Students of the University of Ibadan this morning began protest gainst the management of the institution over what some of them described as insensitivity of the management .

Many students I spoke to complained of their inability to secure ID cards which are required to enter exam halls ( exams were to begin this week but now postponed as a result of the protest. Others also complained over inability to use hot plates for cooking.

No offense to the students, but I suspect the hot plate ban is due to

1. They being potential fire hazards

2.To reduce the university's light bills.

Democracy day
Re: University Of Ibadan Students Protest Against Management Amid Heavy Security by SUCCESSUCHE: 2:43pm On May 29, 2017
Today is Democracy day, a day a commissioner of police in Oyo State promised to kill protesting UI students because he feels he has the power to control his trigger happy men in mourning clothes to fire at innocent students exhibiting their fundamental human right , the same day the Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan Prof Olayinka Abel shut down the University because he refused to give students what they paid for and believes the best way to get rid of them is to send them home. University of Ibadan boast to be amongst the best in the world yet, one of her faculties was denied accreditation, a faculty that is has existed over 30years.
I have seen lecturers who were overworked for peanuts as take home, yet these lecturers never complain, I have seen students who have been victimized for airing their views, yet we claim to be Democratic, as it is everywhere we now have elitist workers who looked down on other workers in the University community, worse than our political environment, yet we hypocritically shout "Democracy". My message to the oppressors is simple, continue your act, but remember one day you will be too weak to be in charge, and that day is near

You never see these problems in western and oriental nations. Blacks are unable to run successful countries. Nigeria was receiving oil revenue for over 40years, and there is nothing to show for it!

Read about the resource curse.....and you will see why having oil money does not equal development.

Oh, and developed countries too have student protests

Yeah, that's bullshit.

They have student protests, but they don't have students protesting because they don't receive basic services.

Gulf states

1.Have small populations. UAE produces about the same amount of oil that Nigeria produces, for a population less than 10 million. Saudi Arabia is the largest producer of oil and has 11 million.

2.Those gulf states are sweating well well with the fall in oil price. Saudi Arabia has lost 150 bn $ since 2014.
