More Hard Times Await Nigerians As Senate Recommends Increase In Fuel Prices

Abuja – In spite of the biting hardship Nigerians are going through, more miseries are set to be inflicted on them through impending fuel price increase.

The proposed increase of N5 per litre on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise called petrol and as well as on diesel, was made by the Senate Committee on Works in its final report on a Bill titled “The National Road Fund (Est, etc) Bill, 2017 (SB 21)”.

The import of the proposed fuel levy charge is that, end users (motorists) will pay N5 tax on every litre of fuel bought at any fuel station.

The Senate Committee on Works under the leadership of Senator Kabiru Gaya in the report, also advocated for the implementation of a special 0.5 percent levy on commercial vehicles passengers fares, all in a bid to raise money to pay for road constructions and maintenance.

The Bill which is part of the 11 economic reform Bills initiated by the Senator Bukola Saraki led leadership of the Senate, as contribution to economic recovery by the country, has already been endorsed by the House of Representatives.

Details later…

I pray suffering and hardship visit them. Sickness that will bedrid them with no cure money can buy be their portion.

The governors stealing and withholding worker's salaries are not being forced to pay. Crime rate is already on the high side, yet these shameless and useless bunch of people want to increase price of fuel?sad

Senate does not have such power, they can only advice, they cannot hike fuel price, only the executives through PPPRA does.

Let the executive be honest and not hang its heartlessness on the senate.

When will these bloody crooks recommend a cut in their pay as palliative measure to bring down the cost of running government?

These breed of politicians seemed to have made a deal with the devil to dispatch helpless citizens to their early graves.

We have no choice...

Should have removed fuel subsidy in 2012....but no, cheap fuel price was better than sensible economic decisions.

Thing is....so long as we keep on importing fuel to meet our needs....expect price increases.

And so long as oil stays at $50 ......that means no cash for subsidies....expect price increases.

We need more refineries....and better public transport.

Sick people

I wish I know the name of the chairman of that committee.

Whilst it is necessary to have a special funds for roads projects, its also necessary to note issues as

1) Corruption: that endemic corruptive nature of Nigerians. Who manages the funds? How can we ensure its judiciously used?
2) Why can't the Senate urge the CBN to reduce the exchange rate for fuel importers, thereby that 5 naira would not be noticed by Nigerians?. Here it is. Fuel importers get Dollars at 305 naira. CBN can reduce the exchange rate for fuel importers by N5 hence the price drops to 140, whilst the 5naira on top goes for the road

Note that Ambode that is fixes all the roads in Lagos State and touching every councils isn't doing so by performing magic.

Every month, he deducts 70% from the federal allocations to each of the 20LGA. Many people wouldn't know this

The policemen stationed at strategic locations in Lagos gets supported via the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. Many people contribute to these funds, whilst its used to service the policemen on special duties.

We can't fix all roads, without special funds
