There's different between assembling and manufacturing, those weapons assembled by the Igbo engineers not manufactured because no chance to imports them that's why they imported the parts and assembled them, that's the point of correction. |

Ritchiee:Ojukwu was actually pushing for a Confederation and it had been agreed at the Aburi conference in Ghana, but Gowon decided to go against the agreement when he returned to Nigeria.... In my own view, i think that civil war could have been avoided... Gowon and Ojukwu made very grievous mistakes... |

Alariwo2:It is common knowledge that Biafra produced most of her weapons during the war.. Let me also remind you that Nigeria was not using the naira before the outbreak of the civil war.. The country was still using pounds and when Gowon directed the central bank to change currency, it effectively left the entity called Biafra broke.... That was one of the biggest blows that Gowon struck against the Ojukwu led Biafra and it affected biafra thru out the war.. |

The hatred for Igbos by afonja is unfounded, baseless, unjustified and uncalled for. However, it is quite understandable cos igbos are ambitious and goal getters. So the feelings of the Yorubas towards the igbos is born out of envy. In the area of education they claim to be ahead which a fallacy, a lie and a figment of one's imagination. Igbos had a large pool of educated people and it is no reason they occupied all sphere of the Nigerian society before the war. It may surprise you to know that the Universities of Ibadan and Lagos had igbos as their first VC's Prof Kenneth Dike and Prof Eni Njoku because the best suited for the position cud easily be drawn from among the igbos. In the senior and middle cadre of the military were Igbos which they lost after the 2nd coup. Infact based on merit igbos were more and this drew envy and animosity from other tribes who felt threatened. Fedrick Forsyth an Irish journalist in his book about Biafra said that d mass exodus of Igbos from the north to the east following the pogrom in 1966 resulted in a dearth or shortage of skilled manpower across the country. Look at JAMB, the highest number of applicants has been from Imo state for the past 20 years. The cut off mark for common entrance for entrance exams into Unity colleges for Imo and Abia states is the highest cos of the high level of performance. Anambra state touted by people from the far west of the Niger River (afonja)are also not sleeping. Best WAEC performance from the east. Look at state and federal universities if u will not see igbos occupying very sensitive skill oriented positions. In the oil and gas yorubas may be in administrative but the technical jobs are the igbos. Looking at the civil war it wud be unfair not to give credit to the igbos. Biafra was a country completely under air, sea and land blockade yet withstood federal might for 30 months is no small feat. Ask the mighty Germans what a blockade was for them in 1944 and just surrendered in 1945 less than a year. The ingenuity of the igbo man made them to develop refinery when Port Harcort was lost to the vandals, the developed ogbunigwe, ojukwu beer or bottle bombs, land mines, rockets which dealt devastatting blows to federal troops. All was done by a team of scientists, engineers & technicians called the BIAFRA SCIENCE GROUP. If u doubt the technological prowess of the igbos pls take a trip to the NATIONAL WAR MUSEUM UMUAHIA ABIA STATE and see with your eyes. Seeing they say is believing. For most yorubas many of whom grew up in the west, did pry sch in the west, high sch in the west, university or polytechnic or college of edu in the west, NYSC in the west, work in the west, marry in the west and die in the west u are not in a position to compare. Infact many have not seen the River Niger or the bridge that crosses it. Yet these are the ones that wud compare themselves with igbos. Ok you fought to keep Nigeria one in the war omly to fall under the domination of the north was it worth it? A Nigeria whose political position and oil wealth controlled by the north that made the likes of TY Danjuma and co rich for genrations? This Nigeria as it is was it worth the blood and sweat? Even Lt Gen Alanni Akinrinande said he regretted his role in the war. The same with Brig Alabi Isama in his book The Tragedy of Victory. See how the electoral machinery of the north denied Awolowo and Abiola the position of the presidency. Have the yorubas who condemned Igbos for attempting to seceede realize that the first people to talk of secceding were the northerner in 1966 during the infamous "Araba riots" in 1966? Do they also realize that Gideon Orkar did same in 1990? You can google it and see his speech which was due to control of the nation's wealth by a cabal in the north? IF THE OIL WELLS WERE IN THE NORTH CUD ANY SOUTHERNER DARE TO OWN A DROP OF OIL TALKLESS OF AN OIL WELL? It is this mutual hatred among the south that makes it possible for the north to dominate. I give credit to the Prof Wole Soyinka. He stood out. I doubt if he has yoruba blood flowing in his vein. His stand for Biafra in the 60's which led to his incarceration based on the principle of justice deserves to be commended. He has maintained that stand cos while yoruba bigots condemned Achebe for writing his book " There was a country" he never did cos he rose above tribal sentiments. |
