A husband and wife have landed in serious trouble after they were found with a phone belonging to a woman who was kidnapped and murdered in Imo state.

The husband found with the mobile phone of 45-year-old Mrs. Amaka Okere, who was kidnapped and murdered in Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, said the phone was given to him by his wife.

According to Vanguard, the duo identified as Emeka Adibe his wife, Monica were paraded by the Imo State Police Command in Owerri, on Tuesday 26th June 2017. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, said:

“You will recall that on March 1, Mrs Amaka Okere, aged 45, of Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, was kidnapped and murdered.

“Investigations are in progress. Emeka Adibe and Monica Adibe were arrested on June 15 in Rivers State and the victim’s telephone handset recovered from them.” While confessing, Mrs Adibe said it was her twin sister’s husband who gave her the phone.

Monica said:

“I am a native of Arochukwu in Abia State; I am married with two kids. I went for a child dedication in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. “While preparing to return home, my sister’s husband gave me a phone. I did not know it was not his. When I returned home, my husband saw the phone, took it and started using it; the Police arrested him.

“I came to ask why he was arrested and the Police also arrested me.”

Her husband Mr. Emeka Adibe, said:

“I swear, I don’t know anything about the phone. It is my wife that brought it and the police saw it and arrested me. This phone has put me in trouble.”

Editor's Note:

Clearly, this couple maybe innocent of any crime and instead Nigeria Police will investigate and get to the root of the crime, they are parading the suspects already. This is just sending a message to the culprit to run away. These couple should have been kept secret until investigation is over.

What kind of policing is this abeg?

This is the reason why most federal judges hate police with passion. They will never do their work diligently, instead they will rush and parade suspects unnecessarily. And a good lawyer will just appear in court and bust their cases wide upon. That is why they loose a lot of case. Same thing with EFCC.

We dont have a police force determined to vindicate the innocent and ensure that true justice is served. The police should know our society well, have a rational discretion even when they meet the most obvious suspects.
we are living in an upside-down country.

A very key material exhibit was found on them. As far as the police are concerned, they are the real suspects.
Unfortunately, kidnapping and murder are not bailable.
They should just confess all they knew to the police.
They might get lucky and the real kidnappers would be caught.
Why did the police not parade those they confessed that gave them the phone.
I am not discharging them though, but police use media parade of suspects as blackmail tools to extort.

The law courts convict criminals always in every state, yet non of them is publicized by the police.
The SSS crack a lot of high profile criminal cases and arrest dangerous criminals, yet they don't make noise about it, not to talk of posing and snapping pictures with them.

Look at the way they forced them to sit on the grass, what if them are innocent?

Quite unfortunate. Even buying a second hand phone can be dangerous.

Exactly right. I still see their reasons and what happened to be through. The police should have gone to get the real person that they claimed gave them the fone b4 parading them as criminals. Let them do their job in order to get to the source of the crime in order to prosecute the case and get conviction.

NIGERIAN POLICE ARE BUNCH OF ILLITERATES. TO THEM THEY HAVE SOLVED THE KIDNAP CASE. THE WOMAN MENTIONED HER SISTER'S HUSBAND AND THE POLICE FEEL HIS ARREST IS NOT NECESSARY

Investigation in Nigeria is only for the Rich & Powerful
Or when the obvious chaos is viral.

Please let us avoid buying Phones or items from any source we see, because even her sister's husband must have bought it from such illegal second hand guys (worse case scenario, those without shops).

May God vindicate these innocent couples.

Nigeria Police(Force).
Only in Nigeria the police a force. All they know is parade suspect or even kill and put guns or even machetes as exhibit.

No wonder some guys who were caught sometimes last week in a bar in Obio/Akpor,Rivers State refused to be paraded.
Police parade suspects who are most times innocent of the crime to score cheap praises and rank from their superiors.

Meanwhile, avoid buying used(London) phones because 98% of those phones are stolen or a product of violent crime

Hmm. That's naija police for you. But they still have a few good eggs though.

This couple could just be innocent, yet their pictures are already all over the internet which their grandchildren will still meet.

Anyway, sometimes even the most diligent among us fall into this kind of trouble.

As for me, I have resolved never to buy anything second hand, not even phones. And if it has to be cars, then due diligence must be done.
Bro they should just consider this as a blessing in disguise. Once they are released they should simply get a competent lawyer. This could be their meal ticket out of poverty grin

when it boils down to ;they said, you said, dem say, then the person caught is the culprit.
Not saying the couple participated in the kidnapp/murder, but accessory to the fact is starring them in face.

all they need to do is confirm they were given the phone by a family member, every other thing is junk if this is proven kapish.

How would you even prove they were accessories to start with - this whole case lies on them proven they were given the phone, look any court will throw this out due to lack of evidence, the onus is on NPF to prove otherwise

awoof dey run belle.

90% of uk used phones are naija stolen

nigerians need to learn to live within their pockets where phones are concerned

i have had my phones stolen from me in traffic, and the same phone later showed up on android device manager with an o2 id.

stop buying dodgy phones,or be prepared to face the consequences.

the same thing happened some years back in the cynthia okusogu case. someone bought her blackberry. and this person was a 'buisnessman'. the businessman was arrested, and he linked the police to the seller

anyway, the onus is on them to explain just how they got the phone.

my husband gave it to me does not wash. who gave it to the husband? did he buy it? where is his receipt?

it is not particularly surprising anyway - nigerians are thoroughly unprofessional in so many things.

killng, molesting and robbing kidnap victims after collecting ransom.

i have 0 sympathy and fuc-ks to give

to the rest of you there - stop looking for expensive phones on the cheap. live within your means. it is not by force to have s7 or s8.

understand that someone may have been maimed or murdered for that 'cheap' phone.
