Pls mamas, pls advise this concerned new mum my baby is 6weeks old and I am doing exclusive breastfeeding. I dont have appetite to eat well since I gave birth but my breast milk flows very well, now people are advising me to add water and formula. He poos like thrice or twice a day. His birth weight was 3.7kg at the hospital last week he weighed 5.2kg at 6weeks. Is my baby ok? Should I add the water and formula? Experienced exclusive breastfeeding mums pls advise me.

Chanbaby, if you have energy to continue exclusive, pls do. Your baby is fine. Start taking multivitamin to bring back your appetite and rest well. Plenty pap and milk , then swallow better semo or EBA or amala grin
And yes I am exclusively breast feeding too

Your baby's weight is fine,
He has put in 1.5kg in 6 weeks. That is very impressive. My baby put on about 1kg per month for the first 6 months and i was told that for an exclusively breast fed baby that is fine.... if she was on formular they would have been concerned that she was being overfed and asked me to reduce the feeding.

Your baby's pooing is fine.
Their systems will keep adjusting as they grow. Even if he poos up to 6 times... as long as he is feeding well, being active and putting on/ retaining weight. It is nothing to worry about.

I will just add that YOU need to make sure you eat and eat healthy so you know your baby is getting all the goodness from the milk. You may not have the appetite but you need to force yourself to eat for his sake, and yours as well. Breast feeding takes a lot calories and energy... make you no fo faint for road one day.

If you decide to add water and formular that is fine as well, but not because you are being bullied or pressured into it or you think your baby is not doing well.

He is 6 weeks already which is when it is advised to wait till if possible, to introduce a bottle/ pacifier so as not to cause nipple confusion as breast feeding should have been well and truely established.

Thanks zaynie.she just finished her malaria drugs yesterday.although we sucessfully took 4 out of 6. Its suspension so she throws up d liquid . her paracetomol not so much. But i substitute replacing a dose with tepid sponging.so it brings down the fever.
The cough syrup aint seeing any effect at all.maybe i go back to the palmoil solution. Cattarh has reduced.i tink the piriton helped

She is still playful thru this all.shes only dull when her temp spikes.
Watching her till monday since she jus finished her malaria drugs.if fever still continues am going to a paed. Straight.i dont mind private consultation.

Thanks.pls can i get paed as first consultation in the gbaja hospital.can u send me their addy.maybe a pm or a mail.

God bless you.

You'll get to see a Paed on your first consultation cos it's a hospital for maternal and child care so ALL the doctors there are ob/gyn or Paed.
I'll send you a pm.

Please when can one start using bouncer and baby carrier?

Most baby carriers are from birth but some people wait a few weeks first.... few things to note wih baby carriers:
Baby must be facing you till at least 6 months.
Ensure it has a neck support for newborns.
Check the weight limits- some can be used till like 15 kg.
Check carry modes: front carrying - parent facing, front carrying - outwards facing, back carrying ( usually from 12 months only.
Check the straps are wide and study so that they distribute babys weight evenly across your shoulder and waist. And also hy are easily adjustable.

If you are very short or very tall some baby carriers are not ideal as the position of the waist straps will never be in the right location for you. For instance baby bjorn brand is fantastic but if you are like 5ft, it doesnt work quite well. Some other brands are great on shorter/ slim built people and are fine for the mothers but are a nightmare for the dads if they decide to use it. So consider this as well .

For bouncers: most are also from birth. Although many people wait a few weeks as most bouncers are inclined and for a newborn it looks a bit uncomfortable.

Some bouncers have a lay flat setting which is best for newborns so you may want to get one that can do that.

Also most bouncers have a weight limit and many children out grow it by 9kg which can be anything between 6 - 9 months . A few bouncers can be used till 18kg usually called innfant / newborn to toddler and this in my opinion gives you better value for money as they can be used for longer.

Dear mama in the house, please I need advise from experienced mom oh. My daughter is having peeling lips and I took her to the doctor and the doctor said I should be given her water which I did but this morning I saw that the upper lip has a stain of blood. Immediately I let her suck and it left there but am worried.
Also, at her back she's having some rashes for a long time which I have used all I know but the thing is still there.

Since you work on the island you can check out Laterna on Oko Awo street in vi. They have a children's section seperate from the main store with montessori products and it's quite affordable

Akorkor the pix looks like dry skin to me. You have also described chaped lips. Is she well hydrated? You can increase her water intake and rub some coconut oil on her skin and lips.

@Akorkor, my daughter use to to have the Heat rash thing at her back that would later become scaly and peel off. I took her to the pead and was told to give her more water and he prescribed Aveeno baby wash and shampoo, and Aveeno eczema therapy. I got the was and shampoo at Julie pharmacy in Ikeja but someone got the eczema cream for me. It worked and it stopped.
Coconut oil would make her sweat and itch.

PS; I also got dried fruit leaves boiled it and use it in bathing her now. Pls make sure she is well hydrated.

Akorkor it's baby ezcema. Get any range of baby products designed to treat baby ezcema and she would be fine. Coconut oil might not be sufficient to treat it.
Aveeno or Shea moisture have some good products.
We use E45.

AkorAkor my baby reacted to the coconut oil my sis -in-law bought and had rashes all over his body. So I was advised to use aveeno body wash to bath him and apply Aquaphor or Eucerin on the affected area. I used Aquaphor and it worked well

For the peeling lips, use lanolin based nipple cream on it. Lansinoh is a good brand. it is a great moisturiser and fantastic lip balm.

for the skin issue - try what other mamas have suggested.

Get a lip balm for babies. Or use Shea butter. Make sure you apply it often. Keep her hydrated too.
For her rash, do you cover her up all day? Is there cross ventilation in your sleeping area? It seems she has a really dry skin.... Abi Na my eyes?
