It seems the prophecy is quite flexible and you never know, he could have been the prince that was promised.
To me sef, the gods ran out of prince and decided to stick with the boy that knows nothing.
You think Jon's TPTWP?

No one really knew about any prophecy. Most people wouldn't believe The prophecy was made by men though.
No one? Yet Rhaegar knew(which in a way started the dominos effect of it coming to fruition), a certain prophetess made mention of it to a Targaryen king, Red woman knows, it was even written in a damn book for all to read.

Prophecy made by men? Which men? Dude abeg stop shooting blanks.

Has anyone actually thought of this
Jon might be a baratheon and not a targaryen
Jon can only be a targaryen if the war lasted for more than atleast 9months cus that's how long rheagar needs to impregnate lyanna and conceive jon

What if lyanna was already pregnant for Robert before rheagar kidnapped her since Robert and lyanna were in a relationship

The R+L=J theory is obviously true but the R might be Robert and not rheagar ..... Just thinking though

Hmm, where did you find this?

This is another good alternative to the theory.

No its not, because Ned would not have hid him away from his father and childhood friend and Lynna would not have said Rob will kill the child.

That's an honest question right there. I want to know why you think there's/there'll be a prince that was promised, and why you think it's Jon.

They said a Targaryen will be a prince that was promised. You
then proceed to wipe them out and failed at it till she had
dragons and the gods for being wicked with humor allowed one
to grow under your very nose and you think you can fight
fate?

'They said' ?The Gods ? Robert ? Why should he care what some woods witch saw in her dreams. He was waging a war. The gods must be humorless, Robert isn't their enemy. It's ambiguous what Rhaegar saw in the book, but whatever he did changed him. Books are rare in Planetos, and you had to go to certain places to read certain books, it wasn't there for all to see. Mel believed it was was Stannis, the Ghost of Highheart said he/she would be born from the line of Aerys and Rhaella(which Stannis isn't), Barth used the Valyrian word for dragon which could have been male or female, Rhaegar believed it was Aegon, Moqorro believed it was Victarion, Aemon believed it was Rhaegar, so much believing, that there'll probably be none of it in the end. TPTWP is a legend. The hero of the story wouldn't be the prince that was promised, but someone that sees the bigger picture. The world can then go ahead and brand this person as the prince that was promised.

Lyanna never liked Robert. They weren't in a relationship. They were only betrothed.

Just to add, if by some means a character finds out he's/she's TPTWP, they don't instantly get superpowers, or evolve. The 'prophecy' is all metaphorical and meaningless.
Prophecy is like a half-trained mule. It looks as though
it might be useful, but the moment you trust in it, it
kicks you in the head.

All of this points to that someone knew a prince was promised as opposed to you who said no one knew. More than one person knew.

When I mean they, I mean multiple people who said it at one point in time including the prophetess who mentioned the line it will come from.

Whether Robert didn't care or should have, he is six feet beneath the ground. Whether Cersi whose friend even had an instant kiss with the prophecy and chooses not to care, her kids are dead anyway

You speak so sure of the prophecy like you know what will happen or the writer of the book.

I understand they don't have super powers but suspected prince walked out of flaming fire unscathed, the other suspected one rose up from the dead.

Pertaining to that quote, even tyrion would agree with me its wise to consider it in making one's plan. Like the saying says, "it can be a useful thing". But the other part of not trusting to much in it in my own view is like saying, do not just sit and wait for it to happen, you have to put it into effect by your actions.

So far the people who have not trusted in it according to you have had it happen right before their very eyes and suffered its consequences.

The common man wouldn't know about no prophecy. The few isn't the many.

It is not for the common man to be bothered with in the first place especially a setting based on nobility. Why you saying books are hard to come by for them seem odd to me.

In any case, once you are a noble you should be concerned by all things that involves you and your endeavors that concerns nobility. Else cersi would never have visited the witch.

Or is it hotpie that would be looking for a soothsayer to predict his chances to the iron throne?

Cersei was a little girl when she met Maggy, she was only curious. Nobles only try to advance themselves in our story, they wouldn't believe in such tales. We had a scene where Ser Alliser brought a wight's hand to King's Landing, and they all laughed. There are no printers or typewriters in Planetos, you could only get like 3-5 copies of a book, even the Seven Pointed Star(Bible).

Why was Cersei curious? What did her curiosity centered on?

How do you know about that? It was explicitly stated or implied in the series?

You have the right of it grin .To most Westerosi(especially the Southerners), wights, white walkers, the Night's King are nothing more than folktales and legends.TPTWP prophecy will of course not be common knowledge.Rhaegar had to even read about it from old scrolls.

Why is any little noble-born brat curios? I would've thought the answer is obvious enough - because they are privileged and can afford to. Do you see Gendry or Hot-pie going around looking for prophecies?

The books are hand-written; of course they'd be hard to come by. Think medieval Europe.

You and I have the privilege being VIEWERS and seeing ALL angles of the story. We saw the white walker right from episode 1 of season 1; we saw Jon Snow resurrected; we saw Dany in the House of the Undying and heard the prophesies given to her - and so we KNOW these prophesies are real. But the nobility of Westerosi neither saw nor heard any of these first-hand. Remember Ned Stark dismissing the Night's watch deserter's stories as "a mad man sees what he sees.."? Even the late Commander Joer Mormont had to see a wight before he believed it - and even then he STILL doubted that the white walkers were back.

My point is, the majority of Westerosi nobility are concerned with nobility stuff - winning wars, being in the King's favor, making the best marriage match and all such schemes; little privileged brats like past Cersei and Jaime are even less concerned about such stories of prophesies - they just want to joust and party and seek illicit fun like visiting an old witch. As for the small folk, they just want to survive. The ONLY people who are truly concerned with stories of wights and promised princes are: (1) the FEW really learned (or "enlightened", like the priests of R'hllor) who have read enough of the old scrolls to know that these aren't mere stories, (2) the men of Night's watch and the free folk north of the wall, and (3) you and I the viewers who have see everything.

I am sure from my other post we are basically saying the same thing.

@your other post.

It is to those 'few' am referring to. Not the ones even if they were to know would still fail to heed the prophecy whether easy to come by or not.

In sum, some people stories are just to fill a void till who it's destined for truly shows up. Everyone is more or less a piece in the scheme of things.

Haha. You confessed at last grin .Every fan has that one person's death who made them 'hate' GoT.

Nah,I may be in the minority of those who don't like Arya. The little wolf gets around by being stubborn and mistrustful (might have killed her a few times). Not so clever, but it may have to do with her age.

Still, Arya is the only one that has taken revenge for the death of her parents n bro. She's angry, raw and direct. I love her.
