You forgot to include the fact that; They easily die in the North, they easily kill them in the land of Wike and Amaechi, Some are being raped by some southwest traditional rulers, Abokis and Alhajis use some female member for money ritual abuna etc. The demerits far outweight the merits. Regionalism and True Federalism is the way to go. Restructure now!

After the Nigeria Civil war, the NYSC scheme was created to reconcile, reconstruct and to rebuild the country.

After the Nigeria Civil war, the NYSC scheme was created to reconcile, reconstruct and to rebuild the country. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was established on the 22nd May, 1973. NYSC was established with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity.

Recently, there have been rumours that the NYSC scheme has been scrap by the federal government. Even though it was a rumour, many people would love to see it happen. Today, we will be telling you five funny reasons why NYSC should not be scrap. DO Not Forget to Join corpersforum.com

1. Cultures/ Tradition
Do you know most youths have not travelled out of their state of origin or resident? Scrapping NYSC will prevent most youth to experience or learn other cultures. I recently finished my NYSC program of which I served in Anambra state. I can vehemently tell you that knowing the culture and tradition of the Anambrans changed my orientation towards the Igbo people and increased my love for business. There is always something you will learn from other cultures and traditions.

2. Alawee
#19,800? That's too small! Only feeding will consume more than half of it! I won't lie to you, I also complained about the money. But do you really think if NYSC is no more, you can get 19800 every month after finishing school considering the Nigeria economy? This small alawee has saved many youths from begging money from parents, uncle, friends after school. I can tell you that many youths don't even get up to that alawee in a month after finishing their NYSC. Do you know the money most people saved from their Alawee is what they use to survive after NYSC before their dream job? It might be funny to you, but it is true.

3. Life Partner
I don't need to tell you that many people met their lost rip during the one year NYSC program. I can still remember the song we sang at orientation camp ''When corper marry corper them go born ... wink''. So many married people met their partner at the orientation camp, some at their PPA and some even met theirs in the host community. A lot of persons might not see their missing rip if NYSC is scrap- funny but true.

4. Job Opportunities
We have talked about Cultures, Alawee, and Life partner, let's Talk about Job opportunities. During NYSC program- Most graduates are fortunate to work in an organization where they are being retained after the one year program. Apart from your PPA, there can also be several job openings in the community or state where you served. Scrapping NYSC will deprive so many of job.

5. Experience
NYSC program serves as a good platform to gain experience. 70% of corps are being posted to schools which is also a good place to gain experience. I don't need to tell to include it as experience in your CV.

It should be scrapped. Some parts of the country, especially the North, benefits more from it than others. I have friends who served in schools in some Northern States. In many of these schools they have practically no teachers. The only teachers are the corpers. Meanwhile the school has a budget for payment of teachers salaries which is approved by the Local Government, but the school principals will lie to the corpers that they cannot afford to pay their salaries. The unfortunate corper will now be forced to depend on his meagre allowance to make ends meet.

The risk such as death at the hands of Islamic extremists and other evil elements also makes serving in the North a potentially dangerous experience.

I agree with you hook line and sinker.I also respect the opinion of those who are indifferent. My take is that launching a fresh graduate into the labour market without a year of reappresal will be catasclymic. The Nysc is the best platform for rediscovery and a soft landing into the labour market.I learnt alot from the scheme and would love to see it outlive all of us.The stipend though little is what a lot of coppers have saved to start businesses of their choice and free themselves from poverty and burden to parents. To me every other points is very valid. There is no reason to me for scrapping the scheme.Nysc gave the rare opportunity of travelling for the first time across the Niger from Kaduna to the west I have never travelled that far.I now appreciate the culture of the west more than before. We have every reason to sustain it and improve on the scheme make it better and more interesting.Above all the security of precious lives of cop members is very important.

It shouldn't be scrapped for just one reason: it was born from prophesy given by Pa SG Elton, a british missionary. It is the will of God for Nigeria.

Except of course the time for it in God's calendar has elapsed.

Reasons it should be scrapped

1. It's time wasting, after graduation, graduate should go and start looking for money, and shouldn't depend on 19500

2. The scheme is enriching some corrupt individual in govt

3. The scheme is yaga yaga

4. My light scheme went to serve in North, she came back with different colors. Wtf, I broke up the relationship immediately

5. I'm not ready to go and serve Nigeria for one year, when my mates are making money. Have been serving Nigeria since birth. What else

What is the guarantee that every graduate will have something to do within that same year if the scheme is scrapped? Aside that, the scheme affords a lot of people the chance to gain working experiences, not to talk of the social benefits .

mr man you fail to convice me..

where dem dey travel go?..me and you both know the amounts of death recorded alone this year from nysc members..please tell me if dem post you go borno state or any other northern state would you like to go?

you talk about finding a pather ..you can find your pather any where..go to any shopping mall and you will find women who are looking for husband

the stupid 19800 that they are been paid cant even cover the trip to and fro to where they are travelling to..not to mention the risk of accident and lack of security and proper health care..

people die everyday.
Why theirs become a public matter is because they were serving at the time of their death.
What about those that die while schooling? why is there no much fuse about it? would you say going to university should be scrapped too?

I just passed out last week and I can say to the world that I enjoyed my service year. At a point I didn't want the service to finish but one has to move on to other stages of life.

You say 19,800 is too small? do u knw how many graduates are on the street today after service? no job! no source of income! not even the so-called meagre 19,800! do you realize a lot of corpers depend on just that 19,800 no other source of income.

I rest my pen!!!

One reason why it will not be scrapped, there are lots of educated thieves looting massively from it.

Three reasons why it should not be scrapped:
Some people will lose their jobs
It gives opportunity to explore different cultures and parts of the country
Most graduated are not immediately ready for employment after leaving school, it's more like a preparatory process, if done rightly.

tell me which country in the world I doing something similar to nysc it may shock you that none!

in this age of job creation where young pple need to get engaged with something meaningful has been a challanege for govt all over the world ......

if a young chap heads to the bank after ur nysc to get a loan u may barely get any. if govt can use their sense and giv every graduate 19k. x. 12
months to start up a business it would be better than this ceritifcate jamboreee nysv we carry on our head. that is to say even if govt gives every body almost 250k not evry one may be a success story some may opt for a 9 to 5 but it would solve unemployment after uni by more than 50percent

nice, but to be truthful...
1. if any govt is interested in promoting their culture there is room for developing and promoting their respective tourism industries, why do we have ministry of culture and tourism
2. minimum wage....supposedly for unskilled labour is more than 19k, and like you said its barely enough to survive, and you say it saves some from begging? okay so after the one year of "service" would they still beg
3. life partner...realy?? the "rip" rib u found in school got missing again?
4. job opportunities...people would definitely still get employed without nysc as long as there is the need for service, nysc didnt create the job for corpers.
5. experience...just like the above points would come along the line.
nysc is just an excuse for laziness on the part of the govt...it would have been more profitable to train graduates in alternate skills and provide capital for start up biz rather than paying 19k monthly with no economic benefit besides cheap labour.

You learnt Hausa during your service year then returned back to your village to start asking who Hausa help? SMH.
Why didn't you remain in the north and proceed for job search? Hausa language knowledge is currently a big selling point for today's graduate.

Thanks For Your Enlightenment. Notwithstanding, I Must Say That No Material Gain Or Achievement Is Worth Loosing A Life Ask Those Who Are Victim Of The Scheme. Talking About Unity Promotion, that; Is Long Maimed, ask Those From South East & South South When Last They Saw Corp Member That's From The North, even The Yorubas We See Are From Close States. Talking About Employment Generation As A Scheme,i Tell You It Has Never Been Reputable Institute, rather Patching Jobs, All Still For Sustainance, salary Scale Of 30-40k If You Are Lucky & Even If It Be A Reputable Organisation I Can Tell You That Of The Total Populace That Passes Out Yearly, not Up To 5% Are Retained I.E A Total Of 95.4% Get Back Home (exclude De Deceased),alright, per Meeting Your Rib(marriage Cases),most Person's Who Get's To Nysc & Are Up To The Age Of Marriage Had Spouses Already Programmed For Eventuality B4 Leaving Except The Babes Who Go Flet Their Loins To A Finished State & Returned Sucked.May I Add That Even If It Be Its Just 2%
