Stewie101:And That's the problem we have in the world today. We think everything has to follow scientific process and must be proven before we can accept it. Have you seen a human brain before? I doubt it. Yet you believe we all have one each. Why? Because you've pictures and science tells you we have. Is that really different from me saying there's God? Well I haven't exactly seen him, But I've seen drawings and religion says He exists. Not everything lends themselves to empirical proofs and physical evidence. Not everything that exists, exists on this plane of existence. You weren't there so you can't disprove that Adam really existed. Whatever you must have read to the contrary is also pure conjecture. The writers of the books you've read weren't present there either. What proof would you like me to offer? His bones or his DNA sample? |

ElsonMorali:Sigh. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. The claim about Adam is an extraordinary claim, because it's the foundation of a belief system millions of people subscribe to. It wouldn't hurt to ascertain the validity of such a claim. I think your brain analogy is a very poor one. Mind you, I have see human brain before. I did a bit of anatomy in the university. Even if I haven't, lots of people have. There is a mountain of documented evidence that a brain exists and that it exists in exactly the kind of way it's been described in the textbooks. You really need to work on your analogies. Furthermore more, Adam is just a religious figure among other religious figures. If your argument is anything to go by, then we should also dignify the claim of every other religion about the history of humanity. I suppose you also take the Egyptian Isis and Osiris tales as factual, since they can't be disproved? And I suppose you also accept the claims of every other religion describing the origins of mankind as factual? |

Stewie101:ST Francis lived a life of holiness and was very prayerful and hard extra-ordinary amount of miraculous control and power over animals even few years after his death, a catholic noble and some men who worked at the sight of the burial, exhumed his corpse for onward reburial at a special catholic church burial site, reported of his 'corpse being of great beauty gleaming with a dazzling whiteness and giving joy to all who looked upon him'-Bro Elias However, any other question you wish to ask,cld best be left for him to answer,if you ever have the opportunity to meet him over a dinner! Exactly the reason i wish to have a dinner with him!...most who practice spiritualism i know of this day,are just meanly scam agents,we occassionally visit them to hear what they have to say,to statisfy our curiosity, even when we know they have nothing to offer and neither do they hear from God! |
Sigh. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. The claim about Adam is an extraordinary claim, because it's the foundation of a belief system millions of people subscribe to. It wouldn't hurt to ascertain the validity of such a claim. The key word is belief underpinned by "faith" which in case you aren't aware is held in trust that what you believe is true, not because you can prove it but because you decide that it's what you want to believe in. As a rational being, you eventually will believe in something once you reach the age of reason. What that is is up to you. You really need to work on your analogies.Agreed. It Probably is a poor analogy, especially for someone who might have done some anatomy in school which is a very minute percentage of humans anyway. I haven't seen the human brain before But you are asking me to trust the research of other people and what they've written because...? If they are human, then I know for sure that they can make mistakes, lie, hide the truth and so on. So according to your statement, unless I can prove it myself I shouldn't believe it. But here's another one. You've never seen gravity before have you? But you believe it exists because the scientists say so. Well, who knows If it's something else holding us to the earth preventing us from floating away? Furthermore more, Adam is just a religious figure among other religious figures. If your argument is anything to go by, then we should also dignify the claim of every other religion about the history of humanity. I suppose you also take the Egyptian Isis and Osiris tales as factual, since they can't be disproved? And I suppose you also accept the claims of every other religion describing the origins of mankind as factual?#sigh. Adam isn't a religious figure as such. The name may be peculiar to Judaeo-Christian and Islamic religions But trust me other traditions also teach that humans are descended from a pair. The names may defer, but the number and type usually doesn't. A male and a female pair. I subscribe to the Catholic religion and it's teachings so I believe not necessarily because I can prove or verify all the claims made by the Church But because I as a human bring with freewill choose to believe. I don't subscribe to the Egyptian takes of Osiris and the rest, so I choose not to believe them. Adam may or may not be the first human, but I choose to believe he is the first human who procreated and churned the rest of us out of his loins. It's logical to think that the human race descended from a pair, male and female and until there's an incontrovertible proof to the contrary, that's what I as a rational being with a God-ordained freewill has decided to believe. Now, did you say you want to prove that Adam wasn't real? I'm listening... |

Things should be believed on the basis of testable and workable evidence. I know that gravity exists because I can test and experience it, and it can be applied in a myriad of productive and effective ways, of which the flying of Aeroplanes and Space shuttles is one of these ways. The story of Adam on the other hand, which I would argue has a unique story line and backdrop different from that of any other religion, except maybe the Quran, is attested to only by the words of the Bible. No other historic document affirms this claim, and all it's claims are made without any testable or workable evidence whatsoever. And not only that, the claim stands in direct opposition to everything we know about geography, history and genetic diversity. It also insults common sense in many ways and reveals the ignorant thinking of the people that concocted it. It claims that the creator of the universe decided to create just man, then he changes his mind because he realizes be needs a help. Then he creates woman. This alone feeds into sexism and a debased perception of femininity which existed during the time these stories were prevalent. Then god creates these two people without an understanding of good and evil. Then he tells them not to eat the fruit from a tree, and then a serpent decieves them into eating it, then they have an understanding of good and evil. Then God punishes them. And this punishment represents the emergence of suffering in the world, including child labor. Lol. The above is the kind of story you tell to a 2 year old. How any adult would believe this story as factual is beyond me. And guess what? The Jews who you adopted their stories no longer believe the stories as factual. Majority of Jews see them as allegorical. But surprisingly, we have presumably mature people in Nigeria touting these stories as factual and even arguing tirelessly in support of their belief. WOW!! |
