Won't it be interesting if that happens? I guess the US embassy pegged the visa fees at $160 even as Nigerian embassy charges $210 because of recession in Nigeria.

Its even funny that the bloggers are creating awareness ignorantly when we should be demanding good economic policies from our own government. If they decide to start charging $210 because of the pressure the exchange rate brought, it will be the US embassy's gain and our own loss.

Bloggers are looking for traffic so don't pay attention to them. Some Nigerians always fight for the right they don't have.

Let's just hope that the American embassy stick to the current visa fees because if they decided to charge $210 there is nothing anyone can do

You guys have twisted the whole point of the argument. Are we fighting the visa fee or our government fx policies because I dont understand at all. US embassy is independent and at such, its not our place to force an exchange rate on them, for a start why are their citizens not fighting the $210 we charge them for Nigeria visa fee when they charge us $160? They can as well start charging us $210 and lets see whether its not the grass that will suffer.Lets separate the cbn bad policies from this issue please. If you ask me, creating too much awareness about this may result in what will not benefit the common man in Nigeria.

He who gets it get it... i cant say more . What has $210 got to do with anything. The fact that there is Reciprocity doesnt mean if they are charging $210 it has to be an exact match..... The fee is $160 period (they charge most countries a standard of $160 anyway not just Nigerians ) and within the laws of a land how can they charge an exchange rate more than the market rate .

$160 is the standard while the other countries charge more or less in exchange. Using examples In Pakistan a US citizen pay $192 in exchange the Pakistani pays $160... Republic of Congo is a whole $299 for US citizens while its $160 for their US visa fees........so many countries are structured at $160 in exchange for higher or lower . In Cambodia US pay $35 their citizens pay $160 to go to US. Jordan it is $56 why their people pay $160...Russia is $193 in exchange to $160 ... Algeria its an exact match $160 both ways

Visa fees exchange doesnt have to be an exact match .

As a british citizen i have to pay ESTA fees to visit the US but US citizens are not charged to enter the UK . .... .it is 14 usd for ESTA and that usd /gbp rate is definitely within the market value . It cannot be charged at a rate above the market value that again is the basis of this conversation

Hey guys what happens when there is a wrong date of birth on i20. Just one digit though 05 instead of 08.
Should a new i20 be requested or a mail from the school would be sufficient?

As a student you i20 is a very important document so it needs to be accurate.... if i were you. I would definitely get it corrected

Get a new I-20. You'd still need it after getting to the US..even beyond school, for work authorization, other visas, green card application etc. Avoid inconsistencies in your documents, and save yourself some headache later on.

It's Funny how justwise chickened out from the main issue and diverted to the $210 reciprocity law when the main point being discussed is the exchange rate. If I am to score his analytical skills, I'll give him 1/10 because he went totally off point. Lagosismyhome really get time like walspring said. I'm sure the smart ones can read between the line. I dropped a comment about the issue yesterday and someone deleted it so I gave up on the issue because deleting such valid point tells a lot already.

1) Its not your place to rate his analytical skills because he disagreed with your opinion 2) This forum is not to come and show people how best you can analyse issues bla bla, If there is an issue and people argue back and forth, At a point there will be compromise and if there isnt, then let it rest.3) If we argue about this from now till next year, It wont solve anything neither will it reduce the cost of visa.

I completely feel you. Think about it this way: If the US embassy decides to increase the visa fee from $160 to $200 or more regardless of the rate, would you still query them? Understand that they are running it like a business outfit generating money for the US government and people are not compelled to apply for their visa. Like it is said in Yoruba "Aje ko gba ni" (Take it or leave it). Energy should rather be channeled to increasing the value of our own naira. Reporting to the government or CBN won't change anything. Remember these same set of government officials apply for US visas too.

My dear it is not take it or leave it .... The US Embassy is not doing anyone a favour. The benefit is mutual, they gain a lot in tourism, students been there, skills and man power. Same way my employer is not doing me a favour. We are both benefiting as my skill set is needed on the project while it helps my bank balance. Nigeria has a lot of foreigners as well.

No Country is an island ,UK will soon find out hard with brexit. Nursing applications is down , house prices now on a free fall. ...let them continue , na them go dey beg people to come. Watch this space..... same way with Thrump gra gra, their tourism industry go hear am....Tourism helps their economy

I don't get how people defend this 400/$ because the fee is $160. So tomorrow they should tell us the exchange rate is now 1000/$ because we are paying lesser amount of $160, that time you people will sit up.

If the embassy sets it at $160, they have their reason and I bet you they are still gaining. Other countries that is getting it at $160, is the exchange rate higher than normal rate?

Even you can't compare the number of people who pay US visa fees (visiting, Sevis, settlement etc). The difference covers up the fee margin and more. (My opinion).

We want normal or lesser exchange rate abeg. US doesn't have fx issues like us. Their currency is stronger. From 197 to 360 in 2 years, but theirs is stable. We have had it hard enough.

NB: If you give me something at a cheaper price and use style to collect more, you are no longer being fair to me. I will still feel cheated. Yea I know its the officials and Banks setting the rate, why are you guys supporting a higher rate? The rate of naira depreciation is appalling and embarrassing and its sad to see people giving excuse for 400 to a dollar.

Will it be fair to set the visa fees at $210 and use N385 official rate or $160 and use N400 rate?

Exactly the point I made earlier.

Imagine the fee on SEVIS $200 alone.... that is enough self so lets not talk of $160....$ 360 na kwa compared to $210

F1 visa is actually $360 of two payments and not $160

I dey tell you!!! That sevis alone ehhh..both far and wide go there to study. Those people are on the gaining side, they know. Which is actually a good thing for a country, they have built their country so they should enjoy the gains.

But 400/$ higher than normal rate.. lie lie.
If we accept this 400, those cabals will move it higher again. That is how it starts. Na today?

We can start by writing petitions and asking people to go vote against it.
I've seen something like that but I don't know how it's done. Please if anyone has an idea, let's get this ball rolling!
LagosismyHome:
Visa fee is $160 ..... so at 54000k they were using 337.50 which is still high compared to official rate

Now US embassy is using 400 naira times $160 making it 64,000 naira .

Does anyone know how they make formal complain in Nigeria......i definitely want to join the complain.... This is not right and i think bloggers and others should complain so that they can review and use official rate

No one twisted the whole point because the main argument was all about exchange rate and not visa fee but some people here are talking about visa fee I believe they don't even read those posts at all which is not the main event.

Am even surprise to see some people here accepting the fact that the exchange rate used is acceptable when it is above official ate and BDC rate because they forgot the bilateral deal or agreement between the two countries and I don't think the deal stated one country can use rate above official and BDC rate during conversion to their currency.
