why i like people like you is that u always think people are lying when u havent heard of such a case before, well i graduated in 2008. chemistry education. you dont know me and i had no reason to put up the story. i only did when someone made mention of why someone had to do a second undergraduate. well i did a second undergraduate. did exceptionally well and still doin fine till today. but saying i sud accept my grades and not blame the dept. i wont take that from u. if u feel am lying. contact me personally and İ will show u my transcript and u will have to come to the thread and apoligize cos u clearly said words u knew nothing about

You are so on point that guy is only trying to do itk...

I find this very hard to believe. Except you graduated in like year 2000-2003 o. That kind of thing can't happen in Unilag. What happened to CITS that your department HOD would have his or her own software. Oh so there's even a software to use, meaning you probably graduated between 2008 and this year. And CITS was functional then, post ume was even computer based. So in Education an HOD used software to spoil your CGPA and you didn't go to DSA or Senate or even the CITS. You're a joker sir. Sell another story. They changed 2:2 to third class for you and you're telling us cool story here.lol. Don't spoil Unilag's reputation o biko. People would start thinking HODs can make their own software to calculate GPA for them. HODs don't even record anything, the lecturers submit the result to the department and the department takes the results to the senate for approval. Mistakes like that can only come from CITS and it can't be that bad or else it'll affect the whole department in which case it'll be resolved. So accept your Grade and don't blame Software sir.
See if you haven't experienced sh!t you don't have to say people are lying n bla bla when they narrate their experiences. If it's smooth for you then u gotta ignore and move on. I put it to you that you're just being Mr itk..

I want to ask you about visa renewal in Nigeria.
I am on OPT and US visa will expire in 2weeks. I would have to visit Nigeria for renewal anytime I leave thE country. I have a Canadian visa and thinking of travelling to do it there next week so if anything happens, I can come back before the existing visa expires or should I go back to Naija and take the risk in case anything happens at the embassy in Nigeria

Do you have a job yet? If you do, you can do it anywhere of the two even if your visa expires before you leave here. Carry all your documents along though.

Slept in the office for my 7am appointment because its closer to the consulate. Got there in the rain by 5:30 or so. After all the checks, queued up and the VOs came to their desks. I wanted one other slim vo because he seemed cool and patient lol, but I was asked to meet the Chinese guy - I think he should be about 32. I wouldn't say he's strict, as the interview wasn't as scary as I feared. You just need to give him or any of them good responses..

VO: good morning
me: good morning
vo: passport, i20? so why are you going to St Cloud?
me: I'm going to st cloud state university to study for an MS degree in Applied Clinical Research.
vo: how many schools did you apply to?
me: I applied to 4 schools; the university of Rhode Island, Virginia Commonwealth university, the university of Texas medical branch and St cloud state university.
vo: why st cloud?
me: I chose to attend st cloud because the clinical research program focuses on medical device research which basically aligns with my interests and I will ( vo cuts in)
vo: did you take any tests?
me: I took the GRE and TOEFL.
vo: how was your score on the GRE?
me: it was fair enough, I got 149, 149, 3.5
vo: ooh that's impressive( inside my mind I was like that one na score, you need to come GRE thread for nairaland make you see what brothers and sisters are doing to the GRE, but I was happy to hear him exclaim that way though)
vo: you do correlation and validation studies where you work( he read it off my ds160)
what's it about?
me: I told him we do it on new medical equipments and diagnostic procedures to ensure optimal standards.
vo: what's the difference between correlation and clausation?
me; I told him I wasn't sure what the difference is ( I had not heard that word in the context he was asking so I chose to be honest instead of explaining rubbish)
vo: what will this degree do for you?
me: this program will equip me with the requisite skills to be able to perform proper and ethical biomedical research upon my return to Nigeria.
vo: what's your research topic?
me: I'll be working on biosystems neuromodulation(the guy is super fast with asking questions and typing)
vo: do you have any scholarship ( looks at i20 for less than a second)?
me: no, I do not.
vo: OK, enjoy your time at st cloud.
me: thank you.
Passed i20 back with white form and said to pick up passport in three days.
Thanks to God and everyone on here for all your help. Walspring, Mekurexx, for assisting to pay fees from WES evaluation through application circle, I remain grateful. And to a kind heart Kene for adding his money to complete my sevis and pay in less than 48 hours to my interview- after my bossom friend( not from nairaland) squandered the first money I sent to him for sevis, may God bless you. Goodluck to everyone.

Exactly, anything is possible in Nigeria. Especially in Naija Universities. I remember when I was in my 100 level, my GPA was 4.50, but the game changed when I was in 200 level lol, they pack D, E, F (Long story). Now am in my 300 level my GPA has dropped drastically although not bad (3.47) for some who was once on top, it is bad. I know what happened but was discouraged by my friends to let it go (because If I push it, I might not graduate with my set).

But when am explaining what happened to people they see it as nothing because they are not the one experiencing it.

In fact, Nigeria schools knows how to kill someone's destiny, I vividly remember when I was in secondary school (S.S 1) was supposed to major in science after my S.S 1 but I made more A's and B's in Art subjects than Sciences and that's how I was forced to go to Art class (I can't do anything because I was barely 12 years) and that's how my dream to study Computer Science died (working on switching to Computer Science).
LagosismyHome:

The Nigeria that me I know oo..anything is possible even stranger story has been told. Your experience might not be the norm yes but there are so many experience heard outside of the norm as well in Naija Uni settings.

Until it happens to you it easy to dismiss ...... then when it does you say Ahhhh anything is really possible for this our jungle..... Then or As we say it is well and we carry on

to those who care to know, UNILAG is a terrible school, and i cannot even advice my enemy to go to that school, but if in 4/5 years, 8 or 10 semesters, more than 50 courses, and over 180 course units; you feel that the school is in any way responsible for all your academic misfortune in that many areas, then there is something definitely wrong somewhere. How academically sound are you....if you are unsure of finances the easiest way is to aim for an inital scholarship and then maintain it all 4 years..... there are several full ride but with free money. It is competitive and your grades have to justify it

How was your waec and s1 to 3 grades ?... if ok then maybe you take the SAT . Study very well and use a good score to boost your package and apply to schools with full ride scholarship for international student

[quote author=EZEIGBO1OFIMO post=56916232] As much as I do not like my school, UNILAG, I just don't want to begin to abuse your destiny this morning, abi you think adamawa State University and Unilag can reside under your foolishness canopy. That idiot is lying, CGPA matters in Unilag is never under the discretion of the HOD, it is between, you, the lecturer, Senate, and CITS. I performed poorly in UNILAG and I accept my bad grades.
I've actually seen this happen, but it was actually the fault of the student, he registered for a course and thought he removed it and consequently didn't show up for the exam, when results came out he had an F, even though it was his fault he went to CITS to resolve the issue and it was actually cancelled from his results, It could have happened o, but you should have taken it up and fought hard for your result. I still find it hard to believe your HOD had a software for calculating results by himself( maybe that was popular in your time)... before results are submitted to the senate we are even asked to crosscheck to make sure there aren't any inconsistencies. As far as you've moved in from it, it is well.

I don't know about the University but Connecticut ranked 4th in the best state with good education and ranked 12 on Overall Best States Ranking https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings to me before I chose any school I consider a lot of things you can also check schools in New Hampshire, Washington (abeg no be Washinton D.C o), Iowa and Maryland. You can get good schools (cheap) with funding in those areas I mentioned. Just dig well. Also check out the University of Minnesota Duluth, menh that school tight (connection) sha companies come to hire most of them before graduation.

me; I told him I wasn't sure what the difference is ( I had not heard that word in the context he was asking so I chose to be honest instead of explaining rubbish)
vo: what will this degree do for you?
me: this program will equip me with the requisite skills to be able to perform proper and ethical biomedical research upon my return to Nigeria.
vo: what's your research topic?
me: I'll be working on biosystems neuromodulation(the guy is super fast with asking questions and typing)
vo: do you have any scholarship ( looks at i20 for less than a second)?
me: no, I do not.
vo: OK, enjoy your time at st cloud.
me: thank you.

Congrats!
