You might have mistakenly instructed your bank to do auto-rollover of your liquidated fund by ticking the column for auto- rollover on the TB form. Just yield to the advice given above by liquidating it before expiration through the secondary market and expect either a capital loss or gain.

I thought rates given by a particular bank after the primary auction should be the same in all their branches. I am seeing rates like 18.5..℅ another 18.39℅, all from FBN.

It happened to me. I requested for my form there was no instructions asking them to roll it over. I requested that we send an email and a reminder but to no avail. I was asked to remind the officer two days before the expiration of the 90 days.

Why is first bank giving different rates to people from the primary auction? Wayo has started
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by asbanko: 9:08pm On May 04, 2017
If buying from primary auction is a function of the bank's rate, having different rates from the same bank isn't shady to some extent. You just have to go with what you have been given irrespective of the CBN stop rate. Or how will you verify that the bank actually bought at higher rates than disclosed?

Another scenario is when your purchase/bid coincides with the primary auction date and you were eventually sold the secondary market rate based on availability of the specified tenor and a good prevailing rates. How will you verify what was eventually sold to you in relation to primary and secondary purchase?

I think the TB market is becoming more competitive and negotiable. More powers have been given to banks now. Those of them that are customer friendly are ready to put smiles on their existing customer's face and luring potential ones in transferring their nest eggs to them for a win-win benefits.

These observations of mine aren't an axiom. I just viewed my opinion. I'm sure the gurus in the house will provide answers to some of my enquiries above by installing a street light on a dark road. Cheers!

FBN has a variety including the fantastic 18% for 63 days!

UNDERSTANDING THE NIGERIAN TREASURY BILLS MARKET

NIGERIAN TREASURY BILLS
These are discountable instruments used by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to manage liquidity in the system, usually on short-term basis. In recent times, the market has witnessed a tremendous higher yield in the Nigerian Treasury Bills. The tenors are short with a maximum of 364-days with yields far higher in comparison to what the money market offers:

Features of the Nigerian Treasury Bills
 Issuer is the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
 Typically, Nigerian Treasury Bills are zero-risk and rediscount-able through licensed Money Market Dealers. The Rates are offered on a discount basis and are often referred to as risk-free rates.
 Primary Issue of 91 days and 182 days are offered bi-monthly, while 364 days bills are offered monthly.
 The investor earns upfront interest, hence, invests discounted value.
 They are used by CBN as an instrument for managing liquidity through the Open Market Operations (OMO).
 They are traded actively in the secondary market amongst Banks and Discount houses on an outright or repo basis.
 Liquidity Status: The Nigerian Treasury Bills qualify for liquidity ratio computation.
 It also has an active two-way quote secondary market which provides additional liquidity for all the primary auctions.
 Tenors are short and range from 91, 182 and 364 days.
 Institutions or individuals can borrow using Nigerian Treasury Bills as collateral.
 You can invest as low as N100,000.00 in the Nigerian Treasury Bills.
if i should fix for 200k for a period of 90days, what could be my ROI for that period. Tnk u

. . . Your interest has already been paid to you. That's the difference between your initial 500 and 407. At end of tenor, you'll receive 500k.
