Nicely written and I daresay I kind of agree with him.

Why do Nigerians generally shy away from CS until it's too late? Nearly lost my foster daughter 2 weeks ago cos the husband and she were pussy footing on her getting CS. Luckily, the hospital called me, I got there right at the nick of time and slapped senses into the boys head.

Mother and daughter are alive, hearty and healthy. CS was successful.

keepingmum:
Pre-eclampsia is a VERY SERIOUS life threatening ailment that poses a significant risk to the life of mother and baby therefore should be attended to with urgency.
Keeping a patient with Pre-eclampsia is tantamount to manslaughter! !! Most definitely negligence and in my world, you will not only loose your medical licence to practice you ll also be looking at a referral to the CPS for criminal charges
Maternal mortality is very high in Nigeria and a large contributing factor is negligence and the itk/inability to listen to patients by doctors/nurses as well as the ability to learn from mistakes AND the stupid risks that doctors often take with patients lives

The first thing a medic would do the moment an hypotensive woman in labour is brought into their ward is to get the baby out ASAP. Are you saying that the doctors wouldn't have suggested a ceasarian section to be carried out on the deceased the moment she was brought in? Why did it take the husband four days before agreeing to do a C-section? This is a specialist hospital we are talking about, even quacks should know how dicy the situation is.

The main quarrel I have with your article is the massive dose of speculation and conjecture.

True, you attempt to reconstruct events based on publicly available evidence, but in a case like this simply reading the patients case notes will set the record straight on many issues such as the date and time of presentation, condition of patient at presentation, admission diagnosis, management plan, treatments given, course of illness, quality of intervention and care etc.
These are critical bits of information required to piece together a true narrative of events with an accompanying timeline.
In the absence of verified medical records a professional should not make pronouncements.

I am afraid that conjecture is not acceptable. You have succeeded in guiding some of your less perceptive readers to a conclusion reached without solid evidence.

My second point of disaffection is that your essay is too long to sustain the average readers interest and attention.

On these grounds I must reject your submission.

Thanks OP for this defence. It's disheartening that Health workers and Police are the two most criticized in the country yet they remain the only functional unit. God bless them all.

Thanks OP. I remember writing this same thing and I got crucified for it.

Birth spacing was a likely problem and I said the best body to confirm or exonerate the Drs for negligence was the Medical Council not some nairaland quacks

Big ups to the writer.

I am no doctor but i have cared for a sick family for long before death.

People can become very sentimental when a loved one dies and then try to blame everyone else including the medical personal involved in the treatment of the patient for the death.

When i saw the story, i concluded that it was not 100% the case of what really happened.

We need to be more understanding even when we lose our loved ones.

Guy, I take a bow. Ur write up was cool but I too do have some other short notes that one could add or subtract from urs. All in all, I do agree though with ur assessment as I see a fellow in the house. Nice one.

I also wonder how long the husband took before he returned from getting blood to see his wife had delivered. Did he go to the moon to get the said blood?
Nigerians have no regard for their doctors, period.

The OP's grammar does not change anything. The family of the deceased have presented their own case whether or not it was beclouded by emotions. It's left for the hospital to present their own side of the story so that we can weight both. The writer in am attempt to play the devil's advocate, without knowing the patient or the nitty gritty of what happened has decided what was wrong and invariably killed the young woman. You must be a vision seeing doctor. In your bid to protect your fellow incompetent doctors and yourself, since you're probably a quack, instead of doing your investigations, you want to use english and medical grammar to bamboozle us. I can see some people are already saying "It's true sha, the woman should have.." Taa, keep quiet. If you don't know what happened keep quiet.

GogetterMD,

Nice appraisal. Thanks for giving the heads up for innocent hard working doctors having a bad day. My question is, why will it take 4 days to prepare a woman with pre-eclampsia for surgery when you can wheel an eclamptic into theater, stabilize her there and bring out the baby?

If the husband refused to give consent within the period, why didnt he send them away?

Was likely is close to COULD be.

I didn't say DEFINITELY.

learn the difference. ...that's exactly why I said only the Medical Council is qualified to make that judgment.

God bless you Mr writer, I heard of a woman that was due to deliver in upth, the husband refused to sign that she must deliver like the HEBREW women. The doctors begged and begged he refused not until the woman was weak, that was when he signed for the cs to be carried out. Sadly she died after waiting to have a baby for 7 years and the only child of her mother.

Another instance is my Church lady, she had similar problem with this lady, the husband refused to take her to the clinic till 2am, when they arrived she is almost gone, the doctor ask the husband to sign and he did immediately and they saved her life and our faithful God saved the baby too.

Another lady refused to deliver through cs and died in the process. I wonder why people won't let the doctors do their job.

Many Nigerians see CS as taboo, government should create more awareness and enlighten the public about CS. Churches should also tell their members that delivery through CS is not a sin and stop the Hebrew women crap.

May her soul rest in the bosom of the Lord cry

am NO Doctor. But ur analysis is very logical. I myself like adopting that unpopular view and play the devils advocate, just to encourage pple to look at another perspective on issues.

By the way, if u were not a doctor, u wud have made a damn good journalist or writer

A critical analysis! We need to sharpen our analytical reasoning skills. We need to start being objective and throw away that subjectivity we display most times.

Will you keep kwayet Mr OP.

Rising to the defence of incompetent doctors with forced, snort cerebral writing aimed to put you on an authoritative pedestal.

I don't buy that.

You can bully the less educated into that line of believing you, hook, line and hogwash.

Its a known fact that the average Nigerian doctor is a killer.
I'm a victim and I'm still living with the after effects of 2005.

Trust them at your own peril.
