that they are often more determined because the odds are stacked against them than those with better grades, or how did Dino emerge as governor and now a senator? This is Nigeria my brother! WAKE UP!

Seriously? In Engineering the difference is approach. If a unique and unfamiliar problem is introduced into the system, the difference between the intelligent students and the rest of the class is there approach.
Having 3rd class in most cases relates to intelligently backward individuals but in very few cases is having square pegs in round holes.

Because, politics was usually the best place for people like him to make it in life. If he's industrious, he could try business too.
No employer wants to employ Third Class graduate. Not because he's having third class printed on his Certificate but it is an indication that he was an unserious individual.
