This organization will be his/their voice to get attention and cause more conflict. I want to have public holidays that are relevant TO ME not based on moo sighting and such like.

The vision would be quite simple if you work for the Federal Government you would be entitled to X number of public holiday breaks in a year and you can use the how you like I do not see why Christians should stop working on Muslim Holidays ad vice versa. In fact as a Christian you could choose to use Your public holidays another time.So the point is to force governmennt to think of the cost of so many public holidays and strealine them keeping governmen running all through the year.

I applaud the formation of the atheist society of Nigeria as long as it purely remains a vehicle for humanist change in Nigeria and espouses humanist ideals. If it ever becomes less about that and more about the ideas and desires of a select few it becomes like the religious institutions we dislike.

I really don't get how pple fear and consider the possibility of dark forces/powers but don't believe there's a corresponding opposite force....as for me...I would rather graduate with a first class or 2:1 than assume grades doesn't matter and all jobs are gotten with connections.

If their goal is to make money they will open a Church. Everyone can be a Christian any way. No one in his/her right mind see atheism as a money making venture, especially in Nigeria. It isn't 99% there are a lot more agnostics and atheists around than most people recognize but there's a stigma to saying that religion is nonsense in Nigeria.

Thankfully times are changing and hopefully the power of the various religious organization will subside and allow for rational thought and progress to take hold. Nigeria needs it. We can all see what religion has caused in Nigeria, this petition is a good step in the right direction.

As someone who is irreligious i don't support this. We are not different from the religious institutions we condemn if we do this. We don't need a union or anything, In fact they is no "WE". The whole essence of being an Atheist is to be rational, To be logical, To be a freethinker. We don't need anyone to think for us not even fellow atheists. A science organization should petition the Medical society not the atheist. Soon the so called Atheist society would be marred in Bureaucracy typical Nigerian fashion, The higher ups would be honour and revere like pastors or religious leaders, The rest of the atheists will have no choice but to accept whatever decision the higher ups make. They would be seen as the representation of atheism in Nigeria. And then a new religion would be born, all what we have condemn. But all in all this is progress, only in the wrong manner.

I used to think like this before, maybe this is your point of view as an atheist but not all atheists should have the same point of view. Eradicating religion isn't our goal, Not mine at least.

There are different categories of people who gather under the cloak of atheism. There are intellectual atheists, reactionaries, substitutional atheists and militant aethists.
