I began the transitioning process 13 months ago (precisely May 2016), and now about 80% of my relaxed hair is off. I like the new one growing out, though it's high-porosity hair and 4b I think. But I have serious issues with my edges (part of the reasons why I decided to go natural). My front/edges are really bad, scanty and falls off easily, I can't even pack my hair all back, it kinda gives me a bald woman's look, I keep packing or making side parts. I've tried pure Indian hemp powder and also Jamaican black castor oil, but no meaningful results yet. I need advice on what to do, I want to be more confident with my natural hair, I want full hair on every part of my head. thanks.

you can use onions and garlic juice and add tea tree oil apply to d bald area

Awww it's probably still because of the relaxer that you a were using. You have to be extremely patient for you to see results and LEAVE your edges alone. I'm talking about tight hairstyles. I remember Nigerian hairdressers loooove pulling that part, kindly tell them to leave it alone, it's not supposed to hurt at all. Otherwise you'd be pulling it out, especially if you are using attachments.

The "science" behind it is pretty easy. Imagine they took a tiny part to plait and then add extensions which is 3x of what your edges are. It's definitely going to weigh it down, now imagine the pulling. It's your hair they are pulling plus the weight which will definitely cause breakage.

Also avoid using too much gel or no gel around your edges and if you do make sure it has no alcohol in it. Alcohol as you can imagine dries the hair.

Wear a satin bonnet/scarf before you sleep. There's no point putting oil on your edges, just to rub it off on your pillow. The bonnet/scarf has to be satin/silk because that way no moisture is going to escape. Using a normal cloth will just lead to the oil being rubbed off on it.

Jamaican black castor oil is an average penetrating oil It does NOT penetrate the hair shaft as good as coconut oil or olive oil. Don't just put it on your edges, massage it in. That way you'll be stimulating hair growth.

It's probably going to take you months to grow out but you just have to be patient. It seems relaxer did you bad

Sooo I've been transitioning for almost 9 months now and I'm more than ready to cut off my relaxed ends. My friend told me i gat use hair scissors if not, my ends will be damaged...The thing is i can't find this particular scissors in the market and the barbers/hairdressers around don't even have it...I'm really worried now cos I've come too far to spoil the whole thing. I dunno, Can i use a normal scissors? or does it have to be the hair scissors my friend mentioned?. I'll appreciate any help on this. Thanksss

I would not risk using a normal scissors because the chances are high that the ends are going to split. Do you know how a hair scissors looks like? I'm sure you've seen it before and maybe hairdressers are using it too but just for not realise it's a hair scissors. You can order it online if necessary

Since you're just going to be doing your chop, it's best to use hair scissors. But you can also use normal scissors. In either case, get someone you trust to do it for you.

I know you are ethopian and I know you guys hair types differ a lot. So if yours is kinky you can try aloe vera gel or flaxseed gel or Eco styler gel. If it's wavy, I think you can too but don't use much

yes, my hair is kinda long and weavy. Av went to a beauty salon to make it frizzy, 3 people tried but still couldn't make it happen

Maybe you could try the curly method which involves using non sulphate products and diffusing your hair with a hooded dryer

I've finally found a sisterlocks consultant to do my sisterlocks and will be getting them done next week. According to her, it'll take 2 days to complete. I can't believe I'm about to say goodbye to my loose natural hair . Why am I feeling sad now? . I'm looking forward to it, tho. *Cries and blows nose*.

Wow I didn't know you could donate African hair or dreadlocs.
My friends wanted to donate too, we went to their website and it was written there that they don't accept afros/dreadlocs.

And daaaaamn waist length is pretty long. I think your locs will be longer anyways because your hair will be stretched. So you might have longer hair than you thought, to begin with

It's a love and hate relationship. I try to do twist outs or bantu knots so the two different textures won't be visible. But then my natural hair is like "yay let's go" and will come out really good but my relaxed hair is like "uhn uhn, no way, not happening, we have to make her look like a mad woman "
