What is your educational system like in Nigeria? A system that doesn't even work on a normal day with normal students, you now want to implement a special educational method for footballers?

Is it those small boys on the streets just looking for how to eat one meal per day that you want to force to school? Na you go pay their school fees? Or will there be some scholarship system in place for people whose talents you're not even sure of?

Ideas tend to look much better in one's mind than in reality

I think some people here are not living in nigeria or did no go to school in nigeria or attained school with no olodo

forget all this talk where i live in northern nigeria, i have attainted about 6 different schools before i wrote my ssce. There are some students that no matter how you try, they will still not get it.

In nigeria some students due to poverty others due drugs will not study

bottomline: a child should not be sent away because he couldn't catch up in class or did not go school RATHER lets encourage him to go to school

The coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has called up Zamalek of Egypt star Moruf Yusuf to join the Eagles squad for their get together in France.

The official list of players called up for the game will be released by the coach next week, with Moruf the shock name in the list which has been delayed by a week.

An assistant of the Franco-German coach contacted the 24 year old who can also play as a left back aside his original role as a midfielder. The move by the coach is to provide cover for regular left back Elderson Echiejile.

Moruf will team up with the squad for their camping in France and could play in the friendly game against Corsica, which will serve as the build up as part of the preparation for the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa.

When people say foreign solutions don't work, all I ask them is to show me a local solution that has really worked.

The best solution is a marriage of the two. The countries making headway today, that's what they've done. From China to Singapore to beautiful Rwanda.

Deny a child education and you've taken one of the most important things in life away from him. The world is a global village and education is such a great leveller. A child that is not literate because we believe 100% that he will succeed in the gamble called football is being set up for a life of regrets in this time and age.

Asking the question, should we take football away from a child that fails, is like asking should we take food away from a sick child that will not take his drug. That a child will vehemently refuse to take his drug is the fault of the adult. That a child will not learn to be literate is the fault of the teacher.

And yes The Coach Carter concept will work for evey child... if it could work for blacks in the united states in slum areas and regions known for drugs and violence and also with black kids so dull all they knew was booze and sex at such tender age and also again with kids who initially had no direction in life as all they knew was the robbery and death they see on the streets daily...... then yes it will work for all children....

Rather than all this " pass exams, get good grades" and all that. Educate them about the careers they want to delve into, organise a thirty minute session if you can, before they get to kicking balls. Tell them of the possibilities that await them, the good and the bad, the legal perspective and the cultural one.

These cases you cite of Iheanacho signing multiple contracts and such, it is not because he did not go to school. There is NO SECONDARY SCHOOL anywhere in Nigeria or Africa that will teach you on how to sign a contract. None!

So, how would his getting formal education in a secondary school have avoided that? Or you think everyone who goes to secondary school ought to know these things? Even University graduates in Nigeria don't know about contracts

Instead of both you and TheSupernerd to be speaking big grammar on one Coach Carter system, I expected you guys to bring up something that can work in Nigeria. How will learning Physics and Biology help Iheanacho to avoid signing the wrong thing?

Educate them, but educate them on things that will help their immediate venture- football. If they feel unfulfilled after their sojourn in footy, then they have the option to further education.

Stop saying people's kids won't be allowed to play football because they can't get six credits in WAEC/NECO...no be University admission dem dey find

The secret to education is not first of all information, is not swamping the mind of the child with knowledge. The first and the most important thing is having a good relationship with the child, a relationship that engenders confidence, trust and makes the child willing to learn. Most children will stubbornly lock their minds until they sense the personal touch and interest of a teacher.

When one makes raw knowledge the criteria then it's easy to label those who don't measure up as olodos. Book intelligence is not the only form of intelligence.

Our best teachers are often those who take a personal interest in us and those we take interest in.

I have not seen the movie on Carter concept but I feel it would work out well for every child but we have not succeeded yet with the normal school set up in Nigeria not to talk of a Carter system that would be more demanding and possibly more expensive. But the idea taken by itself in my opinion has wonderful merit.

P.S: About medicine... yes... you are right, you won't need to go to a school. But I am just making reference to a host of then who end up not practicing but will be in emergency situations where their exposure and experiences gained from learning all those years may come in handy to save another life maybe on a plane flight with no certified doctor in sight or maybe in a store... And I have seen Guys who aren't certified docs help with childbirth in some emergency situations, most of them studied medicine or a biomedical course to some degree and even graduated.... the knowledge came in handy and not many will learn this without going to a school.... Not everybody is a Vivien Thomas.... Life is dynamic....

Honestly, in the coach carter concept this is what was applied firsthand on the kids. Coach Carter got the teachers of these kids to make out time and ensure that His players were also high flyers in the classroom as they were on the Court. Even one very stubborn Ruiz or so with an afro... (Safarigirl will find the guy that played his (Ruiz's) real life character pretty handsome and good looking ).... was somehow reached out to and he was made to see the benefits.... and he became not just a better player but also a much better man.

This is something that can work and should be encouraged if we are really really looking at building "men" for tomorrow and not just players...
