Can one be given work permit when one wants to go as a masters student?
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by sleekysoft(m): 1:35pm On May 16, 2017
Thanks boss
I followed your advised, finally spoke to my supervisor and he said the reason he didn't make desicion on my profile is due to the visa constrains for people from African especially Nigeria, since he has 2Africans in his group and it took almost a year for a Nigerian to get visa/study permit so he said I should write to grad studies and notify them of deferring my admission application till winter session, and he told me I one of the top students he is considering. He even said I should keep in touch and also be patient too.. lol
Thanks for your advice boss. I believe it will end in praise
Austinpee4:

Most times the graduate admission office are responsible in issuing out admission or not after recommendation from the academic department in which the applicant applied. So get intouch again with your supervisor and inform him/her that a decision has been made on your application and ask how he/she can come it. If it's likely, your admission MAY be revised.

Relax and send a professional email to your supervisor. Notifying him/her of the update.

Relax cos it will turn out well at the end.

@maziude and yemdogg and other members of the house should please help this guy
I think mech engineering will be easy since 2 years banking experience won't be easy to convince the vo. my little advice is this, if u can get a letter from the bank stating ur job with them was purely mechanical or related to it (though u will need to know the top ranks to be able to do such as it will involve getting u a new employment letter with mechanical engineering as job title )

Kindly assist guide me. I graduated with 2.1 mech engineering 2011 and have been working with the bank since 2014. I intend to run a masters programme in Canada. Is it convenient to switch to MBA because of my banking experience since i am in business development or continue M.eng in mech engineering?

Which will be an easier process for me?

Hello boss,

At this stage it is not convenient to switch from engineering to MBA especially when it is time to convince the VO. Your present years of experience is quite small to warrant a change to MBA. Atleast the VO will see it that way.

You have a 2.1 in Mech Eng, I would suggest you apply for a masters in engineering as this will eliminate any purpose of visit issue. Then when you are done and still feel the need for an MBA, you can go ahead.

My opinion.

Peace boss

Great news bro! As regarding the visa issues, it's quite unfortunate. Hopefully, your case will be different. Best regards.

Good day my people!!! Please I need information as regards the University of Manitoba. I applied for a masters (may/July) and according to the graduate assistant my application as been reviewed and found to be acceptable just that ive not been able to secure a supervisor since January. Now I checked my account and it says under review in graduate studies of which it has been under review in department since. I would like to know should I be expecting a reject due to the fact that I didn't receive an mail from a staff stating he wants to accept me and all that. Thanks for your replies

i thought form A is used when the account details of s school is specified? Dunno if am wrong tho but Fanshawe has no Account details. Have taken my admission letter and the page where d payment medium is instructed to Diamond,UBA and Eco Banks. all said they can't treat that. Am so confused

Kindly follow this simple procedures to get it sorted
From your admission letter/email sent by fanshawe college you will be directed to flywire payment platform...follow the link and register on flywire website with your student Id given to u by fanshawe college ,then specify how much in Canadian $ you are paying then flywire will give you equivalent of that In us $ to be paid from Nigeria. .this will come in form of attachment with flywire citi bank of USA wire transfer details....this printout should be taken to your bank and the transfer would be effected....you have to register with fly wire with your details from fanshawe college and amount you are paying....kindly follow this procedures and you Wil be sorted...all the best

Yes it is possible to switch to an MBA as you already have two years of business experience. To convince the VO about why you want to get an MBA, describe the role that both your mech eng education and banking experience played in shaping this desire.

In the SOP you can describe what business opportunities you see in Nigeria and how someone like you with both a mechanical engineering background and a business training would be ideal to pursue them.

Frame your application so that the VO sees both your engineering education and business experience as complementary to your career goals.

Edited: the other commenters are correct that it would be easier to convince the VO if you applied with a mechanical engineering master's admission. I feel the MBA one is doable too but you would have to do a lot of convincing.
