Thanks bro.. After updating,does it need to format the phone? ,what version should he update to?. I'm a blackberry user don't really know much about android,will he install app or where is update option on the phone

After updating, everything stays intact unless you want to do a factory reset, then you should back up your files.
To check for updates go to settings - About phone - then click on the update arrow pointing upwards, underneath the screen, the system updates should appear if your data is on.

I downloaded from miui and then flashed with updater app, this last update was through OTA.

They are thesame phone as long as Nigeria is concerned, you can check my screenshot above, even cpu z recognises the Redmi note 4x as Redmi note 4.

Change the device name from redmi note 4 to note 4x,its just a name,nothing really special.
