When a claim is made, the burden of proof rests with the person making the claim.

Anyone can make any claim that cannot be falsified, but because it can't be falsified doesn't make it valid. You don't dignify claims on the basis of there being no proof for the invalidity of the claim. You dignify claims on the basis of substantial evidence for such claims.

I could make a claim that last night I talked to an Alien with two heads, and going by your logic, everyone should take me seriously since there is no proof that my claim is false, despite there being no proof that my claim is true. But that's not the rational way to arrive at a valid conclusion. The rational process is for me to first provide evidence that my claim is true.

And That's the problem we have in the world today. We think everything has to follow scientific process and must be proven before we can accept it.

Sigh. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. The claim about Adam is an extraordinary claim, because it's the foundation of a belief system millions of people subscribe to. It wouldn't hurt to ascertain the validity of such a claim.

I think your brain analogy is a very poor one. Mind you, I have see human brain before. I did a bit of anatomy in the university. Even if I haven't, lots of people have. There is a mountain of documented evidence that a brain exists and that it exists in exactly the kind of way it's been described in the textbooks. You really need to work on your analogies.

Furthermore more, Adam is just a religious figure among other religious figures. If your argument is anything to go by, then we should also dignify the claim of every other religion about the history of humanity. I suppose you also take the Egyptian Isis and Osiris tales as factual, since they can't be disproved? And I suppose you also accept the claims of every other religion describing the origins of mankind as factual?

And how was he able to reconcile it with his faith? sorry for the drift but have also read story(myth) of Odin and his bloody encounters,penchant for killing any that crosses his path,so one wonders why you choose to meet such a bloody act, your right though...chill you dont have to flare up!

The key word is belief underpinned by "faith" which in case you aren't aware is held in trust that what you believe is true, not because you can prove it but because you decide that it's what you want to believe in. As a rational being, you eventually will believe in something once you reach the age of reason. What that is is up to you.

Agreed. It Probably is a poor analogy, especially for someone who might have done some anatomy in school which is a very minute percentage of humans anyway.

If they are human, then I know for sure that they can make mistakes, lie, hide the truth and so on. So according to your statement, unless I can prove it myself I shouldn't believe it.

But here's another one. You've never seen gravity before have you? But you believe it exists because the scientists say so. Well, who knows If it's something else holding us to the earth preventing us from floating away?

Adam isn't a religious figure as such. The name may be peculiar to Judaeo-Christian and Islamic religions But trust me other traditions also teach that humans are descended from a pair. The names may defer, but the number and type usually doesn't. A male and a female pair.

I subscribe to the Catholic religion and it's teachings so I believe not necessarily because I can prove or verify all the claims made by the Church But because I as a human bring with freewill choose to believe. I don't subscribe to the Egyptian takes of Osiris and the rest, so I choose not to believe them.

Adam may or may not be the first human, but I choose to believe he is the first human who procreated and churned the rest of us out of his loins.

It's logical to think that the human race descended from a pair, male and female and until there's an incontrovertible proof to the contrary, that's what I as a rational being with a God-ordained freewill has decided to believe.

Now, did you say you want to prove that Adam wasn't real? I'm listening...

The above is the kind of story you tell to a 2 year old. How any adult would believe this story as factual is beyond me. And guess what? The Jews who you adopted their stories no longer believe the stories as factual. Majority of Jews see them as allegorical. But surprisingly, we have presumably mature people in Nigeria touting these stories as factual and even arguing tirelessly in support of their belief. WOW!!
