Freda sighed twice before proceeding to knock on the door. Her heart began to beat faster when she heard Vero's voice. Still as angelic as ever.

But before she opened the door, she heard something that looked like a little argument. She could hear Diego's voice but couldnt deduce what they were saying.

God help me. How do i go about this without causing trouble? Lord help my soul. She prayed inwardly.

Then the door opened.

The anger initially on Vero's face instantly turned to shock, then anger, confusion, then back to anger 'what are you doing here?' Her voice was stern and angry.

'hi...'

'who's at the door?' Diego showed up behind her. His eyes quickly lit 'Freda! What a pleasant surprise'

A movement from inside the house caught her attention. She squinted her eyes and from the widely opened door, she could see someone who unmistakenly looked like Mia racing up the stairs taking it two...or was it three at a time.

She was tempted to scream. Was it Mia? Was it really Mia? No, it couldnt be. Her eyes were definitely playing tricks on her.

'can i come in?' She asked, a knot forming in her throat.

Diego opened his mouth to speak but Vero beat him to it 'for what? What are you even doing here? Let me guess, you came for Kelly right?'

Freda stared at her.

'just go to the airport and book your flight back to Nigeria because you came for a lost cause. Kelly isnt going back with you and if you dont mind, we were tending to more important issues inside before you sickly showed up at our door. Goodbye' She shoved her husband backwards and shut the door.

She could hear another scuffle inside.

'give me the keys Veronica. Why did you shut her out?'

'because she isnt needed here! Now where's that silly mistress of yours? Where did she go?'

'i have told you she isnt my....wait a minute, where did she really go?'

'i swear if anything goes wrong in this house i'll hold you responsible for bringing in your mistress whom you fucking claim is a bloody stranger into this house, watch me. Idiot'

Freda couldnt discern what was happening inside but what she knew was that she wasnt leaving without her granddaughter. She hit the door hard with her fist.

No answer. Not even a single noise.

She hit it harder. Same quietness.

She pulled off her three inch red shoe and hit it against the door, and when there was still no answer, she fell to the floor tired and exhausted.

'uhm....' Mia didnt know what her daughter was talking about but in order to save time, she had to do what she had to 'yes'

'thanks for coming for me and Junior. You're an angel. Did you say you're my biological mother?' The girl grinned toothily.

'yes. But...i came here for you and not Junior'

Her smile quickly faded 'why will you take me away and leave Junior here ma?'

'because....' She heard the sound of footsteps climbing the stairs 'okay fine, we're taking Junior. Where's his room?'

'the next room'

'okay. Lets go get him' She had her plans. Once she booked another flight back to Nigeria, she was going to abandon the child at the airport. She wasnt going to take in a child that wasnt hers. Maybe then she would be able to cook up a nice story to tell about how he got missing.

Kelly quickly grabbed her hand and grinned and just when they were about opening the door, they heard voices.

DIEGO: Where did she really go? Is she a thief? Hope nothing's happened to the kids?

VERO: Just be lest assured that if anything goes wrong in this house i'll hold you responsible and report you to the police for being an accomplice to a criminal because you were the one who brought that slut into this house!

DIEGO: Just watch your tongue Veronica. How many times will i explain to you that that girl is just a stranger who showed up at the door and i just had to let in?

VERO: Because you had plans to screw her. Lets just check Kelly's room. Hope she's alright

Mia's heart skipped a beat. She and Kelly exchanged glances of confusion. Then she quickly devised a plan.

Vero knocked on the door 'Kelly? Are you in there Kelly?'

'yes mum. Any problem?' Kelly answered from inside and she unconciously let out a sigh. She might have developed hatred for the girl overnight but she still didnt want anything bad happening to the girl under her nose. Besides she had a feeling that Freda had a hand in this stranger showing up in their house and getting missing. The girl shared a little resemblance to Freda and she looked a bit familiar but she couldnt place her fingers on it.

'open the door sweetheart' Her husband said behind her.

'the door is open'

Vero pushed the door open and peeped in. She found Kelly sitting on her bed with a novel on her laps 'is anything the problem?'

'not really. Just stay in your room and do not come out until we asked you to okay? Are you listening to me?' Vero asked eyeing her.

'yes mum'

'dont mum me. I'm not your mother' She left the room.

'just remain here sweetheart. I'll get you chocolates on my out' Diego walked to her and placed a kiss on her forehead. Then he left the room.

He met his wife in Junior's room. He was sleeping soundly.

She turned to him 'something bad is happening here. Call the police' She said panting.

'i dont understand. Maybe...maybe the girl took the back door'

'exactly!' She snapped her fingers 'lock the back door because that might be her next escape. I perceived her perfume just when i was coming out from Kelly's room maybe she was there but out now. The doors should be firmly locked until the police arrives'

Diego sighed tiredly 'Veronica stop this nonsense. Maybe the girl already left. I dont know what you're talking about but let it be. The kids are okay. Just get me something to eat, i'm already famished with out little search. And by the way, Freda was knocking at the door. I dont understand why you dont wanna talk to your friend'

'how is that your business?!' She snapped 'if you wont call the police, i will. And there's no food for you until we know where that crazy mistress of yours is hiding'

'thats a very funny and stupid thing to say Vero'

'no need' Mia said stretching herself after squatting in the wardrobe for minutes 'i'll get you new set of clothes' But when she thought about the weight of her pocket, they were going to get something to eat and book two flights. And if they dont meet up, they might just spend the night in a hotel. Taxi fees and all that. She wouldnt have spare to get her daughter new clothes except she went back to Nigeria and looked for money.

'just pack a little. You'll be needing them'

Kelly nodded and started packing. Then she looked up at Mia 'y'know, i dont actually trust you, neither do i believe you're my mum. I just wanna get out of this house to my mum's hostility. And i dont care if you're kidnapping me or gonna hurt me, i just wanna get out of here first'

Mia broke into a smile and hugged the little girl 'oh my baby girl. I promise not to hurt you and i'm not lying. I'm here for you and i'm gonna love you forever and treat you right'

'me and Junior?'

Mia groaned inwardly 'yes. You and Junior'

She snorted within. There was no way she was going to care for a child that wasnt hers.
