Got my zartech cobb 700 order today.they are 51 in the carton.i also ordered fo 12 local turkeys
Brooding house was ready before their arrival.i noticed some greenish poo in the delivery carton and in the brooding house which the supplier said it's normal(hope so too).
Some of the broilers(almost half) have touches of black on them.im seeing that for the first time on broilers.let see how they turn out in 2 weeks.
See pic....

I'm seeing them for the first time too, broiler with black spots.Let the experts on nairaland talk, somebody must have seen it before OR wait for the 2 weeks and repost their pics.
With the little I know some hatcheries/agent do mix up birds by mistake or intentional.

Update on my backyard birds -
In 1 week of organic treat, birds are doing very well.
The broilers have gained like 300-400g.No signs of sickness in birds.i think I'm still going to do another organic week.i have been giving them fermented feed, aloe vera in water, dried pawpaw, bitter leaf and moringa in their feed. Also ginger, garlic, onion and honey mix in water.
Lost 1 of my broilers doc today due to stampede and another turkey that was supplied unhealthy.
Others are ok.

Today:
Broilers are 4 weeks old
Noilers are 5 weeks old
Foreign Turkeys are 4 weeks old
Lost 1 4wks old broiler today, I really don't know the cause of death but the poo was grey and semi solid.Another broiler with same problem has been at the sick bay since yesday.i have started antibiotics for the rest.

From the latest batch of 5 days old,I have lost one broiler and 2 turkeys.another turkey is in the sick bay.causes of death I really don't know but noticed some brown poo on the litter.others are still on antibiotics and vitamins.

Thought I could do another basically organic week but it's better I treat these symptoms I'm seeing so as not to lose more birds.

The new batch of 51 broilers and 12 turkeys is one week today.
Lost 1 broiler and 4 turkeys so far.learnt they died as a result of no enough heat in the brooding room.i was using lanterns which go of unexpectedly, now i use coal pot which is a lot better.will send pics tomorrow

My first time of producing feed from the mill.It is quite cheaper than buying bags in the market.
Produced 75kg of finisher @3300 per bag and 25kg of super starter @ 3600.saved like 3k.
I'm going to weigh chick tomorrow, feed them extensively for 1 week with the new feed and weigh them...I know we can't wait to see the result.

.....fingers crossed.

The formulated feed is too high in protein and not suitable for broilers.it resulted in wet litter as it makes them to drink lots of water which resulted in watery poo and hence wet litter.
Had to add some maize ofal to the feed to balance the protein.
Lost some birds though but all thanks to the organic stuffs I give the birds which has boosted their immune and resistance to diseasea
Birds are fine now, feeding right and well.
Many thanks to the genius on this platform

What is your feed formulation?
Henceforth,be sure you have a good formula before going to mill or better buy commercial feeds.
Re: my backyard poultry-broilers noilers turkeys by tasho105(m): 6:01pm On Jul 02, 2017
Update on my backyard:
Birds are doing very fine after a strong battle with wet litter which almost resulted in cossidiosis attack.
Their poop is now dry and ok.
Lost like 23 birds,now left with -
1st batch: 6 wks- 40 Fidan Broilers and 4 foreign Turkeys.
2nd batch: 2 wks-37 Cobb 700 and 4 Local Turkey.
Lost quite a number from the 2nd batch as they were attacked while still in brooding.
Just 2 birds were lost from 1st batch,I believe this is due to the organic stuffs they have been taking to build their immune system.
Lesson:
Newbies like me should try to avoid formulating feeds and if there's a need for it,use reputable feed mill.

Weighed birds yesterday as usual.
6 wks Broilers - 800g - 1.6kg.Although there are 2 chicks with 400g and 420g.

3 wks Broilers - 320g - 520g.This weight is quite low when compared to the weight of the 1st batch,at 3wks highest was 620g.The low weight is due to the cossidiosis attack they had at 1 week old caused by wet litter.

6wks ForeignTurkey - 500 - 800g
7 wks Noilers 500 - 740g

The adult local turkeys are doing fine too, killed 1 hen last week for BBQ.Expecting another 2 hens to start laying this week...

This is update on my backyard birds
