BIAFRA - Personal Insights by kaikubura(op): 10:33pm On May 22, 2017
Good day good people of Nigeria.

There has been physical war and social media unrest in times past on the this issue of BIAFRA. I looked at the whole scenarios and concluded that there was truly no need for all these brouhaha. Before I start to share my thoughts on this topic, let me state that I am from the Yoruba extraction and I do not have affiliation with the aforementioned group of agitators.

Firstly, let me take us down memory lane before the civil war, the existence of Nigeria came as result of British insensitivity to the issue of ethnicity and language. They merged everyone together on paper without actually doing the necessary field work and sample peoples' opinion. Just like other African nations, our problem as a nation started right afterwards. People of different beliefs, practices and mentality were forced to live together. Just like the proverbial cat and dog that can never live together. We were put in a mess that was a board game to the British. Even God almighty understand that if humans have the same language they can develop and achieve anything, take a cue from the Tower of Babel: also look at the powerful nations of the world, they have one language. In Africa, we have hundreds of languages joined together in a nation.

Secondly, when we look at the problem of Nigeria critically, it has always been tribal. When a president is from the south, the north will start agitation and vice versa for a northern president. There is this superiority mentality by some tribes over others that they must always rule. This, of course, will not go down well with other tribes. The issue of taking from the south to enrich the north without developing the south is a crime against those who own these resources.

Thirdly, I think the North have ruled this nation too much and they have caused so much harm to Nigeria than good. Look at their rate of development, it is very low and they are backwards in so many areas: healthcare, education etc. I can say boldly that they are the ones dragging Nigeria backwards.

Lastly, I think the only solution to this problem is dialogue. We are in an age were confrontation is no longer working; consultation does. We all know how many souls that have been wasted in this struggle and more will still be casualties if no action is taken.
Arresting or killing Nnamdi Kanu won't stop anything. Bear in mind that there is always a spirit behind every human action and as you know, spirits cannot be arrested nor killed. Infact, they multiply and spread like wildfire.

In conclusion, In as much as I support Buhari, I think he should invite Biafra for dialogue and negotiations. And let him call for referendum afterwards just like Britain did for Brexit and Ukraine for Crimea. We have nothing to lose if Biafra goes but I feel the north is just scared that they will be landlocked which is actually a nightmare for any country. As a matter of truth, I will prefer that Nigeria reset/split into Northern, Western and Eastern regions. Now, if any problem occurs after that, you will know that these are my people and they will find ways to amicably settle. If we say we will keep the cat and dog together to hope that one day they will be best of friends, then we are a joker.

OP...you have spoken well. The fact is if most yoruba viewed things like you, Fayose and Femi do, this rancor between Igbos and Yoruba won't be non existent. Do me a favor OP, scroll down, you will still find some yorubas, not even yorubas because we call them Afonjas who will even insult you and say you are pandering to IPOB like the guy above me, when what you have written is common sense and show you have conscience.
