Facts necessary to consider: Nigeria's national average for maize yield is 1.8 tons per hectare. Some local seed companies have seeds with yield potential of 5 to 7 tons per hectare. There are improved imported hybrid seeds that promise 5 to 10 tonnes, some as high as 15 tons per hectare for sweet corn. So all in all, the following factors determine your yield: 1. Seed, 2. Soil, 3. Agronomy practices, 4. Fertilizer application, 5. Weather, 6. Spacing
