Short natural hair style

1) Look we want to achieve

2) Spray your hair with water so that your hair is damp

3) Add coconut oil to seal the moisture in

4) Add Eco gel/any other styling gel to style

Re: Embracing The Beauty Of Your Natural Hair by Nobody: 12:36pm On Apr 30, 2017
5) Brush it a little bit

6) End result

Yeah I read about that too, that some dreads aren't permanent and if a professional helps unlocking them, there wouldn't be a lot of breakage grin

Who knows maybe me and Nikita1 might be rocking dreads very soon grin

About your natural hair giving you too much wahala loool. Think that's normal but when the curls and growth and healthiness start popping, you'll feel like a proud mama whose child is now a millionaire grin(Ok maybe hair and being millionaire are not comparable but you get what I mean grin)
Hmmm, there's a hairstyle called faux lox or yarn locs, and they aren't permanent. Besides this, if you loc your own hair, it's kinda permanent. "Kinda" b/c once your hair is loc'ed it's difficult to unloc. Again, you can try but it'll be next to impossible not to lose hair, whether you attempt it yourself or get someone to do it for you. The second woman in the picture you posted above has faux locs; she can undo them anytime. But the first woman has locs for real; that is all of her hair -loc'd, and it would be hard to unloc them without loosing hair. Also, if you've 200, 300+ locs on your head it's best to just cut them off and start over over b/c they will take forever to unloc and you will also lose hair, which defeats the purpose of unloc'ing, so it's better to just cut them off.

You seem excited about natural hair. I'm no longer excited. I'm excited about locs, tho. Did you recently start your natural hair journey? Me, I've had enough of curls and growth. In fact, I've had enough of my natural hair and need a change, lol. I'm not a newbie to natural hair; I've been natural for too long to know that it requires a great deal of maintenance, which's why I said it gives me too much wahala. I don tire. Why do you think I'm talking about locs in this thread? lol.

Locs/dreads really are cool.

If you don't like them there're ways to unloc your hair but you will get a lot of breakage and shedding in the process. Sometimes it could be impossible to undo the locs and yes, in that case, the only solution, if you don't want them anymore, is to cut them off and start over. Most black women who loc their hair however, typically stick with it for years, so there's no such thing as not liking them and wanting to cut them off. People who cut off their dreads/locs only do so after years of loc'ing their hair - when they're once again ready for a new change in their life. Though the beginning stages of locs can be uncomfortable, once they start getting longer they look awesome.

Some are scared of dread because of permanent looks not knowing they can as well fix weavons and change look. I'm definitely going for permanent dread

Glad to meet another natural who also wants to loc her hair. What's your motivation? Why do you want locs, if you don't mind my asking? Yes, you're right. Locs can be styled in different ways. You can twist them for a twist out, put them in a bun when you've gotten the length, colour them and much more.

There're 5 different types of locs (and faux locs isn't one), not 2. Faux locs aren't locs b/c you can undo them - the same way you can undo individual braid extensions like box braids, senegalese twists or any other braid extensions. But they're still a good option for someone who likes the look of locs but doesn't want to get them b/c they can’t let go of their lose natural hair for one reason or the other. Someone like me has already made up her mind.

8 months post relaxer, when are you going to do your big chop? Take your time sha. Do your big chop when you're ready.

Oh man I totally forgot to reply this post embarassed.

The thing is my hair has never been this short and it just reaches to my shoulder grin. My relaxed hair has always been around the 'bra length' or a tiny bit longer than that since I can remember. It has always been very long and thick.

The longer the transitioning hair grows, the more mini chops I do in between but never shorter than shoulder length. I'm pretty pretty sure my head is too big for a short cut loool. Honestly my cheeks look like I stuffed puff puff into them grin

Just joking but you know what I mean

Did you remove some parts? I remember reading that you think I'm lucky to have curls. To be honest I am happy to have curls but I would have also been happy if I didn't. When I decided to go on this journey, it was because I wanted healthier and longer hair. It wouldn't have mattered if I had 4c hair or 4b hair or 4a hair. For all I care I could have had 1b hair lol. Even though my hair was long it never grew past the bra strap length, which was really annoying. Besides there's sooooooo much you can do with 4c hair. It's the most unique and the 1 which stands out the most.

I don't think I will ever get tired of being natural because it's sth growing out of my scalp if that makes sense. Even if you do locs it's still your natural hair nau. You can't do locs with relaxed hair

Aaaaand erm I've forgotten what else you wrote embarassed

That is cute

I like it too, and thi on newayloook! I'd need to add a whole bunch of hair to do it on myself though!

I LOVE it! I think this is the second style from this pretty lady that I've seen and loved. It looks really simple (I think she did blow dry her hair) but I like the simple yet prettiness of it!

so I'm 5 months transitioning and so far so good I'm getting ready for the big chop. But I've got one question.

My natural hair looks like the first picture but I want it to look like something in between the second and third. Do you have any lowcost products in mind that I can use to achieve this.

Thanks

Hi Jane cheesy

Don't be fooled by any products who claims to make your haur curl. The thing is those products all work the same with a minimal difference. All they can do is capture the already existing curls.
If your hair is very moisturised and is a 4a/4b hair type, it is going to curl If it doesn't curl, then that's probably because it's 4c but you can make it curly yourself. I don't know how long your hair is but you can try doing finger coils, it takes time but will last you 1-2 weeks. If it's long enough to do twists out then you can try it too.

Here's a video
