Omo I went round Yaba the other day looking for it but no luck. You could try at CMS or come check Yaba yourself. These hardcopy GRE books are usually expensive so I would say about 5k or more. Or less if you can price wella. But why don't you stick with the soft copy and use the money to pay for their 6 online tests instead?

I highly doubt if you will get the hard copy of manhattan 5lb in any shop/store in nigeria.

Kaplan is 10k while the official guide is 15k (Prices at Mack IV Consults) , considering its volume and the good reviews I doubt the book would be less than 15k. I do have the soft copy but I need something different (void of screen light).

If you finally get one pls let me know. Btw, when is your exams date?

You have a decent profile bro. Just ace the GRE and you would stand a good chance in getting admitted to the school of your choice. Your work experience and certifications should also bolster your applications as it is in line with what you want to study. University of Maryland college park has a very decent Telecoms program that could suit your profile and it is jointly run with their School of business. You could work on campus as a Teaching, Research or Administrative assistant. You could apply to other top schools and some safe schools.

I am an aspiring student like you are and have heard that most of these funding opportunities are mostly available to Fall applicants but I cant speak of its veracity.

Getting above 150 in the verbal section of the GRE is very plausible but you have to start as early as possible. Because of your finals, you could start by learning some few words a day using the Magoosh vocabulary app and reading articles on newyorker, economist, the atlantic and co. But for engineering programs, you have to ace the Quantitative section and there are materials that would help you do just that.

I wish you the best in your applications as well as your MBA finals

KeLcHeE:
Great house it is! I have been following this thread silently and ardently. Please let me take centre stage.

I will be as objective as possible. My profile goes thus:

Course of study in Undergrad school (in one of the Federal Universities in the South-South): Electrical/Electronic Engineering
CGPA: 4.488

GRE score: *In God's able hands*. Lol

Work Expeience: 5year+, in one of the major GSM service provider companies

I am currently a 2nd/final year MBA student in one of the State Universities. Dunno if CGPA here would count towards increasing the strength of my application tho. For records sake, I had a 4.500 in my first year.

I have some certifications, most relevant to my field would be the famous but recondite CCNA and CCNP-route certifications.

As it stands, all I want is to get admitted into some engineering school in the US, REGARDLESS of its ranking. Oh yeah. Lol
1st CHALLENGE (FINANCIAL AID): I need a school (preferably in Texas) where I could study and work on campus if possible; also where I would be offered Graduate assistantship, plus any other financial aids available. I do not really know much about studying abroad as virtually 70% of my knowledge-base on this subject has come from this thread.

2ND CHALLENGE (COURSE VS SCHOOL OF STUDY): Choosing the right major has been a very serious challege. A friend in the US gave me an inside scoop as to a certain 'safe school' with a high acceptance rate (especially of int'l students) I could apply to. The only shortfall is that Computer Science is the only major I could go for in this school. I intend to apply to UT Dallas as well, since they offer Masters in Telecommunications Engineering which I crave for, judging by the hands-on experience I have bagged from my current job already. Computer Science is very cool to me but I have no rudimentary programming skill or knowledge whatsoever.

My target is spring 2018 - dunno how feasible this is. I intend to start intense preparations for the GRE in July (my MBA final exams would have been over by then), sit for it in August so as to beat the application deadline of September 30 stipulated by most schools.

Special regards to all folks who scored 150 and above in the Verbal section. That section of the exam no easy at all oh. God help us grin angry

Any sort of reply is most welcome. Please help a brother's plight...

I got Kaplan for free when I registered with BY Mafit but I never open am since then. lol. The official guide I bought for 4k + 200 (Oga find me something make I take chop) at Yaba. The best alternative if we can't find the Manhattan would be to print but even that could cost as much as 7-10k. So I'm good with using the soft copy, thanks.

My exam date is still tentative but I plan to write latest by July.

Scholastica16, I tried to code it but you figured it out grin. You don burst my bubbles. Yea. He's in UT Austin. In fact, he even got a good offer from Georgia Tech(full funding for Phd) but rejected it for UT Austin. What got me perturbed was why MIT, Princeton and co would bounce such strong profile even with a very good GRE score, SOP and LORs.

By the way, are you an Akokite smiley

Funny, immediately I saw the GPA and chemical engineering I also guessed the person. Funny how, it's also via LinkedIn I know the guy.

Isn't that too low for a first class graduate or is the USA the only country with world class universities? I don't think it's worth it to study in a low ranked masters programme anymore. I know people who made that decision and have lived to regret it.

Mid-100s schools in the US are actually quite stellar also. But the thing is that, world ranking can't just be packed with just US schools that's why you will find some very good US schools ranked around 400s in the world. And eg a Uni of Sheffield in UK is higher ranked than say LSU, or Uni of Oklahoma or sometimes u find them higher than TAMU. Even graduates from Leeds or Sheffield will tell you TAMU is better etc.

Good evening

Is it possible to have a rejection when a potential supervisor tell you to submit application?

Thank you

Super possible: try to identify generic, "I encourage you to apply" from a professor that really has an interest in you. Meanwhile, some profs expect some funding and don't eventually get them. Also the fact that a Prof encouraged you to apply mainly means he has an interest in you but will still streamline based in the overall profile of everybody from the application pool ge gets.

Thanks bro... I could explore the printing option.

I was also suprised when mack IV told me kaplan is 10k because I got one from B. Y Mafit for free.

Are you serious about OG being about 5k? That means mack IV actually got their stuffs on the high side. On the other hand, are you sure that the OG sold at that price range in Yaba or Ojuelegba would afford one access to practice tests?
