Okada Air was established in 1983 and had 18 BAC One-Eleven 300s on its books by 1991.

The following year saw the company launch a range of international services, but by 1997 Okada Air had ceased to exist.

Its abandoned airliners were subsequently parked up and left to languish at Benin City for more than a decade.
bro u try o, but okada or igbenedion air was launched in 1997 not 1983 at all.

In 1985 Nigeria Airways had 17 planes.

Emirates had only 3 planes.

In 2017, Emirates has 256 planes, it is now the largest airline in the Middle East, operating over 3,600 flights per week from its hub at Dubai International Airport, to more than 154 cities in 81 countries across six continents.

Nigeria Airways has none.

I weep for my country Nigeria, is it a crime to be born Nigerian....

Today Emirates is the highest operator of the Airbus a380...the biggest passenger airplane in the world

THIS IS SERIOUS. FEEL LIKE CRYING.
Lets face it, crying won't solve the problem. It's business as usual for these old men; all politics zero governance. If the youths of this nation can't speak with one voice, let's split for good. The time to act is NOW.

We all know things have gone horribly wrong in the last 3 decades, but what's our generation doing with the vast amount of knowledge we have now? Complain, support the same set politicians that put us in this predicament, lament without proffering solution, abuse other tribes, waste valuable time on social media on subject with absolute no national interest, joke about serious issues, get involved in get rich quick scheme, continue suffering and smiling etc.

Everybody is feeling emotional on this thread about how the aviation sector in Nigeria is abysmal. How could a country of almost 200 million people, the most populous black country in the world, the country with one of the most travelled citizens in the world not have a national carrier? If you ask Nigeria youth what they think the solution is, they start flexing muscle on which tribe is better than which, or start singing praises of the same politicians that ruined everything.

Until Nigeria youth start thinking of how to make this country great by their actions, we will continue crying, and things will continue to get worse.
Brother may God bless you richly. You have spoken well. Our children yet unborn will say same about us (the youths of today) tomorrow if we don't act now. Its a wake up call for we the youths. This country was indeed great just can't tell how it all got this bad.

The followers are goners. The followers are the tribalists the namecheckers and those who sell their vote for a cup of rice. Our only power is in our vote..yet our vote is our biggest weakness.

What can we do to remedy the situation?
Can we share knowledge and information to reduce the impact of the problems that you have rightly identified above?

nigerians do not really appreciate knowledge and information. It is the irrelevant things that tickle. What info can you give a man who is ready to go to war if his tribesman does not get a political post? even if such person has no good intention towards his people. every single attempt to fix this country is negated a thousand times by these politicians- with huge backing from us the citizens. So what are we saying

Do you think that Britain was different from this some centuries ago?
How did they change?
We should continue to make our own contribution for progess.

society today is blessed with technological advancement, education, e.t.c and we can easily examine and practice good governance. That idea of america is 200+yrs is bs. Younger democracies are doing better almost catching up to world powers, na only us dey retrogress. We do not have to be 200years before we start doing the right thing.

Don't make the mistake the people who grounded those planes made. It's not about which tribe they are from, it's about the ingenuity that the boys in Aba are known for.

Guy na u try cos Okada was launched 1983. I first boarded Okada Air from Benin to Lagos in 1986 this I can recall very well

Why not gather all these planes then transport them to Ekiti or Anambra? Those ones are building new airport/airport village (whatever that is...) respectively.
They could convert those airport plans into a massive aircraft museum that will be a great source of income for the host state.
If you visit Cotonou airport too, you will see almost the same view. Meanwhile in the west, you can never see such dead weights hanging around the airports. When planes take off and land seconds apart...We are really wasteful in this part of the world.

A sad narrative of what Nigeria could have been and what it has eventually become.

And yet some old men who have no future think we shouldn't sit down and plot a new narrative for the future.
When majority of the youths become tired of low waist, wizkid and davido, bet9ja, man utd /chelsea, pdp/apc and afonja/Igbo, tboss pierced nipple . Then Nigeria will have a chance of being great. As for now, we are plotting a new path and that is deeper into the abyss of mediocrity.

They had better bomb those aircrafts cos I know that some of our greedy leaders or contractors will pay a visit here and overhaul them and pocket the remaining money thereby putting people's life at risk. I can bet that some of the so called new aircrafts came from here
