Haha, why is it causing confusion? Performance based promotion is a thing all over the world and I don't see a reason why it should cause problems for us here in Nigeria.

So office politics also plays out in the civil service? I thought it was only in private companies that such things happen. The men who made the breakthrough went the extra mile: they are deserving of whatever reward, accolade, promotion etc. that is showered upon them.

Leveling up with their former seniors is not a problem here. If I were the IGP, I would advise the seniors who are averse to a possible leveling up to put in more work and achieve high profile results in order to get performance based promotion, and put all this nonsense talk of leveling up and hierarchy to rest.

Seniors, no fuc..ks given -- sorry.

There are many ways to reward competence, Promotion isn't the only way. They should be given the NPM (Nigerian Police Medal) or something else.

Shey there was a bounty of N30mil on Evans head? They should just share the money to the officers involved and forget promotion.

I understand what their colleagues are grunting about, it wouldn't be fair to the system in all honesty. There should be reward for hard work but double promotion shouldn't be it. Give them the bounty so there will be peace, b4 person put bullet for another person skul come talk say na accidental discharge.

Please, can you tell me more about this? I was of the assumption it was a clean investigation, you know, everything done by the books. In which instances did they kill people? I mean the investigating officers.

since i was born now i am old, I have never seen a force as useless as the Nigeria police force!!! Does it mean if a rank and file police officer participates in the arrest of 10 Evans in a year, he/she will be promoted to the rank of the IGP in each of the arrest? are they not bein paid for the job...

Our police are simply silly.. they like broadcasting everything without investigation.. From the first day they arrested his boys years ago, catching him was easy..

But what do we normally do here? we parade criminals caught same day.. sieze their phones.. show them to the world... Do you think Evans will ever call?

Imagine... rejoicing for catching a kidnapper? shameful.

To be promoted in the police force, you must have stayed 6 months in your present rank. Abba Kyari was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police in January. Few months later he caught 'Vampire' and the IGP ordered the promotion of all officers involved. He was not promoted, since he was not up to six months in his rank of ACP. Now he has caught Evans, and the IGP has ordered another promotion of officers involved. I'm sure, he will would fight tooth and nail to get this one, since he is six month in his ACP rank already. (Jan-June). If he gets it, he will be a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) which is the rank before commissioner of police. His superiors are scared since he is meeting up with them in rank and might soon pass them, so they are doing all they can to stop the promotion. Haha. He has strong backing of the IGP though, so he might prevail. But at the end, the Police Service Commission has the final say. The IGP can only recommend senior officers for promotion, while the Police Service Commission approves. Finally, the IGP shouldn't be ordering promotions every time a criminal is apprehended. If it continues that way, it will destabilise the force and cause envy and enemity. He should introduce Police medal of honour as it is done in the US. My 2 cents!
