Enjoying FTA is about Big dishes.

In the past, forum members talk about installing 3M,4M and even BUTONEDAY in warri bought 5M dish installed by DESJAM all the way from kano.

That's the enthusiasm that existed then but now a forum members want to watch channels TV free on a 60cm dish.

Also as pointed out in the past by George_D, FTA is not cheap and enthusiasts are not in it because its cheap or because they can't pay for dstv.

I quite agree with you 100%.

Most newbies can't decipher. I remember in 2011(7 years ago) when a senior member here Chief Badaru was in my place to assist with my Nilesat, we talked about how closing your eye to spend big is far better than paying for Paytv. Many wouldn't understand.

BUTONEDAY actually shipped that dish to Nigeria and it cost close to 1 million naira, . How much is DSTV, compared to such investment?

When people visit me and ask why so many dishes in my place, coupled with the IPTV boxes and then Both DSTV and startimes in the same house, I tell them, they wouldn't understand.

I am not always taking the back seat when it comes to watching quality entertainment, which far exceeds the the N150,000 p/a subscription to DSTV. I lost count of Decoders in my house. They're close to 10, some I have not even unpacked since 2015.

George_D sold to me my first HD decoder in 2009, when Multitv was rave of the moment.

I am planning on getting a 4.5m cos of Astra 19. These things don't come cheap.

Hispasat, Hotbird and the German package on Astra 19 offer programmes that DSTV can never rival, save local contents

the solution is not to use paytv, even with DSTV you will not get everything you need. but with FTA, I never miss anything. FTA for life

yes you are so on point, this has been my argument, which you have well explained i think this will put the issue of FTA and Paytv which is cheaper to rest.

Nobody is doubting it.

But if you get say BBC on 2.4m dish, that is normal.

If I get same BBC on 60cm, it becomes an achievement on FTA. For me that's the joy,

hope you understand.

There are rules of engagement.

Within the sub Sahara territory that's controlled majorly by Startimes, Canalsat and DSTV, some prime channels that airs key programs would be a tough nut to crack. To crack them, you need to big dish to do so, cos the channels would have their footprints closer to Europe and MENA.

Top 5 leagues in Eurpoe
EPL Canalsat and DSTV
La liga Canalsat and DSTV
Bundesliga Startimes
French league Startimes
Serie A Startimes
Belgiam pro league Startimes
Dutch Eredivese Startimes
Chinese Super league Startimes
UCL Canalsat and DSTV
Europa league Canalsat and DSTV

The Paytvs are available on 90cm.

They would struggle to kill off any competition especially from non pay tv, like Joy sport, Kwese Sport, Champions TV etc that are available on 90 Cm. These channels are also limited to a handful of matches.

To have unhindered access you need minimum of 1.8m to draw signal off the radar of sub Sahara Africa.

With BISS, POwer VU and whatever cam, you can go to Egypt (Nilesat) then Europe (Hotbird, Astra,) Middle East (Paksat) then Hispasat. AFN(with limited football options)

No payTv will come to block your signal when you left the domain they dominate.

But for 90cm, it would be blocked, as it is against international best practice.
