this is one of the reasons why you shouldn't criticize entrepreneurs as it is obvious you are afraid to go into the real sector.
But i think it's high time people began to worry about this high interest rate for the bubble might eventually burst one day because all those interest has to come from somewhere
yea I understand your fears, u feel one day Nigeria will go broke and be unable to repay them debts right?

Well presently a speech from a world bank spokesperson also share same view. it is said that they(world bank) don't think that Nigeria has even revenue to meet its INTEREST payments seeing how much debt we had been accumulating and Yet to still accumulate. So its okay to worry coz in the long run it spells dom but then how does Nigeria generate funds to pay back?
- Print more money
- Increase the revenue generated

Kemi adesoun has decided to follow the option of increasing revenue, how?
By Increasing the Tax-net to capture in more people. Statistics say only 22% of companies pay tax in Nigeria , so we can start from there.
Also seeing how mean this govt can be at times. If they fail to capture more coys into their tax books, they may as well increase the tax on those complying to increase revenues. Talks have been going on , on how to increase our VAT.

U know naija, they can just bring up one funny policy, like they increase car import duty or increase the taxes on purchasing luxury products like champagne or jets....all these are in a bid to increase the generated revenue to meet the debt obligations.

just so you know, According to a sentence made by The former Cbn gov (lamido sanusi) He says ; Nigeria spends 66% of her revenue on debts alone.

So u have every reason to be concerned bruh! in the long run, we either increase the revenue or borrow less .make we no compound our woes, or bad as e bad we print more money if water wan pass garri (Inflation tendencies tho if this happen) lool

Nice one.
I think the borrowing at interest is a way of 'printing' more money without having to incure cost of physical printing. After all, this is already a cashless economy.
Nigerians need to be wary of the external influence of imf and World Bank.

lol @ external influence, after all the "waka" Nigeria did regarding loan from IMF / world bank, it was just approved recently so they have to proffer solutions and tell us when to step up before their loan offered go enter voice mail like Greece, lol

as for the printing money in relation to interest borrowed, I agree with you on that

I will rather use the money for call deposit at least for the 2 weeks, instead.

who do you think will bear the tax burden in the end(you and i of course)
Also,do you think we can just be printing money like that (i think you should go and research about Zimbabwe currency crisis where they printed currency domination in millions and those millions could not even buy bread)
The economy is not a rocket science

Why do you think most of this European countries offers rates of zero percent despite some of them with high inflation

Even the US was severely hit around 2008 owing similar things (rate) Nigeria is doing now

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Gazelle22: 6:27am On Apr 23, 2017
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday rejected calls by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Nigeria to float the Naira.

CBN’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, who said this on the sideline of the ongoing IMF/ World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC, noted that the Nigerian government has no intention of ‘killing’ Nigerians through undesirable monetary policies.

Mr. Okorafor, reacting to calls for the Naira to be floated, noted that it made no sense for the country to introduce a policy that will ‘kill’ Nigerians.

”Our economy has its own peculiarities, and we cannot kill our people in the name of floating the naira,” Mr. Okorafor said, adding that the Nigerian market is extensively liberalized already and the call to float the naira is unnecessary.

”Yesterday, when Madame Lagarde (IMF boss) was discussing the economy of Egypt, she lamented the devastating inflation that is in that country,” he noted.

“Egypt has half of our population, Egypt receives about $12 billion in foreign aids and several billions in tourism. We are 180 million people, our infrastructure is so poor and the productive capacity cannot be fast enough to rise to benefit from massive depreciation.

“If you float the naira today, and given the discoveries by security agencies, you’ll discover that our case will be terrible.

“ If Egypt today has an inflation rate of almost 31 per cent, remember Angola also has about 36 percent inflation, ours is at 17.26 per cent.

Mr. Okorafor, according to TheCable, also said that there is no country that floats its currency by just leaving it to the dictates of the market.

“If we float the naira and allow speculators and those with corruption money and all the people who create the bubbles to launch into the market, you can yourself imagine the kind of situation we will find ourselves,” he said.

From the same This day article, I guess the rate inched slightly upwards, because a lot of the banks and big time customers (with over 50M) requested for much higher interest rates than the stop rates, as the auction was under allotted. I guess CBN was reluctant to pay more than the above stop rates, hence the under allotment despite over subscription for the 364 day tenor.

Inflation may be reducing but if there is shortage in Naira and inter bank rate goes up, rates will be looking North. CBN is pumping in more dollars that have less naira chasing it, so the demand for naira has gone up. This has lead to the increase in rates.
