eyinjuege:I agree with you but it doesn't change the fact that there are two sides of the coin. Everything good has a bad side. |

Bahddo:You seem not to understand him, social media gives us opportunity to leave too many details of our past unlike the days of our fathers. yes, indecency is not limited to our generation but hardly can you find them common place. Moreover, everything about some people is on social media, I repeat everything not minding the negative implications if any. |

NaijaTechGuy:Op your concerns are somewhat inconsequential and at best illogical. I don't use snapchat and neither do I post unnecessarily on Facebook and Twitter but I don't see how it's detrimental to the success of the next generation or the next to come. For me, I think our parents left only as much memories, in pictures and newspapers, as they could afford at the time. If they had snapchat, believe me, you would have grown up to still find those dog eared photos in their albums. No child will be dumb enough to think mum really had a dog ear. They will be smart enough to know that those are just effects to make memories more fun. Thanks |

Afonjafucker:You're right to some extent but I'm still not convinced. You're simply a part of the 5% of Internet users who use it responsibly, what happens to the remaining 95%?.. At this point I can't classify my points as invalid or inconsequential. |

The world always worries about how technology would affect the next generation negatively. Well, my take is that technology will always keep coming and would radically transform our cultural anecdotes both negatively and positively. We worried about TV. We worried about computers. We worried about the internet. Now our new worry is social media. We even worried about how technology would cause massive job losses, but heck there are more jobs today than they were in the past. I think things would always balance out. The beauty for instance of documenting history as it happens is that facts can no longer be distorted. The facts are documented as they are happening not created after they've happened or conjured 100 years after like much of our myths & legends. The future generation in year 3050 is not going to feel like some guy called Oduduwa dropped from the sky in 2017. They'll simply check Nairalands history for 2017 and get the facts. |

Humanity are created with insatiable blood, when we do not have the means we craved for it,we never have contentment now that we have the way of keeping our history bad and good, the means keep us tracking without biased. Someone had to come up with story that our next generation would ask question, if those myth stories we have at hand today have the opportunities of this means, we won't have contradictory tales as histories .Whatever you wanted to keep as your posterity there's huge megabit for you to keep you going.. Let it be, is better than those days when story were rill out orally, we have no accurate information of our past. |

Sad but true. Social media has succeeded in ruining some people's lives and its still ruining lives continuously. Most users post things they aren't supposed to post on the social media and some users are so addicted to it that it doesn't make them focused on other things that would make them productive. May God help us |

Grrat Topic. But not well articulated. Judging from peoplea comments... they are missing the point i believe. Question really is what has being the impact of social media on humans level of societal decency and what is the impact for future generations. Also, is social media a civilization tool or a westernization machinery for disguised 2nd colonization? NaijaTechGuy: |

NaijaTechguy, don't worry about how the people from the future will view our present activities because the future will be so so so weird and insane, it will make this particular time we are living now seem completely normal and sane |

JeffreyJamez:And you want to compare Nigeria to those countries economically? You want to compare unemployment rates in Nigeria to theirs? Mind you, people in those countries know what they are doing and are self-disciplined. I was recently conducting Google keyword research, and I was surprised at the number of US searches for "How to overcome smartphone addiction". Now, those are self-disciplined people who know how to check themselves when they are taking things too far (and that's why many people in America are still not using smartphones). Are Nigerians like that? |
| Re: How Social Media Is Silently Ruining The Future by Nobody: 10:20am On May 14, 2017 |
NaijaTechGuy:Yeah, people are going to be begging to come back to this time after learning how to upload their consciousness into machines, or utilizing trans-humanisim, lol, they are simply going to want to feel more humane like us. thank God i was born in the middle of both our Violent war based past and the inescapable destructive future. |

webincomeplus:Self Deciplined people indeed. Have you heard about the "Sucide Challenge"?. You should Google it. I repeat Nigerians are learning when it comes to social media addiction. So save me that sermon of our social media addiction is why the country is the way it is. The country has been like this since 1960 before the rise of Social Media. |
