A close look at some of the abandoned aircraft has revealed that many have deteriorated beyond redemption such that they can only be sold as scraps to aluminum smelters or iron and steel factories at peanuts.

After spending billions of Dollars to establish NITEL, the company died. The Western countries that manufacture mobile phones still can't do without landline telephones. Nigerians now do with toys called mobile phones.

Okada Air was established in 1983 and had 18 BAC One-Eleven 300s on its books by 1991.

The following year saw the company launch a range of international services, but by 1997 Okada Air had ceased to exist.

Its abandoned airliners were subsequently parked up and left to languish at Benin City for more than a decade.

Legend has it that Chief Igbinedion was used as front for Lt Jeremiah useni to launder some embezzled funds of which part was used to establish the Okada air. Now it came to a time when Chief Igbinedion refused to play ball with the General in respect to the funds and so, the General grounded the airline on his first day as minister for aviation.
